I know this is an entirely separate conversation but needing almost $9M to educate less than 200 students seems less than great
Perhaps I’m being a bit naive here so apologies for the basic question, but what’s the point in those endowed funds if their use is so restricted? It’s like having a bank account with tons of money you have no access to.
They’re all designed to protect the principle and limit what percentage of the earned interest can be used. The total endowment may be in the billions but what’s actually accessible is FAR less. ISP can further restrict how it’s allocated.
I've volunteered to take a 25% cut in salary. I was told that they will be able to give full scholarships to at least a half dozen students because of it.
ND is what? 70k a year now? I'm still mad I didn't get in and force my dad to pay a fuck ton for school.
it would more be like "i was given money from a friend but i'm legally bound to use it only for ice cold beer and if i were to use it on rent without their permission, i would be in serious trouble" it is frustrating having so much tied up, but the University seeks out endowed gifts in areas where they're needed. for example, the university has hundreds of endowed funds that support undergraduate and graduate summer research. every year these support hundreds of students across the university so they can do research. it's an area of need and provides a great service to hundreds of students, but even though most summer research initiatives have been canceled this summer, we can't take the "unused" funds and support a student in the fall via financial aid. but, at the same time, when the gifts were received however long ago, we took the unrestricted funding that had previously used to support x-number of undergrads/grad students doing summer research, and reallocated it to financial aid, or a salary line to hire a staff member, or some other area of highest need for the University. we do the same things with "endowed professors" or "endowed coaches" or whatever
FYI - ND to announce plans for 2nd half of summer on Friday (unless something has changed I'm not aware of). will be a big indicator in terms of what we're thinking about the start of football
Fun watch I'd love for a "from the vault" type thing with the tourney runs we've had, Those games are tough to find.
That makes me feel a touch better. The overall optics just suck anytime you hear someone who had a pretty successful NFL career (or better) that wanted an ND offer and didn’t get one. We complain constantly about how tough it is to get elite guys to ND from a recruiting standpoint, but there also have been plenty that fell through the cracks.
Even though Quinn washed out in the pros, I don't know if Cutler would have been any better in college. Quinn's timing also was more aligned with the talent on the roster. Cutler was drafted in 2006 and we would have had to break in a new QB that year. Add in that they fall on opposite sides of the spectrum as far as likability and this one we can live with. Point taken on guys like this though.
Cutler was in the 01 class: ND didn't sign any QB's in that class: https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Season/2001-Football/Commits/ However, the year before, we signed Holiday, Jared Clark (I think we came in as a QB) and LoVecchio: https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Season/2000-Football/Commits/
I dunno how many people are familiar with TRICCO on the rivals or 247 boards but he'd always write posts like (THIS) talking about a players' (TRAITS) And i hated him but ate up every post he had cuz i am a masochist and he posted a tape of Keuchly in HS before he went to BC and was like this guy has good (NOT GREAT) closing ability, sure (NOT SOUND) tackling ability and i watched the tape and was like this guy is pretty damn good actually, too bad for this Luke fella we got a 4 star by the name of...Dan Fox
he is on the driskell site, he Doesn’t like any of the new Offer for the running Backs, they are all GOOD not great and Should not have been offered by nd.
That season (‘02 maybe) that he and Shane Walton dominated and had infinity INTs was fun to watch. Unfortunately it was with a Willingham offense.
What ever happened to Dame Fan (or Dome Fan?) the weird jacked dude in like Columbus (?) who always invited the players over for cookouts and shit like that who always claimed he knew we were gonna get players and had inside info? I was almost positive we were gonna get some sanctions related to that guy.
He still hosts a bunch of random rivals posters at his home for weird weekend trips. I know this because a couple Rivals ND posters friended me on Facebook and I still see their updates.
Well, I’m friends with him on Facebook and have been for years somehow, so I see his shenanigans daily.
laxjoe sorry your weekend got messed up man. I don’t want to get to personal but is the main event still a go as scheduled or did you postpone it?
