Crazy how people say "Superman can't be done on film" and fucking Marvel did it ten times. Virtuous, principled, a bit arcane, nostalgic, virtually indestructible, someone to aspire to. That's Supes and that's Cap.
Except Cap is vulnerable and Superman is indestructible, I think it can be done if the studio doesn’t micromanage it to death.
Superman can be plenty vulnerable given the right opponent and/or conditions. His movies just need more creativity
sure, but the chase is after the bombing. Also, this is pre Black Panther. They introduced themselves, but what advantage would Zemo think he’s getting from a presumed poor farming country’s prince (at that time)?
Even though society doesn't know how technologically advanced Wakanda is, it is known that's where the strongest metal on Earth is located. And the vibranium Ultron used that ended up killing many Sokovians was stolen from there. So he probably holds Wakanda a bit accountable for his family being dead.
thats a good point. Hadn’t thought about it that way. It did feel like he might be targeting T’chaka. Wu migh5 be right that the line to Panther was more about being dutiful and relating to him. It just seems that the Russos don’t waste dialogue. Their movies are very tight. Things are interwoven and everything seems to really mean something. Maybe it causes me to look to closely into it.
they’re outriders, not worthy of being called rodents a rodent is what saved half of all life in the universe by turning on the mobile quantum tunnel in Luis’ van
Zemo didn't care who he actually killed, the point was bombing the UN period to flush out Bucky, him killing T'Chaka was probably the worst case scenario for him since it got T'Challa involved in the entire thing.
Funny how much of the casting was just risk after risk. Especially the Big 3. Feige is a magician. RDJ (who literally couldn’t get insured), Chris Evans (who had just got done underwhelming as the Human Torch), and Hemsworth/Hiddleston as mentioned above.
Gunn said Pratt was all the casting director. Glenn Howerton was going to be Gunn's Star-Lord choice, but said the casting director kept pushing him to do a reading with Pratt and rest is history. I still hope Feige can find a good role for Howerton.
To be fair, Hemsworth was well on his way to being ruined until they realized they've been portraying Thor wrong for nearly his entire trilogy.
His character is plenty solid in Thor 1, outside of bleaching his eyebrows. Quite some good moments where you see Hemsworth's comedic acting gifts. Dark World was a whole bunch of meh. And I feel Taika/Russos/Markus/McFeely took this from AoU and ran with it
I honestly think it might have been a perfect storm type situation. Hemsworth showed hints of his comedic side in AoU, and then he was pretty much widely regarded as the funniest character in the Ghostbusters movie. Bring in a genius comedic director like Taika to run with it, and you have the brilliance that is Ragnarok.
Pretty much, when he was cast as Thor, nobody knew much of anything about Hemsworth, let alone the fact that he was funny, the direction of Thor 1 was setting up to portray him with a Shakespearean character arc for his trilogy.
Being the lovable idiot on Parks and Rec, while great, does not make him a star. I love the show but I don’t think coming off that any of them would be considered stars
Pratt had the comedic muscle already, but he was flabby Andy Dwyer. And he went from TV to Movie star with the quickness. Hit the gym and boom! Hemsworth was sleeping on his manager's couch here in the US, then got Star Trek. Only the opening but it was enough for folks to know he's a good looking stud, Australian and can act somewhat(all they needed was 'somewhat'). His manager at the time was also a beast and helped get Thor. Evans was doing a number of projects, mostly Indies which he still does, and I honestly can't think of another actor who could have pulled off Cap like he did.
Ruined is a bad word choice considering the other work he was getting outside of the Thor character. I would say his talents were being wasted in the three movie stretch of A1 - Thor2 - AoU. Thor1 is good and he's really good in it. Even in the three movies where his character was boring, he and Hiddleston were never the issue. If anything, Hiddleston was almost too good in Dark World because it made no one want to watch the actual villain.
He's a bit too goofy to pull it off, I think. But who knows, the MCU has taken a lot of actors I didn't think were right and made them perfect for their role. Mr. Fantastic (and the whole property) is a really tough nut to crack. It's very fine line between cheesy and serious
I think he’s capable of doing it, James Gunn is in charge of overseeing all the Marvel space movies and I can see him sticking with a more lighthearted tone even for F4.
Taika was the one who came up with the Thor and Darryl shorts wasn’t he? That’s when he started to shine.
And on the subject of Avengers characters needing to be saved, let's not pretend Cap didn't need the same thing from the Russo bros. in Winter Soldier. Cap1 was good, but that character was bad in Avengers and Whedon didn't do much better in AoU even after Winter Solder. The Russo bros. made him a great character.
I bet they could do well with Howerton. Similarly excited to see how they turn goofy Kumail Nanjiani into a (maybe serious?) Marvel character.
Agree completely. Cap in that movie knocks it down a notch for me. The costume (big red gloves) and fight with Loki are cringeworthy.
yea.. not going to lie, I didn't care for CA1 when it came out. After a rewatch I enjoyed it, maybe 2... but I truly appreciated Evans after WS. That writing was fantastic and overall a well done movie. Russo Bros took MCU to another level
