Assuming you mean chokes, I'm only against the ones that tighten really badly, and the ones that are pointed at the tips.
The rounded point pinch collar ones, like the Herm Sprenger style, are amazing and highly recommended by most trainers, including the one Pixel uses.

yeah, my little one that I use a retractable for is a scaredy-cat anyway and I have dropped it several times, he takes off and won't stop because he thinks something is chasing him.

Both of my pups walk in martingales.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with pinch/choke collars as long as people use them correctly. The problem is that most people put them on too low, too loose, and let the dog pull against it instead of keeping a loose leash and using the collar for a quick tug correction.

yes those are great too, we use those an all the dogs we send up to Maine, we have had several dogs that got out, slipped their collars and ran when they were being taken off the transport truck, once we switched to the Martingales it never happens.

What size of dog? Bully sticks, thicker quality ones, work well. Cheap ones don't work though so don't be getting all thrifty in your search.

Did you try boiling it in chicken broth?

And the digestion issues you mentioned are why bully sticks are a good bet. Way better for them in case they eat them than raw hides are. Raw hides are dangerous.

Amen to this, bully sticks are great, they don't last all that long depending on the dog but they are good for digestion.
Never ever do rawhides, they get all soggy and pliable and when the dogs swallow them they can cause blockages or get wrapped around their intestines. I know multiple dogs that have died this way, it's awful.

We've been trying Watson without the vest and on a stronger lead the last few days and three behavior has improved a bit. Still pulling but less since he's basically choking himself on the collar when he does now and not nearly as aggressive towards other dogs, although still very aware of them. The rescue talked to some previous fosters back in Texas who all said he's very good with other dogs, but that because it's so hot in Texas he might not have been walked on a lead very much by his previous owners so there's probably just a learning curve there.

We have a field next to us and woods out back and heavy deer in our area. Last year we started having our lawn treated to help out, but we have to check the dog everytime he comes back in. Thankfully he's got a light coat so they stick out pretty well.

If our situation was a bit different this def would have been a foster failure, but with me on shift work for apparently the rest of my life and my wife having to go back to the UK for a few months a year, any permanent dog we got would be alone for 13-ish hours on my work days (and doggie daycare isnt really an option when I'm on nights) so until I get a job that doesn't fist my sleep schedule, we figured fostering is the best option.

I'm not sure what I've done in life to get completely fucked over, but here we are.

Last August I put down my just shy of 10 years old American Bulldog due to an aggressive cancer
April I put down my small dog (12) from a long neurological battle that we could never figure out and eventually caused extreme pneumonia that he couldn't recover from

Today, my took my female American Bulldog, not yet 10, to the vet for a limp and she has some aggressive fucking bone cancer that needs immediate leg amputation and it'll probably spread to her lungs and will need chemo...and who the fuck knows.

In a fucking year I'm going to lose all 3 of my dogs. This fucking sucks. Two of them didn't even make it until 10.

    These decisions fucking suck.

So my option is to spend 5-7,000 and have a 50/50 chance she makes it a year. 25% chance she makes it two.

I've spent 5 on a knee surgery knowing I'd get 8 more years. 2,000 on some foot cancer that we got lasered off.

So now I'm looking at a leg amputation, which isnt thst bad but her remaining life in chemotherapy drugs.

Gie is thst a good quality of life. Fuck me

I came to post that Bonnie my black lab ~8 normally gives me a hug on command. Today she didn’t. I could tell she wanted to but looked at me as if to say, I’m in too much pain. She’s had TPLO 2 years ago. So I called the vet that did her surgery and he’s going to see her Monday.

I decided to go to her main vet and they did X-rays that show hips look good but a lot of bone spurs in the repaired knee. When you test the knee there’s a lot of popping. The vet was encouraging a scope but I’m going to the other vet on Monday to get his opinion. Hoping he says give that girl daily cosequin and rhymidil when she’s showing severe pain.

Anyone else felt with bone spurs and arthritis in your dog’s knees? What did you do?

My old lab and current lab would/will do this every time
I have to make sure the sprinklers are done running before I let her out each morning or I end up with muddy spots of no grass in front of which ever sprinkler heads she decides are hers that morning
