I would guess breakouts in apartment complexes could be attributed to droplet exposure? I know this transmission risk overall is low but if you are repeatedly touching the same infected door handles and surfaces at traffic bottlenecks that are being reinfected by the same folks over and over again chances go up?
Unless you’re talking a place like Italy or Spain it’s hard to say because in the US we never had a full shut down order. So a break out could have nothing with the apartment living and people getting at work or just going out.
I was telling my buddy (big Trump idiot) so wearing a mask is media driven panic. Black Democrat president elected... They gon terk err gunz!
I'm pages behind but the United States is well along this path, but we cannot keep our hegemony strangle on the western world and will slowly lose our grasp of dominance if history is accurate. More than likely China is currently what the US experienced around WW2. https://www.versobooks.com/books/359-the-long-twentieth-century
i remember reading a huge piece probably a decade ago about how this century was going to be the china century as the 20th was the US century and thinking it was a little silly ten years later i'm like "yeah that was probably extremely right"
I listen to the Trillbillies episode where they took a deep dive into this book. While it may be incorrect, it's scary how this pattern has been repeated throughout history and it seems that the United States is very much along this timeline.
i was young and way less educated globally (still dumb), also china had only telegraphed most their version of global imperialism. now they're accomplished a lot of it while advancing themselves domestically to an obscene degree. still had some MERICA #1 in me too
China has raised millions out of poverty (through lots of genocide and authoritarianism). They have a huge emerging middle class, ours is shrinking. They’re setting up Africa to be a manufacturing base for cheap slave labor to sell goods to their middle class. Just how we use China now If we had any foresight, we’d be dumping a shitload of humanitarian and infrastructure projects into Africa to prevent Chinas influence. But we won’t even do that in our own country. US is pretty fucked in another 30 years or so, imo
A big point of what the book says is that countries emerging and going through a period where they extract surplus from manual labor tend to evolve and become more financial exporters where other countries produce manual labor. This cycle has repeated for many centuries and it appears to be something that we are well along the path of.
our remaining super power is largely that everyone wants to come here and we're still extremely wealthy per capita, can replace the diminished birth rate with immigration and continue growth. was a big piece I think in Vox that basically Americas 21st century should be 1 billion americans. (looked it up, Yglesias book coming soon, must have just read the pieces that led to it) oh, whats that, immigration restrictionism is really popular and aggressively being achieved? well shit
the united states owned like half of the world's wealth at the end of the second world war. that probably won't be duplicated. but yeah, empires eventually decline. and something tells me that we won't take that decline as well as great britain did.
China is also dumping money into South America. The foundation of their influence is growing while shitheels in Iowa diners hoot about America first. when you consider the resources China is pouring into anti-access defense technology, we will likely be fucked in all of our lifetimes. But hey, remember when HUSSEIN wore a tan suit?
Mannn. These videos aren’t funny... it’s legitimately sad as shit that a large portion of Americans have been brainwashed to think this way. Such an indictment on what this country is supposed to be. The wealthy right wing base does a fantastic job ensuring people think like this.
I'm a lazy fuck that picks up dinner pretty much every night and amazes me how many people don't wear masks when signs say you are required to. Is it that hard to not be a cunt
I read China, Inc. a while back and saw the writing on the wall. Just saw it on my shelf yesterday and thought it might be worth a re-read to see how accurate it was.
San Diego started allowing dine in restaurants and bars that serve food with strict limits on distancing and whatnot. You can tell things are going well so far.
it sucks that not everyone wears a mask but at least you can point out the fucking idiots easily anytime you go anywhere now
Don’t forget the Caribbean, China has pumped a lot of money into the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, hell yeah, America first.
Researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center said last week that cases in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area could spike this summer, with a tripling of daily active cases of covid-19, the disease the novel coronavirus causes, if there is a significant easing of mitigation efforts. And PolicyLab projects that in the next month, Harris County, which includes Houston, will go from a couple hundred cases a day to more than 2,000. https://www.washingtonpost.com/heal...lFMRzhGNXh5akx2cHRZZlRwQzhIQlR6UENITmFER3VxLQ..
Sounds like bars will open in Florida 6/1 unless he announces tomorrow like he has been that bars open Monday. Rumor is he wants restaurants almost full capacity before bars or some shit. Doesn’t matter, if you can get a food truck out you are open so whatever.
Montgomery County has no ICU beds open and Bama is letting strip clubs open back up Friday (even though some opened early and flaunted it). I'm sure nothing is going to go wrong at all. P
I mean, do people not realize that surgeons wear masks for hours upon hours on end? Something so easily proven false and people read something on Facebook and suddenly they are experts. Same with staying inside makes you immunosuppressed. You think there aren’t germs in your house? In your air? You think scientists in Antarctica come back and have no immune system? Idk it’s just mind boggling.
That title is a bit disingenuous. They’re opening to the Schengen zone and the UK only for now. https://www.afar.com/magazine/is-italy-reopening-and-when-will-i-be-able-to-visit
Yep. Easy to get clicks/RTs when you single out America in the headline and can invoke an American self-pity party like in the replies.
in a bit of much-needed good news for San Francisco burrito-lovers, the iconic Mission District restaurant La Taqueria is set to reopen on May 27 for takeout, more than two months after the business closed its doors due to the coronavirus pandemic
