I watched very little of you guys last season - is there no "Percy position" left from the Urban days?
Not really. Our RB will split out, but the H-Back spot has been evolving towards a more traditional slot guy (KJ Hill last season).
Nah. The last true "Percy" we had was Curtis Samuel in 2016/2017. As referenced, it doesn't look like that is coming back with Day's offense.
Yeah he was so small, lost some of his suddenness when he bulked up and didn’t take well to getting passed over for carries. He showed promise his FR year in the limited carries he had. he also lacks top end speed, which isn’t ideal for a APB
always been the case. Remember that 2006 class where basically Harvin was the only dude in like the top 15 that ever contributed meaningfully? VA gets overvalued in recruiting, I feel like a solid 80% of blue chippers who leave the state end up busting because they're simply not able to handle the competition they find at these big OOS programs.
i went back through that last ten years and it was very disappointing. they don't want to play in state anyway so fuck em.
i don't think the coaches are going to like Bronco & Co any more than the last few staffs. we are already not offering the right kids in state per twitter, and if we offer right kids we didn't do it as soon as somebody else, the goalposts are always moving.
Fuente isn't well-liked there either but the lightbulb flicked on in his tiny head and he realized he played and coached in Texas so we've just been getting Texas blue chips now, which are so insanely better than Virginia blue chips I no longer care who we miss here if we just replace them with a Texas kid. basically what happened in VA is VT (and late Welsh/early Groh UVA) played so well with VA kids that everyone finally thought they struck it rich with an OOS hotbed so they came to cherry pick. kids were no longer happy with just a VT or UVA offer (sans-Mike London era) and now those schools are basically returning the feeling. why waste the time and effort on those kids if they're too stupid to listen to reason. Slade is a great example, he should have never left the state. he'd have been RB1 on day 1 at either school and piling up the yards and draft film, instead he's going to nowheresville and probably has a 20 second draft reel.
honestly i don't feel like VA was ever loyal to the in state schools. PSU, FSU, UGA, UT, and others would take the best players when i was growing up in the 80's and 90's. I got excited when Groh signed a bunch and thought things were changing some, the London offers never felt good. the most talented gave up soon after arriving on campus.
Va Tech isn't all that close to much of the talent and UVA has always been more into basketball. The close radius to Maryland is better than UVA/Tech combined but basketball school too and college park sucks.
True story when Bronco was hired I had a 4* who was ready to commit to an out of state program and we gave them a courtesy visit, he spent more time trying to sell his book than actually recruit our kid. He is a good coach but he isn't winning fans in state, which in the long run is going to doom him, caught lightning in a bottle with the QB but I think they come back to Earth this year. With Bud retiring we were hoping Fuente would go to Baylor, recruits NC harder than he does VA. The problem with these programs is they don't have people that understand VA. Fuente and his group from Memphis missed out of several high priority players and have opted for a lot of OOS guys on fringe offer late, if your taking a flyer on some kids who may never do anything but your filling a need you may want to take a chance on a kid from Oscar Smith or Westfield instead of going to Charlotte for a fringe kid. If VT was smart Brent Pry would be on VT's staff. GA for Foster, DC at PSU and understands the importance of recruiting VA. VT might be screwed though cause less and less kids want to go to Blacksburg thanks to options like PSU who are just as close but winning and making way more of a priority to recruit the DMV UVA is the one that has really missed out on in state talent if they made the 540/703 a priority and kept kids like These are all prospect within 100 miles of campus. keep these kids who you win the coastal every year. There is no priority on northern VA. Devyn Ford - North Stafford Jimmy Christ - Sterling Yetur Gross-Matos - Chancellor EJ Jenkins - Chancellor Jason Brown - Chancellor RJ Adams - Woodbridge Antoine Sampah - Woodbridge Landon Woodson - Stafford Brandon Smith - Louisa Eugene Asante - Westfield Jakai Moore - Patriot Donovan Beaver - Massaponax Dylan Rivers - Sherando Mekhi Becton - Highland Springs
have heard last year was a flash in the pan a few offseasons in a row, so i’m not ready to accept UVA backslides too bad. i wish bronco had more ties in state, but he’s got a lot of young guys on staff. it might round out if we hold up
Bronco has raised the basement, he knows football. Just not sold you all will be coastal contenders year in year out.
not sure what the deal is but all of a sudden he and some other guys in your staff have got a real bad rep with the Miami hs football community
Saw it on Twitter. There was a thread from those "close to him" but I had no way of knowing if they really were.
you think a nice big bag won’t fix that for certain kids? But for real don’t know anything about Brooks just heard it with Walker and apparently the Palmetto kids
I have no idea if that has anything to do with it as nothing has come out as to the reason but if it was I doubt those “close to him” would say it was, atleast I hope not
With walker I’m sure his people aren’t happy with whatever reason, but doubt walker has anything to do with the palmetto kids
What have you heard on Leonard Taylor? Some seem to think we are in that a lot more than people are saying...
It’s not tied directly but same people on UF side involved apparently that turning them off according to the only poster we have that knows anything I haven’t paid any attention to 21 kids, just found the palmetto stuff and UF with the info on Walker from our only legit source
Eh we’ll see I don’t have much confidence in us recruiting vs Bama/Clemson for them but this will be a convenient excuse
I'd wager 80% of cfb players have mental health issues kid just wasnt feeling the strain/pussy selection having been to Latchwuh county a time or 2 myself I know exactly why he felt buyer's remorse
Not a shocker. Poor kid got the cliche "well if you think this kid is good wait until you see his younger brother" label slapped on him when he's not really anywhere close to his brother
#Mississippi State Bulldogs OT Stewart Reese is now in the portal, started 37 games there has long been rumored to be joining his brother at UF and Mullen/Hevesy who recruited and coached at MSU We’ll see
