That is true but I’m just talking about NCAA football game. They are still allowed to make other way, but my thought was for just the game.

Your tell me they couldn’t make some sort of blanket contract that says by signing this you agree to let us use your likeness as a 6’3” white QB with the number 7 and blonde hair. Come on I could write something up in a day. Soon as you sign here is your $500 check

No, every player wouldn't sign it. May only be a few but come on all 12,000 aren't signing it.

I’m sure that the company who constantly rakes their consumers over the coals for every penny hasn’t thought of this. I’m glad we’ve got you to figure it out, you should reach out to them

Just make the players be microtransactions. You can pay $1 to play as fields and he gets 25%. That would eliminate all haggling and still let me line some kid's pocket who unexpectedly blew up. You'd have plenty of nerds pony up for entire rosters.

Why? It could be a flat rate that each kid could opt in to. If not, they wouldn't be an available microtransaction.

No need to make it complicated or even legal for the purpose of this discussion

They have never been able to pay players hence the reason it’s never been done. Man that really racked my brain.

Then they don’t get paid. You have option to sign and get paid or don’t sign and don’t get paid.

I think you guys make this way too complicated. If the NCAA allows athletes to benefit then they can’t come back and sue anyone for not getting paid. You didn’t take the money they offered so they replaced your likeness with something close. EA could bend the rules and not even put names in the game just to make sure people couldn’t take them to court.

They don’t even need to pay the players to have a game. The reason there isn’t a game right now is because the schools pulled their agreements.

You can't use someone's likeness without their consent. "I offered them $500!" doesn't change that.

Being in a video game is probably the coolest thing most of these guys will ever get in their life. You’re telling me If EA says here is $insert amount, to be in the game 95% of them aren’t going to take it? You have to negotiate with a few superstars, but EA has some leverage, “look Trevor, Justin is only asking for $10k, we’re more than happy to make him the cover athlete”.

Also gotta remember, these kids aren’t going to have agents representing them and they will probably pay more to an attorney than they’ll make off of being in the game to negotiate. You may have a few attorneys that pop up and offer a flat rate that will negotiate minimal increases over the average player. Every team also probably has what 20-30 walk on players, I’m sure they’ll take a couple of bucks to be in the game since most of them probably won’t even get into a real game.

A lot will. But without a blanket licensing agreement (such as the NFLPA, NHLPA, etc) it's just nowhere near as simple as it's being made out to be especially with the legal precedent set by the cases that brought us here to this point. And then what is to stop an entire team (say..Clemson or Alabama) from uniting together to demand something bigger? And then why wouldn't other teams do the same for leverage? Nothing would stop Trevor Lawrence from holding out until the entire team was paid some sort of fair value. SEC schools would bring up how much more their teams are used than others and do the same. This is just after thinking about it for 10 seconds.

You guys all think these players are you and are desperate for a video game and are happy to get any $100 they can get without any self awareness of their actual worth.

The Player association’s handle video game licenses for all the major sports. It’s why the ncaa game is so difficult there’s no collective group of players to handle that process

I'm not saying they are still going to put their likeness into the game. To make it easy for you here we go. So they go to Justin Fields this year and say hey we will put you in the game as 6'2" Black QB who wears number 1 and the same style helmet you wear all you have to do is sign this contract and we cut you a check for $500, ( or what ever amount you want to us dbl). He says no I think I'm worth more, ok EA says you won't be in the game then. EA then proceeds to make OSU's QB a 5'9" white guy who wears number 4 and a different style helmet. How could he sue EA sports? There is no likeness of him on Ohio St. roster.

I'm not ignoring that fact, what was the reason the game went away in the first place? PLAYER likeness, not team likeness. The schools were still allowed in the game the problem was the players and how close they resembled the real player. If a whole team bans together and says we aren't taking the money we want more, ok you switch up every player on the team and their likeness, maybe #4 is now a 6'5" OL that is bald and wears every sweatband under the sun. Does that sound like any OL you know of on their roster. The schools would still get their cut of the licensing the players would miss out cause the players don't own the school logo or it's likeness.

It’s already been brought up that they don’t have the licenses for conferences or the NCAA anymore. They were withdrawn so yes they would need to obtain those or it wouldn’t be QB #1 or QB #4 on Ohio State, they’d be on some generic fake school like Central Ohio University or something

yeah firmly team backinblack on this one. schools were always in so theres no reason to expect that to change now. ea can make minimal offers to players for their likenesses and if the player says no ea can change enough physical characteristics to avoid lawsuit.

I never said they couldn’t get them, but I would think they would need a better plan than yours for negotiating with student-athletes before conference would be willing to do that

I don’t have an answer or better plan but I’m also not the one pretending it’s incredibly easy

Why would you have to negotiate? It's a take it or leave it agreement. You can either sign this contract and get paid or don't sign and you don't get paid. EA isn't stopping them from making any money else where. Just not from their game.

Say they make the game and sell 1.5million copies cause everyone has missed the game and is itching for it. It will probably be on the next gen. console so you up the price to $79.99. Thats $120 Mil, you give every player that signs this contract $500 and a free copy of the game. Thats $6Mil for player acquisition. Probably gonna cost you on average $500,000 per school for the rights, thats roughly $65Mil give or take depending on how many schools still have a football program. That leaves you roughly $70mil to develop and market the game. Then add on top micro transactions and they could make a killing.

the thing is ea will absolutely get it done. not having a game for so long isnt their fault, its the ncaa's. will it require some big deals to be made? yes. but they handle properties far greater than college football on a regular basis so i dont expect this to be a big deal.

the NCAA wouldn't have to negotiate more than 10-15 contracts a year..because that's the number of guys they'd give a shit about if they didn't sign the standard setup they gave everyone

Anyone they don't care about will get a generic player without their likeness in their place.
