brother in law works in production at FX, said Dave is considered the shit assignment. Said the only talent worse to work with is Rob Mcelhenney from Always Sunny. Both are allegedly over the top demanding and perfectionists.
he's new there and wasn't around during the Louie days but would bet Louis CK would be up there as well. He's primarily worked with Taika Waititi and BJ Novak and says both are great to work with
He definitely comes off as a dickhead in the show at times although it's hard to tell what's real and what's not

I have never seen one of these shows, but Sunny is the best TV show ever made. Even if that point is false (it's not), Sunny has been on for 15 plus years. Seems like maybe Rob is doing it correctly. When else has a comedy show improved over two decades? Also, after loving Sunny, I tried to watch Seinfeld. Seinfeld is a dogshit shit tier show. I can't understand how anyone thinks it is remotely good. Maybe this board and the rest of the internet has ruined my sense of humor and made innocent humor completely unfunny to me.
Yeah that doesn't seem surprising. I don't feel like the ball is hidden on that in the show. The meetings with record labels were meant to show how absolutely insane he is about his creative vision (to the point of being detrimental to his own career at times).
I think Seinfeld is one of those things like the Beatles. It doesn't hold up as well against a lot of modern shows because of the fact that almost every modern show is in some way an imitation of it. Sitcoms before Seinfeld were done a certain way and according to a certain formula. Seinfeld completely broke that - there's no real cohesive storyline, moral, or happy ending. That wasn't really a concept before Seinfeld. There's no Always Sunny without Seinfeld. I didn't grow up listening to the Beatles and I don't have as much context around them, but I always wondered what the hype was with the Beatles until someone explained it to me that way.
When you put it that way, it makes sense. They created the framework regardless of how shitty they built the rest of the show. I always think that The Sopranos is overrated because of the wasted episodes in every season, but it has to be appreciated for opening the doors to the Breaking Bad/SOA/Peaky Blinders type shows that I think are better.
this is a kind of intense response to a pretty benign "heard another celebrity is difficult to work with" post
Seinfeld still hold up great. Also Sunny is awesome but it has t improved towards the back end. Earlier seasons are better. I like Dave too.
I don't mind the rest of this post, but this doesn't make a ton of sense to me. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and still The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Seinfeld is still Seinfeld - I still consider it more or less the holy grail of sitcoms, and I'm not sure what modern sitcoms you say have better writing, story development, episodic/serial reward, etc. Are the laugh track and many storylines (pre-cell phones) archaic? Yeah. But if someone rates it "dogshit shit tier comedy" that's a them problem.
To be clear, I love Seinfeld and am definitely not calling it dogshit. Just trying to understand and explain why it might not "click" with someone who is turning it on for the first time ever in 2020.
Yeah I watched all of Sons of Anarchy. If I didn’t know the Seinfeld opinion was terrible, including SoA with BB let me know
Early 80s. Never got into Seinfeld and always hear my friends all but worship it. Like can't get through a sentence about it without laughing. Started trying to give it a chance and it does nothing for me. Obviously, I have seen episodes through the years because I didn't live under a rock. I agree with the guy that said that Seinfeld is like the Sopranos in that they made the shows that I think are better possible. I knew this was a hot take, but I did not anticipate the loyalty of the Seinfeld fans.
I am not done with SOA yet. My issue with the Sopranos might end up being the same issue with SOA. The Sopranos is extremely well done except for the dependable wasted episode in almost every season. BB did a few of them (fly episode) and Sopranos had the dream episode and the Columbus day episode off the top of my head. The show as a whole is amazing, but I was disappointed that they seemingly made a meaningless show that did nothing to drive the plot almost every season.
I am bored to death at work and I have hulu here, so let me take another angle. I am familiar with the characters in Seinfeld and their role (because I have heard so much about them constantly from friends). Give me a top list of episodes and change my mind. I realize that I am probably the problem, but I am open to exploring and to the possibility that I have never seen the best episodes.
Seinfeld is funny but I didnt think it was as amazing as everyone else. Plus one of my biggest pet peeves are Seinfeld superfans who compare everything to "Like that one time when George/Elaine/Kramer did this....!!!!"
That was pretty wild, I was dying laughing during the prison rap. Also Benny Blanco's Uncle Charles sweat shirt was amazing
I get why I wouldn't click. It was definitely ground breaking in terms of going to certain comic places on TV that had never been touched previously. It was literally must see TV and the day after you watched the show everyone would talk about what happened the night before. A lot of the comedy doesn't hold up because it became trope, but it doesn't take away from what the show meant.
That season was a lot of fun. FX has been killing it. I just wish the seasons had more episodes. Only 10 eps goes by so fast.
