And I don't think that kind of stuff would make my top 15 things about those conversations that annoy me most.
2. Everything Wilbon writes and says 3-15. Me already being annoyed after #s 1 and 2 and having no patience for anyone else who chimes in.
i enjoy them but you have to engage with people who are willing to set the ground rules to make it in the realm of apples to apples* *almost nobody actually wants to do this they just want to make nonsense arguments
There are no ground rules to make it apples to apples, which is why I hate them. Teams construct themselves to play in the eras they play in. The Celtics wouldn't play the same way if they had to play in 2020, so there's no point in comparing teams like that. The Warriors would be crying to officials for 48 minutes if they got dropped into 1992, and the Bulls would all foul out in 10 minutes if they had to play in 2017. It's stupid.
My favorite is when I see clips of Bob Cousy dribble the ball with one hand up to his face over and over and I'm supposed to act like him and Chris Paul are equals
Quarantine day ?: listening to Rewatchables Gladiator while cooking breakfast Day is downhill once I finish my coffee and omelette.
bill forgetting about lex lugers narcissist gimmick is borderline unforgivable the source of the most homoerotic promo ever
Listened to the Russillo/Simmons post-Last Dance pod and thought it was stupid. There's something about media people who constantly call athletes by their nicknames that annoys the hell out of me, and Russillo called Jordan "MJ" at least 50x in that pod. Lowe's pod with Mike Greenberg, of all people, was much more interesting to me.
Can someone explain what russillo was trying to say with his “as a white guy being shouted down about my Rodman take” rant?
"And the other thing that happens is, you know this is always something that as a white male, is that if somebody hates something that I say, they will say, "oh, I don't like that you said this" okay, and anyone that's not in that category, the bullshit part of having an opinion that if a woman in sports says something and it's like "oh, you're just a woman" and like look, you can not like my point, but don't start where you already doubt me because I'm a woman. And you know, if you're anybody that's a minority, a lot of time it's just shitty stuff, it's so brutal if you really dip your toes into it... and I remember when Michael and Jemele had "The Six" and people didn't like the show, alright, but the reasons they said they didn't like the show were just like so fucked up, and if you're that person, you're going okay, this is why everybody... and this is the first time ever, as like a white male, where you go oh cuz I'm older, people think, like someone that disagrees with me, it's because of a specific thing about me now, that once I have a "four" in front of my age, it's like "oh, you're a fucking idiot" like I'm a young person on social media, and it's not because I'm a white male, it's not because... it's just like you're a dumb old guy now that doesn't understand Rodman and the funniest part of that it is that I felt that way when I was 19!" This guy was once considered can't-miss radio
I think what he was trying to say isnt nearly as cringy as the words that came out of his mouth. I think he was just trying to say its the first time that he noticed his opinion was invalidated just because of who he is. But the way he started that...NOT GREAT.
Hot take incoming i liked their talking about that Orlando squad. The greatest what if teams of life are that Magic Team, the OKC with Harden team and the Blazers if Roy/Oden don’t get hurt. I also never considered Sean Eliot or Shrempf on those Bulls teams
I usually like Russillo’s takes but that was about as cringeworthy as it gets. I’m kind of surprised Bill didn’t have it cut.
I think about the Suns never trading Joe Johnson and selling all those draft picks a lot. You think Nash/Joe Johnson/Shawn Marion/Amar'e with Iggy, Rudy Fernandez and Rondo shoring up the bench might have eventually gotten a ring or three?
It would need to be a 10 parter like the Last Dance, hell 2 parts alone on the Kurt Thomas/Marcus Banks summer
Wilbon making it a point to call Magic "Earvin" as much as possible during their time on that ESPN pregame show together is up there too Jordan also has nicknames on his basketball-reference page that I've never heard anyone use before Money, Black Cat, Mr. June, Captain Marvel
maybe they just go by what they hear moaned outside rickyrubio4life's apartment late at night and go with that
I had never heard Jordan called "Money" until John Salley called him that in a couple interviews I heard since the start of the doc. The other three I've never heard anywhere and they're all stupid.
Mr. June and Captain Marvel are lame in the sense that they are just ripoffs Black Cat was apparently a marketing thing for his shoes and other merch. I never liked Black Mamba for Kobe because I thought it was really forced but Black Cat is about 100x worse
Also when you're as good as Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant, you don't need a nickname. Especially if your first name is Kobe. Lame Kobe Bryant nicknames from basketball-ref: Vino, Showboat, Little Flying Warrior Somewhat less lame: The Eighth Man
Basketball-ref's nicknames list could be its own thread easily LeBron has King James, the Chosen One, LBJ, and the Akron Hammer for good ones Bron-Bron is okay The Little Emperor is terrible. I don't even know what that means nor have I ever heard him called that
Billons is an awful show. I feel like nobody in the business wants to say it because they're friendly with Brian Koppelman. It's like Entourage but less endearing
I love when Koppelman talks about making “prestige TV” likes he’s making the Sopranos or Mad Men. I think you’re right...no one wants to tell him. I do enjoy Billions, but it’s just fun to watch rich people. There’s nothing really interesting about it.
Among nicknames for Charles Barkley on his basketball reference page, I had never heard of The Bread Truck or Boy Gorge. Really sad about all the wasted years without knowing about Boy Gorge.
billions was ok, but then succession showed up and made it seem like a soap opera in comparison from a quality standpoint
I watched Billions S1 but my Showtime expired and I just never picked it up back up. I really enjoyed S1 but I have no real urge to continue. Although I do really like Koppelman.
Speaking of Showtime. Just started watching season 1 of Homeland. Not bad at all. Going back to the latest Rewatchabulls, it's a shame that Orlando fizzled as quickl as they did. They had a really good team and young nucleus.
Billions is sort of like a Tarantino movie in that I dont really care about the story, I just like the way the characters talk
