Definitely. So he’s around, but I still do think there is a Cooper. My neighbor claims he saw two flying around one day and the other hawk was definitely smaller and fast as shit. Don’t get me wrong this guy in the pics can move as well but looks slow comparatively.

Btw that’s my neighbors camper. They said that he’s obsessed with the black thing on the roof. They hear him up there when they are inside. They even banged on the roof a few times and he does not give one shit.

Just saw a male Summer Tanager. First for me since keeping track now I guess ha. Got to watch it for a while and listen to its call. Not sure if it was chasing a female or not, but I saw another bird I suspect to have been a female leave a tree a close by and he took off after it. Kept hearing it's calls as I continued walking around. No pic from me but here's one from Cornell:

Was carrying some stuff to a barn tonight. Saw a silhouette on the power line (dusk), and froze in my tracks in time to not disrupt a western meadowlark call and response that lasted about 90 seconds. Cool way to end chores - birds were very active and vocal on this perfect weather day.

I’ll have been in my new house for 1 year come May 1. I just added up my list of birds seen/heard in my yard and the surrounding yards since moving and I’m at 57. Going to spend some extra time in the yard over the next few days to try and catch some migrants to get to an even 60. Regardless, not bad for being in the heart of a major metropolitan area.

Greatest diversity was in woodpeckers and wood-warblers (7 species each)

Initially I thought Robin but after minutes of research I lean towards Eastern Bluebird due to the brightness of the blue

Bluebirds for sure. They’re both in the same family though (thrushes), so you weren’t too far off.

I *think* I saw a Scarlett Tanager today. Hanging on a power line down the driveway. Didn't have the binocs, but it wasn't far away. Definitely had some dark on its back, and was a different song/call than I had heard from the Summer. I'll have to keep an eye out. I thought I saw some more the other day, think they may be along a fence line.

My boss said to put black oil sunflower seed out (as you can see, that's whats in my feeder) but upon further review, the feeder used to have something similar, but way smaller than black oil sunflower in there. Any ideas?

Son of a B. you are exactly right. Time to google to see if that will bring a different mix than finches.

I don't think the blue jays are touching it, not sure on the cardinals.

Not yet up here in Northern Indiana. I should actually put out my feeder for them this weekend after all the rain moves through. Usually put it out a week or so after the Oriole feeder goes out. Late April / Early May. Might have to pick up a 2nd one. Love those little guys.

Edit: Planted a Humming Bird Vine (Campsis radicans) last year and trained it to grow on my porch underneath the feeder. The birds seemed to like that.

I've seen a few around but don't have a feeder. Saw the same ruby throated a couple days in a row a couple weeks back, it may have just been stopping through. I've found old nests before those are neat

Tbh, I never questioned it because someone told me that's what it was. But looking now I think it's more likely some sort of Luna Moth cocoon.

It's weird, I found an egg sac if some sort earlier this year an in an attempt to identify it I found exactly what I thought that "hummingbirds nest" was, but now I can't seem to find it.

The egg sac I believe to have been praying mantises. I cut the thorn vines it was on moved it when it started to warm up to watch it, but I think it was old. Haven't seen any action out of it.

This one was found on the ground, but I've seen and left another one on a tree. It's still there if I'm not mistaken, saw it the other day. I don't know what it is, but someone told me hummingbird nest and I never looked it up until now and it doesn't look like any of the ones I'm seeing.

That is why I suspect to be a praying mantis egg sac. Found it at about shin level when I was out walking around looking for deer signs.

Yeah, never seen any thing like the first pic. The 2nd def looks like the mantis egg sac. Used to have them all the time in my Clematis growing on the split rail fence.

I put out Sunflower seed mix all year.

I give peanuts exclusively to the Scrub Jays, they go crazy for them. I haven't seen any other bird go for them, maybe they aren't quicker than the Jays.
