I laughed when he predicted Bill would “really come around on him” if the Pats signed Dalton. Will get ratioed itt but Rusillos pods the last 4 weeks have been really good. His worst stuff by far is when he’s on Bills pod.
Leinart focusing on eatery choices was ehh...then he told the drinking stories and it got more entertaining. It was funny when Leinart missed Russillo’s joking about Mangino working at Applebee’s.
Yeah he totally missed that. Pissed me off hearing FSU and Amato said Booger was too small. He told the same thing to Ray Lewis.
“The one thing I can’t figure out toward solving sports coming back during this pandemic is how to keep the people safe”. Hmmm
I follow the main ringer account on twitter and this stupid reality tv tournament has filled my timeline. had to hit the mute.
I don't think there's a list of topics I want to see less in a show description than "the 86 Celtics, Jarrett Stidham and true crime docs" The fact the guests include Peter Schrager (new BS ass kisser de jour), Joe House (the Babe Ruth of BS ass kissing) and JackO is icing on the cake. KOC is an ass kisser too but he kinda has to so I won't hold it against him.
I every time I see your Cafe Altura tag line. Shrager was solid, Bill bounced random opium fueled scenarios at him about playing football on the moon broadcast by Amazon and Peter replied with solid intel about players association, small market owners, etc
A show I last watch like 15 years ago,Bill still guffaws over. Different strokes though. on the escape from NY pod, I liked how they brought on the pod producer to weigh in. He goes “who is today’s Kurt russell” - ya know trying to bring a point of convo up. Shea, Bill and Chris were like ITS KURT RUSSELL. Pod producer flat out ignored their attempt at humor and pontificated lol. Nephew Kyle added nothing to pods.
I have never seen Escape from NY so debating if I just read the plot and then listen or just skip it.
Both Sal and Schrager are good football guests. I haven't listened to many of Simmons' recent pods but his latest one (86 celtics, jack-o and house) seems okay. enjoyed their talk about important life events/aliens. i was busy during the basketball talk but i think KOC and Simmons talked about the challenges of comparing teams across decades; i didn't actually hear any part specific about the 86 Celtics.
Does the Schraeger podcast get past “hypothetical ways to play football this fall”? I’m sorry but all the hypothetical ways play sports conversations have played out. I know coming up with topics is hard these days, but jeez, how long can you keep talking about the same topic in every sport?
wonder what happened between Bill and Aaron Schatz (sp) the Football Outsiders dude, he was a regular guest (and a Boston homer, naturally) and then suddenly he's never on anymore Plus if he can have Zach Lowe on these days occasionally, why no Barnwell?
“I don’t care about any college sports” I get that Bill didn’t go to a college known for sports, but many many people don’t and still like college football/basketball. Always found that preference really strange from a guy whose job is sports.
I don't necessarily mind all of the butt kissing and mega homer Boston takes because that's just kind of who he is but whenever Bill starts talking about rock music or I guess music in general. It reminds me of my family members who only watch football on Thanksgiving and the Super Bowl trying to tell me about who the best players are
I enjoy when he has musicians on and he recycled his “rock is dead” take and their typical response is “music is more exciting than its ever been”.
Really the Spotify/Youtube era (or torrance era for some people) has been amazing if you are someone who likes to hunt for new stuff. You used to have to go into a record store and try to figure out from the band logo and cover art if it was going to be any good. Somewhat related trivia: this is why the subgenre of most metal bands can be identified by their logo and cover art
By not watching any college football, I feel this gives me unique insight on the draft and I should be used as a resource full of valuable information.
I think people from New England and the Northeast only really care about professional sports. There are lots of pro teams, they're good or have a rich history, and there aren't significant college sports programs in football or basketball (though basketball had some strong programs historically). Throw in the small college thing (where lots of NE people attend) and it just adds to it. You would think the Ringer would hire more college-focused people being in LA (where college sports aren't massive like the Lakers or Dodgers but they're popular, particularly when the teams are good). Especially now with all of the college podcasts really dying or drying up due to covid/sports cancellations.
My favorite college football take of his is that he can't stand all of the incompletions. There were like two dozen+ quarterbacks in d1 that completed over 65% of their passes
Rock is dead EXCEPT for Greta Van Fleet, lets not forget that, Justin Bieber's manager told him that once so he makes sure to name-drop them accordingly
Another podcast I listen to had the advertisement for a pod where Chris Ryan and Chuck Klosterman talk about music, but specifically "how you think about music when you aren't listening to music." If you like that great, but that sure as hell isn't for me.
there was that twitter thing that went around recently about 9/11 + covid + the third event what.cd going down is my event.
Bill: "people saying the 96 Bulls were the best team ever need to do their research, at the time everybody said the first 3 peat teams were better" also Bill: has the 96 and 97 Bulls as the 2nd and 3rd best teams of all time in his book
Did he have the 86 Celtics best all time? With rapid expansion in the late 80s/90s, I don't think the league was as deep during the second Bulls run.
He did say today it would be hard for the 86 Celtics to shore with 17 Warriors. He said their head would be spinning due to all the threes.
I think I hate "who would win...?" arguments about teams from different eras more than I hate "who was better...?" arguments about players from different eras. And I've really grown to hate the player arguments. I'm not speaking to you specifically or disagreeing with you. It has nothing to do with anything you wrote. I'm just using your post as an excuse to vent my annoyance from all the things that have come from the Jordan doc these last three weeks.
especially when the only thing added to the discussions is literally: "(Team/Player from the past) would learn how to be a great 3 point shooter these days"
"And knowing Bill Russell's work ethic and just how much he wanted to help the team win, its not inconceivable that he would learn how to shoot 3's, at least into the mid 30% range to become more of a stretch 5 in today's game"
