Dual Monitor master race assemble. I set my wife up in a similar manner for her WFH (PC) workstation (2x24).It is nicer than her office setup which is laptop screen + 22". She has similar needs as you, lots of docs/pdf/word open. I also have dual monitor w/ dock for my home workstation (2x27). So much real estate for excel. She loves her PC workstation, but I wanted to see if her old macbook (personal device) could "dock" in too so she could run both personal and work from the same station, but I couldn't find anything when I did preliminary research on TB2 docks or TB2-USB-C converters/adapters. It is a 2014 MBP, with 2xThunderbolt 2 ports. I think the TB2 consideration will be 80% of the work. Like others said, any mouse/keyboard/monitor will do the trick, but you've got to figure out the connection type from the machine to the dock/hub, which can connect to endless peripherals/devices. LIke someone said, you can come in far under $1500, likely closer to $750 if you don't get premium keyboards/mouse. Say $350 for monitors (2x$175), $250 for dock, $150 for keyboard/mouse/cables. Here's some inspo to get you going: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/del...s19/apd/210-aroj/monitors-monitor-accessories Let us know what you find for TB2 docks.
RJF-GUMP Also, on the standards front w/r/t docks, Thunderbolt and USB have a big year in store of us, with new stuff arriving in late 2020/early 2021 with significant gains and simplicity coming, so hold off buying a PC/Mac this year if you care about that stuff. If it were me, I'd figure out how to make do with TB2 adapters/dongles for the dock, and use money in the future when that MB Air starts to seem underpowered etc.
View attachment 92915 I don't know much about monitors, but since March I've been working from home and using my back porch as my office. My outdoor TV has become my second monitor and it's working great. I sit about 6-8 ft away from it and it looks just as sharp as any monitor I've ever had. My TV is a 55" TCL four series that I got for around $300.
I switched to Verizon about 2 years ago, but I hate it and my contract is almost up. I also dropped my phone recently and screen is really cracked. Seems like a good time to get a new phone on some sign-up deal. What's the best cell provider for international? Please don't say Verizon.
So the only difference between the iphone SE and 11 is the 3 cameras, right? https://www.cnet.com/news/iphone-se-single-camera-no-iphone-11-pro-but-specs-surprisingly-close/
I just used a burner phone with a sim card that you can re-up on, but then again, technology has come a long ways in 10 years.
i added some shit but didn't want to recreate it for the screenshot lol. it's still pretty basic even tho it's expensive as fuck.
I am moving in July and would like to get a standing desk. I had been looking at Jarvis but this one seems solid too
Also I have an adapter that I've been using for a while that connects the thunderbolt 2 into any HDMI. I guess that's what you need right? A thunderbolt2 to HDMI connection?
At a previous job of mine I couldn’t get a second monitor because we were cutting expenses. Our executive suite all made multi millions that year.
Job i left everyone was issued two monitors without question. Showed up at the new job and no one has two monitors (“Ew, David”). FWIW our panel board operators had 10 monitors and it was information overload for 2 years until you get used to it. Some guy quits and I stole his monitor and set up a second one. The first two weeks everyone was making fun of me asking if I was running a flight simulator. 3 months later the whole building has two. I’m working from home with a single monitor and the the laptop screen up high as a second monitor and it’s not enough. I think I’m going unltrawide screen on the second monitor at home.
I've been making do with a portable monitor and my laptop screen for two months. It sucks but I've gotten used to it. At least work set me up with a desktop phone though!
Yep, that's a good start. There are tons of connectivity functions a dock should support. In loose order, think through these to influence what your dock needs to do. IE if you don't need to physically connect via ethernet, then you don't need a dock with that port. power (charge) display (monitor or monitors) e.g. the TB2 > HDMI adapter you already have, so check off that one. If you want dual monitors, you'd need another adapter/dock input (mice and keyboard) expandability (more USB ports for things like webcam, printer, flashdrive) sound (external speakers) data (ethernet) Here is my dock, FYI, a TB3 workhorse from Dell - https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-thunderbolt-dock-wd19tb/apd/210-arik/pc-accessories It's not the end of the world if you utilize a couple adapters or adapter + dock to get the job done. It is just really satisfying when the connection between the dock and the laptop is only one thing. When I said above it was a big year for standards, that's because we have new versions of TB and USB, TB4 and USB 4 which are set to essentially convene. Faster, simpler, and cheaper over the existing USB C connection type. Literally everyone wins. Here is another one (I only see two total on Amazon) that is rated every so slightly better than the one you linked (4.2 vs 4.0 stars). It doesn't hurt to search in the reviews for your exact MB model to see if anyone else has something meaningful to share. Amazon has good return policies, you could probably buy either of these and see if they meet your need, and return/re-evaluate if not. And going beyond docks, I would recommend to splurge on 2560x1440p monitors, which is the next step up from 1080p (and in between 1080p and 4k)
yah if you youtube search "ultimate docking station setup" and similar searches you'll see some super nerds and badass setups
