We are trying to do about an hour per day to help him (5 yo) keep up with reading/writing. He has writing workbooks, some of those sounds/matching flash cards, the BOB books, etc. Neither of us are teachers so it can be a little challenging.

I don’t really feel like it’s a big deal yet.

this is kind of where I am at. from what Ive read at their age 1-2 hrs a day is about as much as you should be doing and I think weve been doing that for the most part. been meaning to look into the abc mouse thing. I think my wife is just scared our daughter is going to show up in kindergarten with a bucket on her head and eating paste.

We've done the same with our 3.5 year old. Got him doing some coloring and art thinga. Alphabet stuff, lots of playdough and Legos. That's pretty much the extent. I have him helping me fix things and do stuff around the yard that seems productive. 30-60 mins of TV tops per day.

He had bladder surgery a month ago so he was going to be out of school during this time anyway.

He did poop his pants for some unknown reason last week. He was a dream to potty train so we don't know what happened. It totally freaked him out and I told him I've pooped my pants before to make him feel better.

Now he's been telling all the grandparents how daddy poops his pants

yes i posted it a few pages back. we paid full for April ($1900 for two kids) but since then the daycare has furloughed their entire staff so they can collect unemployment and saying it's $250 a month to hold your spot but have asked us to pay extra if we can.

Most parents didn't pay the full tuition for April so I feel like I have given enough. (They closed 3rd week in march i think) I am doing the $250 (Which i am fine with) until they open back up.

If my daughter likes Goofy I will feel like a failure as a father.

She's too young to have allegiances at this point and just likes the songs, but you're 100% right that Goofy is a tremendous piece of shit who Mickey should cut out of his life.

It's gross how much screen time we are giving our daughter.

this morning i was thinking "damn this has been a pretty laid back morning" then i realized Snakes Jr had been watching Paw Patrol for 2 straight hours.

He has always been good about playing by himself but not for hours at a time.

Haha my daughter is ADHD af and probably a little younger than yours. Our version of screentime is letting her bang on every button on the iPad.

She's taken a lot of terrible pictures, has clicked on just about every youtube video, and only called 911 once.

It’s really tough not to over do screen time right now. I feel bad because it has gone up a ton.

I’m sure others kids do this too but my kid loves to dunk her hand into stuff with insane speed and accuracy. For bed time when we are putting her butt paste on if you lose your focus for a second she’ll dunk her whole hand in the tub and exclaim, “sticky hands”. That one isn’t too bad and is pretty funny. However, I was painting this weekend on the deck with her playing out there too,I had the paint up on a table and thought I had control of the situation. I looked away for one second and looked back in time to watch her dunk her entire hand and half her arm in the gallon of paint. I was pretty quick with my reaction and minimized the mess mostly but damn that was almost disastrous.

Yeah. I was doing the work sheets they sent home, but he would get so board with them. I spend half the lesson time with him working on ABC mouse as I'm not got at teaching basics, then the other half we spend working and reading through a Dick and Jane book to develop his reading skills.

we don't have an ipad for the kids so we call "screen time" just sitting on the couch watching TV. if we are out in public for an extended period of time and he's going nuts we will let him use our iphone to watch something on netflix.

FYI google how to use "guided access" on ipad or iphones. it will save a lot of trouble when your little one is watching something. Just basically disables the entire screen while they are holding it so they can't turn off the app or call anybody or whatever.

I’m here for the moral support with a 6 year old, 2.5 year old and a 9 month old with both of us working full time from home.

At least our daycare, through my wife’s work, is not charging us the 3,500 in tuition I pay for the two little ones each month.

    Our current morning routine...

7am - kids wake up, we go downstairs and I turn tv on, I go back upstairs to sleep/try to get laid
8am - I turn on my laptop to ‘work’, make breakfast for everyone, tv still on
9am - wife wakes up, tv still on
10am - I turn tv off and kids go outside

ABC Mouse has been good for our 3 y/o. Amazon Free Time is good with their digital books and things.

We try to play outside as much as possible but he hasn't be as interested lately. It's also over 90 degrees out. Thinking of getting one of those inflatable water slides our neighbors and my boss recently bought.

Pinterest has a TON of art/science projects for pre-K if you want to go down that route. My wife has done a really good job with those.

So our 3.25 y/o has been generally happy at home. We are trying our best to never be mad at him, even if he deserves it, because without any other outlet like school/daycare - it'd be hard for him to feel like we're mad at him and he's stuck here without even other family visiting.

Anyway- something I find curious is he doesn't actually ask to go anywhere. Playgrounds, sporting events, science center (we have annual passes), seeing animals.....just any of the family activities we were doing literally every weekend. I can't remember him asking once in 5 weeks to go anywhere. Not sure what to think about it. But he seems happy playing outside and launching and watching Bluey or whatever else.

Also getting him into the PS4 a little bit with LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.
