If you read Michael Silver's article on the Jags draft (Silver is friend's with Tony Khan), sounds like the Jags feel set at OL. I bet we go WR then RB tonight. As far as the draft, I am fine with it. Frankly, no one really fell in our lap like I had hoped.
Agreed. It's really disconcerting. I would have been thrilled if we had taken Wirfs at 9 then Chaisson at 20. Move Robinson into guard.
But yeah I could see RB tonight if we are set on trading LF, although not my preference. Go interior lineman in the fourth with our two picks. I was going to say LB but I forgot we signed the white guy who can thank Christ take mike from Myles Jack who was horrendous last year.
Look, I’m not saying this is the greatest draft ever. But I am at least very encouraged by a thoughtful, sound strategy of addressing need and going after positions in the right rounds.
Wildly disappointing draft to me. Shenault is my favorite pick by far, but passing on Wirfs seems like a horrendous choice. Hopefully, this is the last draft for this FO.
Agree on Wirfs. Thought that was a no brainer. I really don't view it as that disappointing overall though. I really like most of the later picks. Not really sure we needed Chaisson but he's a heckuva player.
just seems like we raised the floor, but not the ceiling. Chaisson seems like a big reach, and he didn’t even have ten sacks during his entire tenure at LSU. I just hope we can stink enough to finally draft a franchise qb.
Those teal goggles are getting the better of you here. Jags 1st round was poor, but they seemed to address needs as we got deeper in the draft
Nothing of the sort. I dropped season tickets because of retaining Caldwell. I hate the guy. But Chaisson is a good player.
Man looking at the projected defensive depth chart....teams are going to run for 300 yds/g on us. Derek Henry may break a single game record.
Lost Calais. Our interior line right now is Abry Jones and Gunter. LB’s were the worst statistically in the league last year and from what I can tell Schobert is better in coverage than vs the run. Andrew Wingard will still get meaningful snaps.
Our interior will be a combination of Gunter, Wood, Jones and Hamilton. Much better than last year when Dareus was out. Losing Calais hurts but I expect big things from Allen. Schobert is a massive improvement at Mike and Jack was pretty strong ay OLB before the move to Mike.
If Taven became an impact player, it was always going to be a surprise to me...but I genuinely thought he'd at least be a rotation guy. Which means the Jags reached(not a surprise) but he was the sort of all-around player with the self work ethic to make it in the NFL.
Yea I’m kinda shocked that the guy hasn’t been at least a rotation player given everything related to his work ethic
The fact that he made an impact at the college level under Mac's coaching staff really signaled to me that he was responsible for his own improvement. Maybe he's just not naturally talented enough to succeed at the next level. My mind has tried to erase the Mac tenure, so I'm trying to recall if Taven was ever an impact in important games, or if he was just a cupcake stat guy.
He is in the rotation, he just does not do much at all. He seems to have zero football IQ. There are times he beats his man and has no clue where the football is.
I don’t think that interior is better considering the massive loss of Campbell, he was our best defensive player for the past 3 years. Also we were a bottom 5 defense against the run last year so being better than that is not a high bar. I agree moving Myles to MLB never made sense, and he should be much better suited in his original role. But at the same time, he has a shit ton to prove. He was AWFUL last year and it looks worse because it was the same offseason we paid him. I’m not trying to be overly negative, but I think pretty much everywhere is expecting us to be a bottom three team next year for a reason, and I don’t think it will be offensive driven.
Guys, we're going to be shitty. Let's just hope we're shitty enough to get the #1 pick and get this front office fired.
Last year was the year to fire everyone, I can’t see how they would do it after this season regardless of outcome. Clean house before the rebuild not one season into it. That’s why the Khans decision to blame it all in TC and keep everyone else was so frustrating. word doc’d
Andre Branch 2.0 And the defense will be bad, but losing Dareus hurt the most against the run. Calais wasn’t great in that department last year. Team tank for Trevor.
Some of the problem with all of this is that great players will always come into the league and at least marginally succeed. Even under bad coaching. But bring a guy that shows flashes, with high upside, into a shitty coaching situation...and he'll never become a fucking thing. We've drafted some busts. But we've also drafted some guys that have come in, done well as rookies, and then either regressed or never progressed until they were off the team.
I won’t argue about coaching, but we just drafted busts. Reggie Nelson was better when he left, but that’s just one guy, and I’m hard pressed to think of any more.
I think it's hard to say, honestly. We draft guys that come into an organization with a terrible culture. They have a 10% chance of succeeding. Same guy goes to New England and has a much better shot. We need a player or coach that changes the entire culture. Makes players give a fuck. It's sad that I was torn on Tua even coming here. Would be fun for me but I know it's not in the best interest of his career.
Really think the culture has only been shitty for the last 2-3 years. Our biggest issue before that, and probably still, is shitty QB play. We also have built a team around defense and running the ball like its the 1970s.
I’ve lived in jax for 10 years now and I’d say it’s been a culture of losing for at least 8 of those years. Had the chance to change it after the playoff run but everything fell apart and we’re back to sucking.
We've had a losing team. The bad locker room culture started with Ramsey, Fowler, Ngakoue and Fournette. Even Calais' presence was not enough to overcome their shittiness. I know that the staff knows believes they underestimated the impact of losing Poz and Barry Church.
I’m just busting your balls Duval , it’s been a long (checks watch) ten years and about to be number 11. Optimism about draft picks is about all I got.
Does this guy have any shot at sticking in the NFL #Texas Longhorns? I thought at the time it was just a novelty pick since he’s a 6’6 receiver.
