I think the idea that it's engineered is ludicrous. This sort of virus is always possible and indeed was predicted by a ton of experts. Nature is just fine at killing humans without introducing bio terrorism into the equation.
It seems unlikely that it would be an intentional release, but if it were from the lab and not the wet markets, it could be unintentional release from the lab itself or an accident during collection.
This being human engineered might hold more weight if this exact same sort of thing hadn't killed millions of people dozens of different times in human history. 2020 isn't special. We're really good at medicine but mother nature is really good at killing humans.

No I think it probably occurred sui generis, but there’s obviously a possibility, however remote, that it could have come from a confirmed virology lab known to be studying Coronaviruses that doesn’t involve intentional malfeasance. It wouldn’t even implicate bioengineering—the researchers could have simply been collecting samples from bats and gotten bit, mishandled a sample, inadvertently picked up some guano that wasn’t cleaned off, etc...
It's insane. Not only are they killing their own people and submarining their own economy for months, they're killing the economies of the countries that buy billions of dollars of the stuff they manufacture. Doesn't make any sense.

I didn’t say I believe it (in fact I said exactly the opposite), I just said that the lab conspiracy theory wouldn’t a priori require the Chinese to release it intentionally or that it be engineered.

Occam's Razor....scientists have been predicting the big one for years, this is entirely plausible without introducing additional complexity. While yes, we can't be metaphysically certain its not engineered, it doesn't need to be to be realistic

France has already said they're reopening schools May 11th, but restaurants and bars would remain closed. Pretty wild, was listening to the BBC World podcast this AM and alot of countries (Italy, Spain, France) are already starting to loosen restrictions
My mom’s school gave all the students who didn’t have PCs tablets to attend the virtual classes. She says that participation has been OK, kinda clunky dealing with the transition, but she’s really worried about her at-risk kids who either don’t have a permanent home or reliable internet connection.

wife is a teacher she is currently on a conference call/video. She is answering emails and texts daily. She is still updating and posting stuff. Two youngest are middle school and high school age. They have to submit work at least 3 times a week. Maybe because my wife is a teacher we are taking it more serious but my kids will be doing the work until the end of the school year and summer if they have to.
My teacher wife, as well as my children, are all doing the same as yours. That does not speak to the majority, however. On a long enough timeline, this will not succeed, especially with summer approaching.
