Got Kellanved's Reach in the mail the other day. Frankly, I had forgotten it was even coming. A nice surprise
Soo I started the book one audiobook and I’m in like chapter three and I have no idea what’s going on or who these people are Some dude was bound to a doll?
Yeah Quick Ben bound Hairlock’s soul to a doll after Tayschrenn’s attack on Anomander Rake (and his flying mountain fortress known as Moon’s Spawn) failed spectacularly. There was another name for the type of doll Quick Ben used but it isn’t coming to me right now.
I loved reading these posts after most chapters, especially those that left me confused in the beginning. Bill Capossere writes a quick summary of the chapter and then gives his thoughts. No spoilers although he has read the whole series before so he will point out important parts to remember. Amanda Rutter then comments and she has never read before so it’s fun to see that she is just as lost as you are. https://www.tor.com/features/series/malazan-reread-of-the-fallen/
Gonna have to read that link. Just got to the next chapter/book thing and it seems like a whole new cast of characters. I assume/hope everything will intertwine later on. Also have a hard time keeping track of dates when listening to an audiobook so I don’t have a sense of the scale of time.
Keeping track of dates is an effort in futility. Yes everything ties in. One of, if not the, most rewarding series out there, just got to tough out the steep learning curve
Just keep listening no matter how lost you get, eventually the language starts to make sense and it’s all worth it.
It’s kinda starting to come together. Just got to the part where the adjunct meets tattersail at the dinner When I can keep things straight, it’s really compelling
I finished Kellanved’s Reach a few days ago. It was my least favorite of the Path to Ascendancy books but it was still a lot of fun. Didn’t seem like the end of a trilogy, would be shocked if he didn’t write more book in this side series.
I haven't read a single book outside the main 10, not sure I will either. Series is fine as is, don't really want it to get ruined/altered in my brain
Finished Gardens of the Moon, starting Deadhouse Gates. This prologue is fucking brutal, some chick just getting her head sawed off in a public square.
This is arguably the best book in the series, but the whole thing is fucking brutal. You get a ton of new characters so have fun learning a whole new cast. Get used to it happens in every book. What did you think about Gardens?
pretty good, hard to keep track of every character since i multi task with audiobooks. definitely want to find out more about the world.
I got halfway through and the book fell behind my dresser and got stuck between the wall. Currently devising a way to rescue it
On to book 3. Feels good to be reunited with the characters from book 1. I didn’t connect as much with the book 2 characters.
Midnight Tides was a struggle for me. It was not only super confusing, but I wasn’t interested in a lot of the characters. The Edur backstory was pretty cool, but man did I not want to stray from the previous storylines of the other books. Obviously all of these books build this massive world, and I was happy I finished it. On to The Bonehunters.
I understand this, but saying you weren't interested in Tehol and Bugg is just ridiculous. They are amazing.
The edur come off as interesting as mud in midnight tides aside from questionably Rhulad. Bugg and Tehol are amazing
Prologue and first two chapters are on TOR. https://www.tor.com/2021/06/08/excerpts-steven-erikson-malazan-the-god-is-not-willing-chapter-two/
