A local "restaurant" opened back up yesterday and evidently it was a shitshow. It was overly crowded and understaffed and people ignored all distancing and kept running to the bar to get drinks, which aren't allowed. I heard another, let's call them dive restaurants advertised $1 pitchers on social media. My only upside is that any outbreak from these places are bars where the regulars are Trump supporters. It's basically every article you've seen about people who yell about being told to wear masks rolled into one. I'm just fairly certain Indiana is about to get blasted because I guarantee this happens all over the state.
Sadly, this is exactly how I feel. As the country begins the phases of the re-opening process, and we've passed 80K dead, and 1.36mill cases total... Embarrassing, and sad times ahead I'm afraid..
This is C19 related, so kind of appropriate for this thread. This is $4.5 Billion he wants to withdraw. One stated reason- - National Security. Personally I think the $10s of Millions owed by Trump businesses to the Bank of China are more of a threat to National Security...but that’s just me. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-orders-federal-retirement-money-001441546.html
If this kicks back off, I think that'll be the nail in the coffin for any hopes of maintaining social distancing.
It’s impossible to tell people to go back once you’ve let them loose. Even if this spikes and we get near a quarter to half a million dead it will not matter to them because they don’t want to eat Outback at their kitchen table.
Past what point? I think social distancing can work if everyone is properly prepared and took it seriously. That’s unlikely to happen in many places though
I asked in the info thread, but was the Japanese antibody test ever discussed in here? https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.26.20079822v1.full.pdf Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional serologic testing for SARS-CoV-2 antibody using 1,000 samples from patients at outpatient settings who visited the clinic from March 31 to April 7, 2020, stratified by the decade of age and sex. Results: There were 33 positive IgG among 1,000 serum samples (3.3%, 95%CI: 2.3-4.6%). By applying this figure to the census of Kobe City (population: 1,518,870), it is estimated that the number of people with positive IgG be 50,123 (95%CI: 34,934-69,868). Age and sex adjusted prevalence of positivity was calculated 2.7% (95%CI: 1.8-3.9%), and the estimated number of people with positive IgG was 40,999 (95%CI: 27,333-59,221). Japan has reported 633 deaths which doesn't make any sense if that number is anywhere close to true.
in texas for example, there’s no going back to strict social distancing measures people as a whole are too stupid, and i’m sure actual riots would start if they tried
If you get NYC like events in a couple of major cities, or NYC like events in a bunch of smaller cities, you'll see a pull back.
it’s not about whether the cities or states would want to do it. of course they would, but the people won’t allow it now. i can tell just walking around dallas
The current data indicates that the VAST majority are still staying at home. When they go out most practice distancing and a significant portion wear face coverings. I believe this can continue. The bigger test will come when employees are forced to return to workplaces that have inadequate protections.
If Dallas had 12,000 deaths in a month people would be hiding. People are being bold because they aren't seeing mass casualties in their community.
You sweet summer child. I always wonder if you believe what you type or just post the first thought you have? Unless those 12k deaths were direct relatives of people opposed to people who don't care, like God forbid a brown person, that would be the cost of doing business. The goddamn cripple governor of the state said as much.
Yeah, I live in red state SC and definitely don't have the impression we've passed the point people are taking it seriously
Based on the amounts of masks I'm seeing and the reports of people being out, I also live in a state full of dumbasses.
even Colorado, a generally smart and progressive state, still has issues like the Castle Rock restaurant
tbh I don't think you've heard of the cities Boulder and Fort Collins. Yes, rural Colorado, like rural Oregon or rural California, are full of GOP jabronis
It is kinda wonderful. Even the trash population in my state are buying into wearing masks. When I was at grocery shopping last week, one dude walked in without a mask and no less then three of the most Boston townie assholes (picture Casey affleck from the SNL dunkin skit) I have ever seen started calling him various forms of “douchebag” and/or “yuppie asshole”
I dunno Texans are a special breed of arrogant. Where I live in the city of Houston I see all kinds of social distancing and people wearing masks. Where I work outside of the city of Houston it was all a hoax to undermine Trump and people would lick gas pump handles if they knew it would piss off the libs. Think I posted last week but I had to drive through the town I work in on Friday to get home and all the restaurants were packed. Inside the loop is different. It really boils down to people want to go sit in a restaurant for some reason and not just pick it up and take it home with them. It’s mind blowing people are going to get sick and die because they want to go out to eat.
I have argued repeatedly that we don’t have enough testing but no testing for symptomatic patients in hospitals? We have enough tests nationally for that group at least so that has to be a supply chain issue of getting tests to the right places. That looks even worse when the White House burns through hundreds of tests a day for people that don’t have symptoms.
Fauci testifying live. He just started talking. Steamed on YouTube by a few news channels. May also be on tv
What would happen if the MLB or NBA commissioner called out Trump for lack of tests? We want to come back in July, but as of right now, there is no way we can obtain a fair share of tests to manage the entire league for a shortened season? He'd shit his pants.
I just don't get this. Their entire Fox News anchors mock the people taking precautions, yet they can't even get into the office. Are they blasting their own bosses? (Again, I know the real reason. Appeal to their audience)
you don't understand Fox News being deceitful and carrying water for the President while their rich anchors and staff do the exact opposite?
I'm also of the mind-frame that those who want the country to open up, won't change their mind until somebody in their inner circle tests positive and suffers from it.
