it sounds like the staff made the decision to start accepting commits even if the recruit hasn't visited. It might backfire on them down the road w/ decommits, especially Riley, but I'd rather have the commitment now with the kid going into an OV committed and making it an easier sell then turning a kid away and never even having a chance

The third round tight end probably full back we took out of Cinci was because of LaFleur's connection with Denbrock. You know, that one whole year they worked together.

He was such a lame hire, ND should’ve just put a full time recruiter in that spot, young guy

I had a II sub when he was hired. Loy wrote the generic background/intro article when this guy was hired and it was basically silent on him as a recruiter. So yeah if Loy couldn't find a way to spin it, my expectations are pretty low.

this certainly sounds promising regarding the grad transfer CB from NC State

Irish Illustrated and 247Sports mentioned North Carolina State cornerback Nick McCloud as a possibility over the past two weeks. From what I’ve gathered over the last 48 hours, Notre Dame is the team to beat. In speaking briefly with sources from multiple programs early Monday morning, the belief is that if Notre Dame wants him and can accept his commitment regarding medical and academic clearance, he’ll land with the Fighting Irish in the near future. From what I've gathered, McCloud is looking closely at Notre Dame Dame and Pittsburgh, but the feeling remains strong that he'll end up in South Bend if everything works out.

As expected, Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens has been leading the charge on this recruitment.

McCloud entered the Transfer Portal back in January. He missed nearly all of last season with a knee injury and the expectation is that he’ll take a redshirt for that year. He was named a team captain ahead of the 2019 football season and was widely regarded one of the top players on the Wolfpack defense and one of the more respected talents on the roster. One source said of McCloud, "He's a really good player when he's healthy." That is the key here. Coming off an injury, it'll be interesting to see how he bounces back. Bringing in a guy who could potentially be a starting cornerback is absolutely intriguing to the Notre Dame coaching staff.

    29COMMENTS
As a freshman in 2016, McCloud played in 10 games including special teams, and totaled 13 tackles and three pass breakups. He got in on 13 contests in 2017 and totaled 34 tackles, seven pass breakups and snagged his first interception. In 2018, McCloud played in 11 more games, which included 11 starts, and had 51 total tackles, eight pass breakups, a fumble recovery and two interceptions. This past fall, only playing in two games, McCloud had seven tackles and two pass breakups before missing the remainder of the season with a knee injury. He was hurt in the season-opener vs. East Carolina game and then missed the next seven games before returning against Clemson. However, he was extremely limited in that matchup before sitting out the rest of the season.

The 6-1, 190-pounder chose North Carolina State out of Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe high school. The former three-star recruit had scholarship offers from over 20 schools including Georgia Tech, East Carolina, Maryland, UMass, Miami (Ohio), Northwestern, UCLA, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and others.

Our DB is looking pretty darn good right now assuming everyone is healthy

A trio of Hamilton, Pryor, and Houston at Safety is a pretty big bump in athleticism and could be elite if Houston can take the next step

    McCloud - boundary
Crawford - Nickel, his natural position
Bracy - field, also his natural position

That's a pretty darn good trio at CB to go with safeties. I think we all know what we are going to get at LB (with a possible All American season from JOK to boot), and if Daelin can stay healthy, I think the defense can take a pretty decent sized step up next year.

I actually think the best part about next year is that they will have 4 games to get comfortable/experience before having to play any big time games where a mistake can cost them the game (regarding the DBs). This is huge for us!

Jamie U made the comparison of McCloud to Nick Watkins (Watkins left to play his 5th year elsewhere) and I think that's a very good one when looking at build/experience levels. Having Nick Watkins in 2018 would have been a big lift when Julian Love went down against Clemson

In the past we've fibbed the numerator, now we just take the denominator down to 20k capacity and sellouts are much easier to come by

As heartwarming as that is, my mind instantly goes right to my disdain for Oxford townies.

So, Miami University is a pretty good school, but IIRC anyone that graduates from Talawanda (an awful high school) is accepted into Miami. Now a lot of them are children of faculty and University staff so they are fine, but the rest are mostly trash.

That's cool, but isn't "giving emergency financial aid for students during a global pandemic" what having a $10 billion endowment is for? Seems a bit odd to sit on all that money just to hit up alums during this.

Not sitting on the endowments. Pretty much any endowment that isn’t restricted is being used for student financial aid, but the vast majority of endowments (that make up “the endowment”) are restricted for specific purposes and we legally aren’t allowed to use them for other uses.

Speaking from my personal experience right now, within the college of science, we are working tirelessly to explore any and every option to utilize our endowed funds, but some are so restricted, there’s nothing the university can do.
