obviously things change quickly now but outside of caleb and day’ron we should have this class for at least 3 years. and even day’ron is likely 2 years
if you can't tell I'm a little bored right now Puff doesn't seem to have any decent videos from this year so I'm watching his Jr year highlights and something just occurred to me noticing his gait while on the move, he's basically the lovechild of Paige and Henson. Obviously the stroke and floater pop out, but the way he covers so much ground with each stride and just his lower body movements attacking the basket in general remind me of Henson, even looks to have that baby hook at this point.
tough to gleam much from this year for him. that school he went to had like 3 different coaches. was bad for his growth so i would honestly expect kerwin to get more minutes as a freshman than him while he makes up for a lost year
Was inspired by shig to look through our b-ball recruiting class because I haven’t really paid a ton of attention to them. Definitely getting pretty excited and really like the Day’Ron stuff I’ve seen. As part of this, I was looking through the overall 2020 class and was shocked to see that Cade Cunningham ended up at Oklahoma State. I obviously don’t have all the background/story there but I know we were in on him pretty hard at one point and he’s apparently the #1 kid in the country. OSU seems like an odd move.
Gotcha - kind of surprised we recruited him if that was the case. Usually we steer clear of the kids who have family/advisors who are obviously looking for handouts. Genuinely believe this too; if you look at the kind of guys Kentucky/Kansas have recruited over the past 15 years, we are almost never in on them.
it was clear why they hired him but it’s not that egregious. his brother was an assistant at tulane before this i believe. clearly he got hired because of his brother but it’s not like he was really unqualified
don't know about next but we're apparently in the driver's seat his time frame seems to have moved up but still nobody knows when he's announcing, at least from what I've seen
https://goheels.com/news/2020/5/4/football-lucas-opportunity-excites-smith-family.aspx So this is pretty cool. Largest donation in Carolina athletics history. Funds are earmarked for: Enabling Mack Brown's assistant coaches to receive competitive salaries, Kenan Football Center facility improvements and the football operating endowment. They're naming the field after him.
When Mack was hired, I was pretty optimistic that he'd at least reenergize the fan base and recruiting would pick up, leaving the program in a better state for whoever came next. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine just how drastically he'd improve both of those aspects in such a short period of time.
I definitely underestimated how energetic and engaged he would be in this role. I think I also underestimated just how bad the Texas job is right now (for reasons I fully don’t understand).
yeah i know mack at texas ended poorly but he was a colt mccoy injury away from winning two titles with them which is not remotely feasible there anytime soon as things stand currently. he made that program great
Let’s not overstate that Colt injury. They weren’t overwhelming favorites in that game or anything (in fact 4 pt underdogs I think). But generally I agree with the sentiment. Even playing for those two titles and beating “the greatest CFB team ever” is a hell of a run given what came on either side of his tenure.
did have a moment of I've we've made a huge mistake .gif for that hour or so that Greg Robinson was announced as our DC, very proud of the fan backlash nixing that one
carolina insider has been posting the radio calls of big games recently. just listened to the gio return and now the 05 duke game. jones seems like a good dude and he’s not bad but man the difference between jones and woody is just stark. i suppose if says more about how great woody was. he trounces jones (and i would bet jones would tell you the same)
Jones' voice just annoys the fuck out of me. he needs to start smoking a couple packs a day and then maybe I'll give him another listen.
he’s actually much more enjoyable on the podcast albeit very cheesy. but yeah he’s just really stiff and awkward on the call
KBJ underwent surgery after injuring himself working out, the presumption being it's related to his achilles /UNC football
I can't remember the Heels ever losing a triad parent's late spring wedding anniversary commitment. Have to feel good about this one.
some guy started a catch all thread for Grimes news btw, this is all the latest stuff Spoiler 5/11/2020 - Announced he will cut his list to a top 3 on May 31st. 5/12/2020 - BrianDohn on Penn State board: "When I set out to write this piece, I thought the top three would be UNC, Georgia and either Penn State, Texas A&M or Ohio State. ...When I finished the reporting aspect of it, the only thing I knew for sure was UNC would be on the list." 5/12/2020 - Brian Donn on Georgia board in response to a question regarding if Grimes will last until December without committing: "No" 5/12/2020 - Brian Dohn on Inside Carolina: "I am not buying the travel time thing when it comes to Georgia but I think UNC has the most momentum right now." Don Callahan in Weekly Scoop: "The five-star cornerback's recruitment has been and will continue to be susceptible to twists and turns, but every source we spoke to fully expects UNC to make the cut." "Furthermore, those sources are beginning to envision the Heels as the eventual victor in this recruitment." "As for the other two spots, two very reliable sources predict Georgia, believed to be UNC's biggest threat, will miss the cut" Insiders: Heels_fan530: "I’m glad Don is hearing the same thing I am about Grimes. Our coaches feel like we land this kid."
ACCN's showing our NIT semifinal against Rhode Island, it's wild seeing Larry Drew basically carry us down the stretch here
i would like to see the miss st nit game again. that shot ld2 hit over varnardo to win it was absurd. still remember exactly where i was for that for some reason
He seems pretty plugged in when it comes to UNC's chances with a recruit, I'd take info about where other programs stand like that with a grain of salt though
Yea, I figured that much. Rusty put out today that he expects UGA to be in it. Our guys are worthless 90% of the time. They will only work when a poster sees bad shit in another teams site and asks them about it.
FWIW, Deana King, from the Heels Rivals site, who also runs the NC Prep site and is pretty plugged in to the NC (not as much Va) prep scene projects UNC, UGa and tOSU for Grimes.
it's cool getting highlight videos made of players on our team again, aren't even a bunch of filler plays in here, just 4 minutes of bombs
I went through this phase of quarantine about a month ago. Brown's highlights are gangbusters. Also check out Javante Williams high school tape; man among boys stuff. This guy is kind of annoying but it's 16 minutes of bomb plays:
Wonder what happened to Mike Mason after he got kicked out. Him and Bowman damn. Fred Sparkman I remember haha
Went to some small school in Tennessee and was never heard from again Man what a bust of a class that was
Isiah "Puff" Thomas Who could have ever guessed that these kids wouldn't make it? But they were key in the biggest win in program history.
I remember being so pumped for Terry Hunter after looking like an absolute monster during his limited snaps against Miami, which I think may have actually been his first game, and then dude just fell off the face of the earth, don't think he ever played football again after that year
JJ Jones announces for us a day early first time watching his film, probably doesn't have the same top gear, but reminds me a lot of Dwight Jones
