I had unrealistically thought every episode would be like that wrt the music. Fuck me, that was great. I need more dick content in my life
I had relatively high expectations going in. I knew already being a fan I'd most likely enjoy it regardless. That season surpassed all expectations and was legit a extremely good season of tv.
I’m so glad he went that direction. I’ve listened to that song and watched the video a lot. I figured it was real to him but 1.9 seems to confirm it
He removed White Dude off his page - probably more likely is referring to that as being a culture vulture and such
Tons of positive press after the finale which is great to see. I didn't know it was the highest rated FXX show ever; granted that's not a long history but still cool
Yeah, I was remembering some of the interactions with Charlamane; for a split second I thought he was going to play Jail in response to that awkwardness when CTG asked LD what he was doing for the Black Lives Matter movement or whatever (from the real interview)
Granted I don't know anything about these guys, but Charlemagne came off like a dick at times, especially when he was going after the Jewish stereotypes. I thought Dicky handled it well though. Also, I was let down when he couldn't free style after seeing what he did on the show.
Thats just Charlamagne. Unfortunately in todays rap world almost NOBODY freestyles. Especially in the internet age, shit would never die if its terrible. Hell Dicky 1st freestyle on Sway which was ridiculous, 2 months later it was on his first album "Bruh"
I just finished the first season. I didn't expect this to hit the way it did. But that was impressive and so well made for a S1. We all need a friend like Gata.
He's a douchebag that is extremely inconsistent with his rhetoric. I'm kind of annoyed that a number of outlets (HBO gave him a deal) give him air time.
I don’t really see how is older music is vastly different from where the show went at times. Like him fucking the sex doll and the milking scene is “worse” than any rap topic is has.
Based on some of her interactions after that tweet, I think she’s just saying he’s not a good rapper in her opinion. Not that the subject matter of the songs turned her off or whatever.
One tweet in reply to that tweet above, the guy said he was “weirded out by him always insisting he’s the best” or something. I’m glad I’m not the only one who has that thought lol. I enjoy most of his music, and think he’s a talented guy obviously, but sometimes he does come off like he truly believes he belongs in the conversation with the true GOATs of rap. And it’s more than just the standard rapper “I’m the best” type mention in a song or something. I get to be successful you have to believe in yourself and all of that, so I do get it a little bit, but sometimes he just seems to lack awareness or something. That tweet just reminded me of how I would feel watching his interviews back when he first blew up.
Saw a tweet somewhere with a clip of him on Nick Cannon iirc and he said Gata is his irl hype guy. Said they’ve been super close friends forever and the breakfast club scene between them is exactly how they really feel.
I knew Gata was his hype man from the videos back when he did his first tour, but I didn’t know Elz was a real guy too. I was watching one of his videos from Sway’s show and he says “Elz drop that” to the DJ before he performs a song from the CD. Not the same dude from the TV show, but still was surprised it’s a “real person”.
She's saying she loves the show but his music sucks. She goes on to say he can rap but his songs are bad, Freaky Friday in particular
Yeah the relationship with Gata is completely real. He was at the very first show I saw him at years ago. He passed a gold leaf blunt around the front row. That was a strange communal experience.
He's the Stephen A of hip-hop. Half the time, he's contrarian just to be contrarian, and the other half, he's just driving traffic.
To play devil’s advocate, I don’t think you can say one song = “his music”. Just my opinion, but if you were just starting to listen to LD after watching Dave, it could be hard to get into his music. As LD himself said in that tweet, most of the music he released is now 5+ years old. He has a weird/limited selection of music, that in my opinion, is either really solid, or easily skippable. I could see a song like “Pillow Talking” not overly impressing a random person who just wanted to see what this random rapper from FXX was all about.
"Bruh", The Cypher", and his verses on "How Can You Sleep" are all better than Russ on the Farm...and all of them display the best of his lyrical ability. Throw in "Molly" and even the second half of "Lemme Freak(Fo Real)", and you get a pretty good synopsis of his ability and personality.
I don’t disagree with those songs listed above. I was just speaking from the point of view of someone who watched Dave and wanted to hear his raps and they got most of the comedic singles.
My point was she probably just watched the videos with the most views which are going to be the more comedic ones and not the better songs.
This song isn’t really the best song to point to when you wanna give someone an idea of his music tho. I wish it was because it’s brilliant
Binged Dave the last two days. I never would have imagined I’d love this show as much as I do. Can’t wait for S2.
