Bryant was Brugler’s top rated UDFA 134. Hunter Bryant, TE, Washington (6-2, 248) With his speed and run balance, Bryant is a dynamic threat before and after the catch, making it tough for single tacklers to ground him in space. While he shows athletic ball skills, he is a low-percentage finisher with crowded catch points. As a blocker, he struggles to sustain and shouldn’t be expected to handle inline duties. Overall, Bryant is a low-ceiling blocker and could use a few more credits in receiving school, but his plus athletic traits as a pass-catcher make him a potential mismatch “move” tight end if the medicals are clean.
I'm a little behind so apologies if someone already made this observation, but "almost could be a slot receiver" made me chuckle.
It’s always amazes me how inefficient everyone in the NFL is. Hopefully this is a wake up call to every franchise that the game doesn’t have to consume you.
If we completely bomb this year again, we can get a new regime in and bring in Lawrence or Fields in the draft next year. Which I like both of them more than Tua. So it makes me feel even better about this draft and not taking him
This draft feels like a C+. If we sign Clowney and Stafford stays healthy all year, I could see us getting seven or eight wins.
The floor as far as expectations go, yes. 8 wins is probably the teams ceiling though, in terms of overall talent, and considering the division they play in. Which may be enough to buy Quinn another season. I think the improvements they have made on defense have been marginal at best this off season. I’m going with 6-10 next season. Everybody fired.
Home Chicago Bears - W Green Bay Packers - L Minnesota Vikings - L New Orleans Saints - L Tampa Bay Buccaneers - L Houston Texans - L Indianapolis Colts - W Washington Redskins - W Away Arizona Cardinals - L Atlanta Falcons - L Carolina Panthers - L Chicago Bears - L Green Bay Packers - L Jacksonville Jaguars - W Minnesota Vikings - L Tennessee Titans - L Actually that schedule is brutal. I went through quickly and only came up with 4 wins.
Last season was a waste with Stafford getting injured, lucked out with a corner who can shut down one side of the field. I think Patricia has his guys now. I think they can win 10 games, maybe more.
Current guess on final 53 man roster (apparently it's still 53 this year)... QB (3) - Stafford, Daniel, Blough RB (5) - Swift, Johnson, Scarbrough, Johnson, Huntley TE (3) - Hockenson, James, Bryant WR (5) - Golladay, Jones, Amendola, Cephus, Hall T (3) - Decker, Vaitai, Crosby G (4) - Dahl, Jackson, Stenberg, Wiggins C (2) - Ragnow, Benzschawel DT (4) - Shelton, Williams, Hand, Penisini DE (4) - Flowers, J Okwara, R. Okwara, Bryant LB (7) - Collins, Tavai, Davis, Jones, Ragland, Reeves-Maybin, Lee CB (5) - Okudah, Trufant, Coleman, Oruwariye, Ford S (5) - Walker, Harmon, Harris, Kearse, Killebrew ST (3) - Prater, Fox, Muhlbach
That would help, but I think the biggest thing they have to get is internal improvement of the young guys already there. Hockenson needs to take a big jump, and I think he can if he stays healthy. Hand needs to stay healthy because he's our only DT I believe in rushing the passer. Tavai needs to take a big jump in coverage, which his scouting report says he can but I'm not sure I think Tracy Walker could take a big step and be a potential elite S, although maybe I'm too high on him. That's the shit we need to happen more than adding vets who, at this point, probably aren't going to provide much other than depth, IMO.
I think the variance of possible outcomes there is as wide as any position we have. If we get improvement from Tavai, the good version of Collins and Davis in more of an edge/pass rush role, I think that's a solid/good group. If we get rookie Tavai, the Cleveland version of Collins and Davis is trying to play MLB and cover again, we're going to be terrible.
How they use the LBs also affects Okwara as a rookie. Wouldn't be surprised if they go into the season with Davis playing Kennard's spot, with Collins, Tavai and either Ragland or Jones as the 4th LB.
Since 2013, 10 of our 25 top 3 round picks were used on RB and OL. Plus another 2 on TE. And yet we've had zero 1000 yard rushers in that time frame
Give him a big bonus (For a Punter) and sign him up for two years. He wasn’t great last year but he also didn’t have to punt much.
The Athletic had execs discuss every teams draft The Lions got the first cornerback, second running back and third guard selected in a draft that falls at a pivotal time for third-year coach Matt Patricia and fifth-year GM Bob Quinn. “Loved what they did,” an exec said. “They did not reach. They got the best corner on the board (Jeff Okudah). They got what some would say is the best running back on the board (D’Andre Swift). They got a versatile ‘backer that can come in and play (Julian Okwara). They got some good toughness on the interior of their line, and then the rest of the guys are just solid. I really do respect how they went about it.” An offensive coordinator who studied the running backs closely said he thought Swift would be the first one selected. “Swift and Kerryon Johnson complement each other very well,” an evaluator said. “My concern about Detroit’s offense is at tackle, where they have average starters who lack the athleticism needed to go against the edge players in Chicago and Green Bay.” Detroit did get help at guard, appearing to read the market correctly by trading up 10 spots to select Jonah Jackson in the third round. No guards were selected over the next 33 picks. “They will need Swift to be an offensive rookie of the year candidate and (Matt) Stafford to be healthy all year to make a run at that division,” an exec said. “I don’t think the defense will be good enough to carry them.”
New management next year drafts a LT in the top 10 and a RT in the 2nd. The Lions make the playoffs 3 of 4 years starting in 2021.
Average = Terrible Decker sucks. I'm positive the dickhead they signed to play RT sucks. Also, I don’t really think they are that close to a perennial playoff team. I'm so bored.
Isn’t the deadline coming up on Davis option? What a terrible pick that was. They should have declined Deckers option too.
