I will be going up to Johnson City(childhood friend lives up there) a lot and fishing in a boat for all species. On Norman, family has a house on the lake and it's about 4-5 houses from the back of a cove that is a wetlands. So I will kayak fish that. I've also got a pond basically in my backyard. I plan to wear that thing out as soon as we move in.
I watch a lot of fishing channels on YouTube, most of which I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I watch. What are some of the better ones you guys watch?
The goat show is on the Hells Bay website: https://www.hellsbayboatworks.com/videos/walkers-cay-chronicles/ Watch a lot of stuff on waypoint. Silver Kings(first few seasons were much better) flats class is alright. These are all good https://worldangling.com/videos-2/ I'll watch stuff on TV as background noise, but most of it isn't any good
Uncut Angling is the GOAT Several other channels related to Uncut Angling (Fish Frostbite, Jay Siemens, Fishing Geeks, Taro Murata) Scott Martin (especially for his tournament vlogs) In-Depth Outdoors Marling Baits (baitmaker and is super enjoyable) I'll watch occasional Jon B stuff if it's travel related but most of those guys are jerkoffs Lindner's Angling Edge Srs Uncut Angling is the best and if you haven't watched the 39 hours series what are you doing with your life
I like Jon B but that wanna be bro lingo is awful. I like one of the guys something pig patrol. He catches shit fish but he was kayak fishing one time while some chick was backing her jeep into the water to get jet skis off the trailer. She didn't put it in park and got out. The jeep went in and he had the whole thing on film. That earned a click to subscribe.
If you like Pig Patrol, watch Milliken Fishing. He's probably my favorite. I also enjoy SBFishingtv. Out of the googan bros, the only one I can really watch these days is Lake Fork Guy.
Ha, yea him and dad? I watch both. Milliken is awesome and maybe my favorite too. I also like Richard Gene because well he's fucking weird, smokes Pall Malls and is just an old school gump fisherman. The little Asian dude in the kayak is usually pretty good.
I can't stand Milliken but he fishes lakes I fish and catches bigguns so I watch him quite a bit. Always trying to swipe tips from him, actually.
What don't you like about him? He's like the anti googan bro, and is a hell of a fisherman. He also got me into 6th Sense stuff, which is awesome.
You don't like him? He's huge Husk fan and named his newborn son Osborne I like his videos a lot. Also crazy how he almost died a couple years ago.
Yea, didn't he basically call them all out one time? I actually like Kickintheirbass some times too. He fishes a lot spots I used to around Savannah and Jax
He's a great fisherman but seems like the type of dude who wears flat brim hats and would ride motocross in another life and that's not my type of guy. Just a personal preference.
Yeah he hates them. He used to fish with FLAIR back in the day and claims he used a bunch of 6th Sense samples to help create googan baits or something.
I'm stealing his deep boulder technique on one of the lakes they catch all those pig smallies though. I've fished that lake twice and gotten skunked twice. Wish he wouldn't be showing all the features of those lakes. There's one that he shows that i caught a shit ton of big fish on last spring with a really obvious feature and it's like, dude, come on.
But he shows how South Dakota is a legit fishing spot. Super underrated by people not from the region.
Bamabass is cool if you like watching somebody catch giant bass out of what is pretty clearly a private lake. He also has pet bass in a pond he had installed in his back yard that leads to some pretty cool content.
I mentioned this in the RTT a while back but those lakes in SD that Milliken is fishing didn't exist 30 years ago but aren't man made. There are 20+ foot deep lakes that were pastures or tiny farm ponds in the early 90s and it's all from higher than normal seasonal rain and snow. It's insane.
not a fan of split grips i use the Clarus rods for throwing soft plastics teramar XH for my tarpon spinners
Ive never really used split grips but figured it might be worth a try. I don't know if its just being bored from being stuck at home but I also had the thought, I almost never use a bait caster thats what I should get this time around.
I use a few split grips because it saves your arm after working a twitch or jerk bait all day - this is on a baitcaster and split grips are just a personal preference thing. More importantly, though, is to get the right rod (flex, action, length) for how you’re fishing.
George Daniel has been posting instructional clips for the PSU fly fishing class on youtube. mostly euronymphing tactics and they are amazing. Meateater - the Das Boat stuff is awesome, really cool idea. The New Fly Fisher - tons of videos and they work with Rosenbauer and a few of the Orvis instructors on tactics. Bill Dance - will never get tired of watching Bill
Anyone looking for something to watch, the 2019 fly fishing film tour movie is on rental for $5, including some giveaways. https://flyfilmtour.com/blog/2019-f3t-special-edition-release/
i used a march brown emerger or nymph pattern above that, but only caught horny heads, and dace on it. i use the Pat's almost in spite of whatever is hatching it seems.
Went fishing on Lake Jocassee with my family. Caught a lot of brim and my wife caught a nice 4 lb redeye bass. Had a fish fry tonight. Hoping to get to go trout fishing for the first time this year this week.
been following all these redeye guys i. the gram lately. gonna fuck around and fall in a wiki-hole reading about the bass subspecies. specifically want to find out what separates them geographically and their reach.
delayed harvest just lifted this weekend in SC. this morning in an SC trout fishing group a guy posted a pic of 20+ trout he and his buddy caught using corn and a cast net.
his post is deleted now, but he said he thought the governor got rid of fish limits because of Covid. which I think is true for some states and species.
Well, that would be good to know for when I go. Nothing on the DNR website, just information on boating restrictions.
as annoyed as i get over people fishing that way, truthfully the SC trout rivers are fucked once June hits. the chattooga headwaters, whitewater river, and lower saluda are the only one's that stay cool enough to avoid trout kills in the summer.
the upper portion near whetstone rd may be okay, but cassidy bridge and the hell hole the water is usually 70+ degrees by July. before i die on my snobby fly angler hill, you are totally within your right to fish and keep your limit. our state will restock the river and there are hold over fish year to year, so surely the temps are good in stretches of the river. i don’t fish for food, so i tend to avoid those rivers during the summer when they are less likely to survive the catching process. it is also worth noting that the brown trout bred at the Oconee hatchery have shown to be heartier in warmer temps than anywhere else on record. Oconee has sold eggs and milk to hatcheries in other states the past years based on these findings.
I usually go to Blackwell Bridge or the 28 bridge on the Chattooga. But I usually keep the keepers and bring them back for supper.
Those were from above the 28 bridge on the Chattooga. I've gotten some good ones on the Chauga, but probably not as nice as those.
