What would you do? I don’t mind having jt in June but wouldn’t care if they did it in August as well.
I think I would do it in June at this point. Doing it in August is going to hurt the kids, the Junior teams, etc.
TJ Oshie was on the Blues Athletic podcast. He said he was so worried about fitting in as a rookie and making a good impression. He was road roommates w Barret Jackman. He would rush off the bus and into their room. Jump into Jackman's bed and lie in it for a while, then get out and into his bed. All so Jackman would have a warm bed/sheets to get into lol. what weirdo.
There seems to be a big worry that the AHL will play a truncated season, if not cancel the season outright because teams make their money on the live gate. If there are no fans, teams can’t afford to operate. The NHL won’t want to expand rosters, so I am curious how teams manage their players in that scenario. I assume Detroit would loan a guy like Seider back to Mannheim, but you can only loan so many players before those teams taking the players fill up. Will be interesting to see unfold.
Seider was a bad example because he will make the team out of Camp. Joe Veleno is a better example of a guy that needs to play but isn’t ready for the NHL. Assuming European leagues operate, he would be a candidate for loan. Every team has a few guys they would want to do that with, but how many realistically can you expect to be loaned out?
All the North American players will go play Canadian senior hockey and have to embarrass Jonesy and Riley w their dirty dangles and snipe cellys
Both players and owners want to maximize the hockey revenues. even if they finish the regular season with no stands, they can get the TV money. They are fine pushing the start of next year into November apparently.
I don’t really understand what about our circumstances is about to change that’s going to allow things like sporting events to happen in the near future. not sure what i’m missing, but I feel like people thinking we’re close to the end of this are lying to themselves.
Because some states letting WWE and UFC operate, other leagues think they can too. I mean if they secluded the teams and had plenty of tests to confirm no one involved tested positive before playing games it is possible, but I agree highly unlikely soon to me.
My guess is the league has determined the latest they can start the season is July 1, but they want to get started earlier if possible. This is all wish and prayer.
The circumstances haven’t changed but they’ve used the time to figure out logistics to play games and keep people safe theoretically
Was McDounough one of Stan's allies or one the guys he butt heads w? I know there's been a lot of turmoil in the FO but lost track of who is in which camp
Hired Stan, also came out after the trade deadline and said both Stan and Jeremy would be back next year
it’s fun to rewatch these old games when you listened to a few spittin chiclets interview. The Crosby one, he talked about that game seven in 2009 against the fighting The Banks and DeToxRox I just got home and am watching the third, Crosby talked about his short shift and he looked so uncomfortable. He also talked about how Pitt could not get past the red line. I did not realize how bad it was, Pitt were on their heels. Completely dominated and hanging on for dear life.
June draft with old lottery rules please. Hell, if they are really worried about a team winning the lottery and then making the playoffs, just give pick to the Red Wings, no risk of that happening
I don't know why they are so adamant about starting the season back up. Its going to be tough just to get playoffs in. Just freeze the standings now, have the lottery, if the NHL resumes there will be playoffs, go by PPG for standings.
They are terrified of a team on the bubble like the islanders winning the lotto, then making the playoffs and going on a Cup run. It would be a bad look, but the odds are small and it’s better than taking 12 teams out of the running for the #1 pick at the 11th hour
Thats why I say cancel the regular season. I just don't see any way they play out the last 6 weeks of the season and then 2 months of playoffs before well into the fall and maybe the winter. I don't know what their plan would be, start in August, playoffs in mid-September, finish in early November? Then what? 3 weeks off and play a 48 game season starting in early January? That seems insane.
Most teams are hovering around 69-70 games played. To me it seems a little more simple if they want to come back. Cap this season at 75 games played. Have every team play their remaining games to get to 75 games. Alter the schedule if necessary to ensure bubble teams play. Spread the 5-6 games over 2 weeks, hell even 3 if necessary. Then have the playoffs.
Not really sure if that's possible. The schedule wasn't designed that way and teams won't just end up all at 75 games
With no fans there is no reason to finish the regular season. If you play for Detroit or San Jose for example, why bother spending weeks getting back in shape to play a few meaningless games? Expand the field, put seven teams in the lottery based on points % and call it a day.
I do think going to 24 teams with play in games is at least unique. Plus you squeeze in all the markets you want.
Play in round in the east with 6 teams - Tor, FL, Car, CBJ, NYI, NYR. Play in round in the west with 6 teams - Dal, WPG, NSH, MIN, CGY, VAN (sorry Phx) 2 teams from each conference make it. 12 teams above are already in the playoffs. Everyone below is in the draft lottery. Thank you for your time. I think my math is right, counting is hard
