TheFreak55 was this just something you personally noticed while browsing or did someone point this out to you? Just curious.
So, my wife had a flat today, and thus our plans changed for the evening. But...what Chinese places are open? I'm thinking especially in the city on East, but whatever is fine. I think Red Pearl, etc.
Kay just opened up the state essentially effective Monday. No number caps on gatherings as long as people stay 6 feet apart, restaurants at 50% capacity, barber shops and similar venues with restrictions, etc
Well let’s just hope there isn’t a bad second wave of this. Considering we did nothing during those two months to prepare to reopen the economy, if we do get hit bad a second time I don’t know if the fed wants to print that much money again so as a state just going to have to hope hospitals don’t get overrun
https://www.wsfa.com/2020/05/08/alabama-loosening-restrictions-more-businesses-allowed-reopen/ State health officer Dr. Harris updates on COVID-19 "A week ago, Dr. Harris said one reason why Alabama had not reopened was because data had not shown a two-week decline in cases. Currently, that’s still the case, and Harris even confirmed an increase. However, it’s not clear if that is because there is more testing or if there is a spike being seen in the disease." Ivey has previously stated she would look at “data, not a date” for reopening. When asked why she made the decision to loosen restrictions further, she essentially said she had to look out for the economy and contends Alabamians have been following the current health order.
I am as sick of this quarantine as anyone else but we are opening just to open. No data whatsoever has pointed to opening. As long as restaurants allow it I'm going to stick with curbside and as much as I want to go back to bars I don't think it makes sense. Outdoor areas at Trimtab and the like are going to be total shitshows.
The company I work for is working from home through June. Wife and I intend to continue on just like we have the past couple months.
nothing concrete but think my company is doing similar. And yes I’m not going to be the mine canary on a virus I have no natural immunity to
yea this is me. i wanna be at mom's basement more than anything but there's absolutely no reason we should be opening. just ivey predictably pleasing the base and the R legislature who was pissed she didn't open even sooner.
We need to be opening because a lot of people haven’t gotten paid in over a month. We’re not “just opening just to open”. People need to get paid.
Might be a short time payment that results in a really big setback and a lot of deaths which creates a longer period of time without people earning money. Think that's more likely than not.
This thread in general is probably filled with people who haven’t really had a ton of financial strain due to it and have been able to work from home. Plenty of people out there aren’t as lucky
I think if our new motto is "play at your own risk" we could have been doing that the whole time. We are no safer now than we were 2 months ago and we aren't testing. If we want to bury our head in the sand we shouldn't have closed to begin with.
I don’t disagree with this at all, but the fact we haven’t done shit locally or at the national level to protect the reopening of states is maddening and as mentioned above creates a tricky scenario if things go south.
This isn’t the politics thread so I don’t really wanna go down this path but we’ve created a false and unnecessary choice between “go back and allow a 9/11 of deaths every day” or “don’t go back and starve from lack of pay”
If only there were an entity that was supposed to prepare for scenarios like this and take care of people.
You’re wrong. We shut down society for a month and a half and put a major hault to the spread of the virus. Across the country, we’re seeing big declines in positive results for the last couple weeks. I’m not saying there won’t be flare ups and hot spots if we start opening things back up. Hopefully, with measures put in place like 50% capacity at bars, restaurants, and stores, as well as awareness of the virus/better hand hygiene, we can continue to flatten the curve. What i feel we can’t continue is having 20MM out of work. Mom and pop businesses are dying all around the country and need to be able to generate an income in a responsible manner.
I agree that something had to give for people to get financial relief, but Alabama had 498 new cases yesterday. https://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/covid19/
and I emphasize again, during that time while everyone was at home we haven’t done anything to make opening back up safer.
Yes, the "all around the country" argument is very disingenuous. I have friends in upstate New York in small towns that are pissed they're getting lumped in with NYC as regards the quarantine. I understand that. We have a different situation in the more populated areas of Alabama. Plus, there still AREN'T ANY DAMN TESTS AND PPE. I wouldn't mind everything opening up Monday, honestly, if we'd achieved that. But at this stage, we aren't following our own advice.
ALSO Automatic takeout is very legit. I got like everything on the menu tonight and it was orgasmic. I had to leave the room with the food in it so that I didn't eat it all.
498 new cases while only testing about 2-3k people per day. Nashville is at least setting up testing for anyone who wants it, regardless of symptoms and it is free. We are almost intentionally not testing so our cases don't increase much. I would feel a lot better about opening up and going out if myself, my friends and my co-workers could get tested.
Saw people loading chairs into a big Uhaul outside Bricktop's yesterday. Hopefully they were just removing some tables/chairs to reduce total capacity and not closing for good or anything.
Unpopular opinion: there are plenty of other restaurants in town that do a better job for a lot less money in every way. But I don't live dat expense account lyfe...
It has been a significant net increase in my house with the no daycare and commuting. We spent around $100 a week in gas for our commute. I'm fine with the quarantine and actually dreading having to go back to the office, but I would have a different mindset if my paycheck was affected.
parkside opened back up i really do feel for businesses even though i'm totally opposed to the idea of opening back up. like i recognize that they're kind of in a no win position because of the bungled response more broadly, but i also don't see myself wanting to actually be the one to patronize these places.
I think it's a good use of social media to question what their prevention measures are (at least if you're a semi-regular patron). I don't plan on visiting anywhere that doesn't explain things.
yea agreed. parkside's post was rather flippant whereas ghost train, to their credit, explained in pretty great length what they had in place to reduce spread. seems avondale did a good job with that as well.
