No simple syrup. Agave nectar or orange liqueur (Cointreau) The salted/tajin rim is a pretty key feature of the drink.

I made one with some shitty tequila and had to add some cointreau to it. Next one I made with good tequila, results were pleasant. Don't think it'll beat out my Transfusion's for summertime drink of choice though.
