I think he's more often trying to undercut that anything actually is racist. That way he can condemn the idea of racism without ever acknowledging its existence in any situation.

Why would I want to condemn the idea of racism if I am what you claim I am??

None of what you said here is true. That's not what I'm doing and I don't believe you actually think that. I think you are smarter than this, but I could be wrong.

All of these social progressive causes are set up to NEVER allow for dissent. You take a moral position against racism, then point out a situation that you think is racist. If someone does not agree with you, or even questions it, well then they are racist. If you can get a bunch of other people to pile on, all the better, now anyone who disagrees is REALLY racist! There is no possible option for disagreement, since your position is 100% moral, and you have the backing of the group.

Because why would anyone argue that something might not be racist??? How could anyone actually take the opposite side, to defend the racist position? OMG it's so obviously white knighting for racists! Every claim of racism needs to be accepted as racism. People who don't accept that are quite obviously racist.

You understand how absurd that is, right? Your fake outrage is outrageous.

Real racism exists. This professor who called the cops on the guy for not changing seats, based on what other students are saying, may very well be racist. That exists. If that's the case, fuck that racist, I'm glad he was exposed. There are plenty of similar but more blatant examples of racism. And that STILL does not make Sidewalk Sally racist because she called the cops on black people without any proof of racism.

Much of this is valid. You're better when you legitimately engage rather than trying to get other people to fall into disingenuous ideological traps.

My outrage isn't fake but it can sometimes be a bit aggressive.

Your outrage was not aggressive at all, that piece of shit is straight up racist trash who believes stop and frisk was needed because blacks and Hispanics are naturally inclined to commit crimes. He has been provided with studies that offer insight on the topic which he ignores so he can continue to spew his racist bullshit.

Instead of herp derping about “group think” the racist piece of trash should stop being a racist piece of trash if he doesn’t want to be labeled as such.

My posting history is as described above. If I question your claim of racism, that, by default, makes me racist. The only way I could not be racist is if I agree with any claim of racism you identify.

You literally tried to deny that lynching were racist, you claimed that stop and frisk was justified because blacks and Hispanics are inherently destined to commit crimes, this goes well beyond your whitewashed point of view, you’re a fucking racist.

Georgia FedEx customer allegedly threatens to 'whoop' workers' 'black asses,' but workers are fired

A FedEx driver and his co-worker were fired Wednesday, then apparently offered other employment for the company after the FedEx driver posted video of a Georgia customer who allegedly cursed at and threatened the workers in a racist attack. The video shows a man The Atlanta Journal-Constitution identifies as Felinzay Lundy defending himself to the customer, who is recording with a phone. “You didn’t have to come out here cussing me like that. I ain’t no little boy. I’ll wait ‘til the police come,” Lundy said in the video.

Antonio Braswell, the driver, who isn’t in the video, said he waited for police to arrive and learned from the customer's exchange with authorities that the customer thought they were going to break into his house while his wife was there.

“I’m reposting this video because people like him doesn’t matter white or any race should never disrespect essential workers putting their lives in jeopardy especially with this covid-19,” Braswell said in the tweet.

He also said FedEx had fired him and Lundy, but late Wednesday the company tweeted this message:

“We are aware of the incident in GA that led to the release of two drivers employed by a service provider. We're offering employment while investigating to ensure an appropriate outcome. We take seriously allegations of discrimination, retaliation, or improper employment actions.”

"All we did was deliver his package, he was in the house at the time. It was a quick stop and as soon as we were leaving he ran out his house cursing and threatening us. While we were looking confused we just apologized for being on his yard but he keep going on then kept saying he would whoop our black asses and then he told his wife to call the cops,” Braswell said according to a GoFundMe page for the workers. “That’s when he pulled out his phone playing victim and that's when I recorded. Idk what the police did but I posted this video because we go through racism everyday on that route in Leesburg but he was the first one to actually come up and actually threaten us."

Video of the incident has attracted 6.5 million views, and the GoFundMe page had raised $69,229 of a $75,000 goal by Thursday afternoon.

Hammer-wielding woman arrested after going on racist tirade, couple says
Told to go back to their country
    [IMG]

HOUSTON – A couple visiting Houston from New Orleans say they were confronted by a woman with a hammer because she apparently mistook them as being Mexican citizens.

Arturo Cordovez and his wife, Dr. Lia Franco, are natives of Ecuador who currently live in New Orleans where Lia is finishing her medical residency. In the last few months, Dr. Franco has been treating COVID-19 patients day after day. To decompress, the couple decided to spend the weekend in Houston over the Memorial Day holiday to unwind.

Sunday afternoon, they were looking for a restaurant near South Shepherd and Westheimer roads in southwest Houston, when they noticed a woman following in a car behind them.

“So we stopped a little bit on the side and she was still there," Dr. Franco said

“She stopped behind us,” Arturo Cordovez said. “After that she started showing a hammer through the mirror. She was shaking her arm ... and cursing at us I think. I was thinking what did I do?”

The couple called 911 and turned into a gas station where the woman continued to follow them.

Dr. Franco said that’s when the woman pulled beside them and started screaming.

“And we go what do you want?” Dr. Franco said. "And she said screamed ‘You Mexicans, get out of my F**ing country. Go back to your F**ing country.’”

The woman got out of her car, with a hammer and seemed to be threatening them with it. Before the situation escalated further, the police arrived and took her into custody.

Police identify her as 60-year-old Constance Lynn Bono.

She was arrested Sunday and remains in jail as of Tuesday. So far, investigators haven’t been able to say what sparked the incident.

For Dr. Franco and her husband, their first trip to Houston was surprising and scary.

“I think she needs help, she needs treatment, but that doesn’t justify the fact she needs to follow the laws of her country," Dr. Franco said. “If she broke the laws here, she needs to pay for what she did. But for me as a physician, I think the most important thing is she needs treatment, she needs help.”

Bono is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony with a punishment range of up to 20 years in prison. But if prosecutors believe racism was the motive, the charge could be enhanced to a first-degree felony, with a punishment range of up to life in prison.

The case is expected to be referred to a grand jury.

Black teen skips remote learning like many other students. Only, she's sent to juvenile detention

A 15-year-old Black girl was sent to juvenile detention for more than a month during the deadly COVID-19 pandemic for failing to complete remote schoolwork even after the teen’s teacher said she was “not out of alignment” with most of the teacher’s other students. The teen, identified in a ProPublica Illinois article as Grace, was sent to suburban Detroit to stay at the Oakland County Children’s Village in mid-June, the journalism nonprofit reported.

Judge Mary Ellen Brennan of the Oakland County Family Court Division ruled that Grace was “guilty on failure to submit to any schoolwork and getting up for school.” Brennan also called Grace a “threat to (the) community” after she reportedly violated probation by not completing the schoolwork. Grace was originally charged with assault and theft. “She hasn’t fulfilled the expectation with regard to school performance,” Brennan said at a sentencing hearing. “I told her she was on thin ice and I told her that I was going to hold her to the letter, to the order, of the probation.”
Grace, who lives in a predominantly white community, was ordered to check in with a caseworker regularly, receive counseling, wear a GPS tether, and complete all schoolwork after an incident with her mother, Charisse, led someone to call 911 on Nov. 6, 2019. Grace pulled her mother’s hair and bit her finger when the woman didn’t allow the child to go to her friend’s house, according to a police report ProPublica obtained. The person who called 911 had heard Charisse crying, “Help me!” from the car the incident unfolded inside. In the incident, Grace was arrested but later released to a family friend.

It wasn’t until weeks after the incident when she was charged with larceny that she was made to appear in court virtually on April 21. “After I was caught, I felt instant remorse and guilt. I wanted to take back everything I had done,” Grace had written in a statement to police. She made a similar plea to Brennan. “My mom and I do get into a lot of arguments, but with each one, I learn something and try to analyze why it happened,” Grace reportedly said. “My mom and I are working each day to better ourselves and our relationship, and I think that the removal from my home would be an intrusion on our progress.”

Brennan spared the teen from juvenile detention but also berated her. “Most people go through their entire youth without having the cops have to come to their house because they can’t get themselves together,” the judge said. She added after detailing the conditions of Grace’s probation that she hopes the teen “upholds her end of the bargain,” ProPublica Illinois reported.

Initially, she did. But when Grace’s school hastily switched to remote learning, as many did at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Grace—who has ADHD—had a hard time focusing, according to records ProPublica obtained. Charisse confided in caseworker Rachel Giroux that Grace had been staying up late and sleeping in, and Giroux told the mother she "needs time to adjust to this new normal of being on probation and doing work from home." Still, when Charisse told the caseworker Grace had fallen asleep after one of their check-ins five days later, the woman filed a notice of probation violation and claimed in case notes that Grace “clearly doesn’t want to abide by the rules in the community." Giroux didn’t return a request for comment from ProPublica.

Katherine Tarpeh, Grace’s teacher, told Giroux that Grace was not responding abnormally. “Let me be clear that this is no one’s fault because we did not see this unprecedented global pandemic coming,” the educator wrote in an email ProPublica Illinois obtained. Grace “has a strong desire to do well” and “is trying to get to the other side of a steep learning curve mountain,” Tarpeh said.

Jason Smith, a policy director at the Michigan Center for Youth Justice, told ProPublica Illinois that “kids of color are disproportionately involved and impacted by the system across the board … They are more likely to be arrested, less likely to be offered any kind of diversion, more likely to be removed out of the home and placed in some sort of confinement situation,” Smith said.

A pandemic affecting more than 177,195 people in Michigan alone has been no equalizer. Black Michigan residents represent 40% of the state's COVID-19 deaths but only about 14% of the population, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

“Who can even be a good student right now?” asked Ricky Watson Jr., executive director of the National Juvenile Justice Network.

“Unless there is an urgent need, I don’t understand why you would be sending a kid to any facility right now and taking them away from their families with all that we are dealing with right now,” Watson told ProPublica Illinois.

    Can't shop in Beverly Hills
'Gee, that’s suspicious—Black people shopping in Beverly Hills,' attorney mocks police force

A lawsuit announced Wednesday accuses the Beverly Hills Police Department, the city, and one Capt. Scott Dowling specifically of racial profiling after attorneys found 105 of 106 people arrested as part of a city task force are Black. The other person is Latino, CBS Los Angeles reported. The lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court is spearheaded by noted civil rights attorneys Ben Crump, Bradley Gage, and Mark Harris. It centers the city police department’s Operation Safe Streets and the Rodeo Drive Task Force.

"This Beverly Hills task force was created under the guise of safety, but don't let anyone fool you," Crump said in the release. “In reality, these task forces were unjustifiably targeting people of color for things that white residents and visitors do all the time without incident.”

The attorneys are pursuing class-action status for the suit, the Los Angeles Times reported. Cited in the lawsuit are 60 alleged examples of racial profiling, including the case of Jasmine Williams, a Pennsylvania nurse, and her boyfriend, Kahlil White. Williams and White are the only named plaintiffs in the suit, the newspaper reported. They were arrested the first day of their vacation and accused of resisting arrest when they were stopped for riding scooters on the sidewalk, CBS Los Angeles reported. “The case was dismissed because they knew we were being charged falsely, for being Black,” White said.
Police Chief Dominick Rivetti said in a statement on Wednesday:

“The women and men of BHPD take an oath to protect human life and enforce the law – regardless of race. Any violation of this pledge is contrary to the values of this department. We take all concerns regarding the conduct of our officers very seriously.
In response to information shared at a press conference today, it is important to note that Mr. White and Ms. Williams were warned earlier that day that riding a scooter on the sidewalk in Beverly Hills was prohibited. At that time, no enforcement action was taken. When committing the same violation later the same day and also providing false information to a police officer, Mr. White and Ms. Williams were taken into custody.
Our department’s practice is to contact and question individuals when we believe they may be involved in criminal activity or another violation of the law.
Last summer, our department responded to a significant increase in calls for service in our business community. These calls included burglaries, shoplifting, pedestrian and vehicle code violations, street gambling, public intoxication, marijuana smoking and more. This rise in crime during the pandemic and following months of civil unrest was not unique to Beverly Hills.
We received daily complaints from Rodeo Drive businesses and, in response to community concerns, our department created the Rodeo Drive Team to ensure proper staffing and appropriate response times. As a result of the newly created team, in a span of just five weeks, we recovered thirteen loaded firearms from individuals on Rodeo Drive.
This is unprecedented in the history of Beverly Hills.
As we responded to these issues, our officers also discovered widespread fraudulent use of California unemployment benefits.
We recovered over a quarter-million dollars in cash and fraudulent EDD cards with a potential value of $3 million dollars. The majority of those arrested were not residents of California, despite possessing and using California unemployment benefit cards. I am proud that our department was one of the first to uncover the gross abuse of our state’s unemployment system. Through our efforts, many cities found similar fraud, and the state began to repair a very broken system.
I want to reassure the Beverly Hills community and the world that this department remains committed to keeping our community safe while enforcing the law with respect and dignity for all.”
Crump and the other attorneys announced the lawsuit at a press conference in front of Beverly Hills City Hall. “Until we confront implicit bias head-on, until we confront racism head-on, until we confront discrimination head-on, everywhere in America there's a threat for Black people to face grave injustices,” Crump said at the media event. Gage described the policing approach embraced by the Beverly Hills Police Department as “Gee, that’s suspicious—Black people shopping in Beverly Hills.”

Salehe Bembury, former vice president of the Italian fashion brand Versace, is also a part of the lawsuit, CBS Los Angeles reported. Bembury, holding a Versace bag in an Instagram video he posted on Oct. 1, 2020, said he was searched for shopping at the store he works for “and just being Black.” An officer is shown in the video asking Bembury if he has any weapons and to produce his ID. He told the officer and another cop on the scene he didn’t have any weapons, and he gave them his ID. "So you checked my ID. What's going on?” Bembury asked toward the end of the encounter. “Do I have anything on my record? I'm good to go. That's what I thought."

have to add picking apples to the list
Cambridge School Committee member says her family was racially profiled, accused of stealing during visit to Connors Farm
    “It just wasn’t right. Period.”

    By Dialynn Dwyer

    updated on September 9, 2021 | 4:17 PM
A member of the Cambridge School Committee is speaking out after she says her family was racially profiled and accused of stealing when they visited Connors Farm in Danvers this week.

In a letter posted online Wednesday, Manikka Bowman, who is vice-chair of the School Committee, and her husband, Jeff Myers, who works in real estate, shared details of the “traumatic experience” they had on their Labor Day trip to the Danvers farm with their two young children, a 7-year-old and 18-month-old.

“The day started off with family fun then turned into trauma we will never forget,” Bowman wrote on Facebook. “My purse was searched and when we challenged what was happening to our family, Connors Farm called the police on us.”

    Advertisement:
Connors Farm did not immediately return a request for comment on the incident from Boston.com on Thursday.

According to Bowman and Myers, it was the family’s first time at the business, and they “instantly loved it.”

They paid for all-day admission, fruit picking, and food and drinks while they were there, totaling more than $100, they wrote. They were considering holding their daughter’s birthday party at the farm and already planning when they could return.

“Throughout the day, the staff was gracious and helpful,” the couple wrote. “But that dramatically changed as we were approaching the end of our day.”

    Advertisement:
As they left the orchard area and were heading to the farm store where they planned to buy apple cider doughnuts, Bowman said she checked the bag they’d been given for fruit picking to ensure the apples and peaches they’d harvested could fit in it.

“I realized that our little ones, in their apple-picking excitement, had picked up a few more apples than fit in the bag,” she wrote. “I assumed we’d have a chance to pay for the extras in our final checkout. With families being primary customers, surely, we couldn’t be the first to have excitedly over-picked by a few apples—six in our case.”

    Advertisement:
But before the family got into the farm store, a security officer stopped them for having too many apples that were not in the apple bag, the couple said. The bag, which they’d placed in the bottom of their stroller, had fallen over and some of the fruit had fallen out, they said.

Two security officers escorted the Cambridge family into the farm store building where Bowman’s purse was searched for more fruit, the couple said.

“I asked the person why were we being treated this way? And did they treat other guests this way?” Bowman wrote. “As it became apparent that the security guards, along with a third employee who was located in the farm building, were accusing our family of stealing, our outrage at the false accusation and the embarrassment and confusion it was causing us grew stronger. We asked to speak to the manager.”

The farm stand employee then identified himself as the manager, according to their letter, and Bowman and Myers asked for contact information to speak with the owners, a request they said was refused with the employee then calling the police.

“The police officer was tempered,” Bowman wrote. “However, despite our visible frustration and attempts to explain the situation, he never took our position seriously. Rather, his actions and words assumed that the manager’s narrative was accurate and then accused us of ‘playing the race card.’”

During the confrontation, Bowman said their 7-year-old daughter burst into tears that “lasted well into the evening.”

“What made them suspect us of stealing?” Bowman wrote. “Had our skin color influenced their thinking? Were we presumed guilty because we are an African American family? Why hadn’t they taken a much simpler, customer-friendly route and presumed our innocence with a simple reminder on what to do with any fruit that did not fit in the bag?”

In the end, the family paid for the extra apples, the couple said. But when they got home, they found that the bag they paid for was not filled to full capacity.

“As a result, Connors Farm overcharged us for extra fruit,” Bowman wrote. “What would those six extra apples have cost? A total of about $4.00. We are left wondering, was it ever about the apples?”

Connors Farm did not respond to a request for comment, but on Thursday morning they posted a video of their orchard on their Facebook page with a message that referenced their “right to inspect all backpacks, bags and strollers” exiting the orchard.

“We are going to have beautiful weather this weekend,” the business wrote. “Our orchard is overflowing with apples. Everybody is welcome at Connors Farm. Come on down, purchase one of our apple bags, fill it up and enjoy the day. Just a friendly reminder that we reserve the right to inspect all backpacks, bags and strollers that exit our orchard. We look forward to seeing you soon!”

Update: Shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday, Connors Farm posted a statement on its Facebook page, saying it regretted the incident and “extended our personal apology to the family.” It also said staff would undergo “diversity, equity and inclusion training” and deleted the video from Thursday morning.

    The statement in full:

“We regret the incident that happened this past weekend. We have extended our personal apology to the family. We do our best to train our employees to handle all customer issues with courtesy and respect at all times. We are taking further steps to ensure that staff will undergo diversity, equity and inclusion training. Please know that everybody is welcome on our farm.”

Black man has a stroke, Boston police arrest him instead of calling an ambulance

The Boston police have a notorious record when it comes to the treatment of Black citizens. The force itself is predominantly white, with efforts to diversify its ranks falling short decade after decade. So it can’t have been much of a surprise that when Boston police found Al Copeland slumped in his car in 2019, instead of calling an ambulance, they arrested the then 62-year-old and carted him off to jail.

On the night Copeland was arrested, he knew he was having some kind of medical emergency. His years of training and driving for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) prepared him, so he pulled his car over immediately. He parked in front of the famed Berklee College of Music and told WBUR, although he was afraid, he thought, “at least if anything happens to me, somebody will find me.”

When police found Copeland he was barely conscious, but instead of assuming he was ill, they filed a report claiming he was intoxicated and instead of calling an ambulance, they arrested him.

"Why they didn’t assume he was sick?" Valerie Copeland, Al’s wife asks WBUR. "I can only and strongly believe it's because he's a Black male."

The night continued to become a nightmare for Copeland after he was taken to the police station. According to police records, while trying to use the bathroom in the holding cell, he fell and hit his head. Officers still did not offer him medical help, instead choosing to let him “sleep it off,” WBUR reports.

It was only after five hours and Copeland beginning to vomit that officers finally called an ambulance to take him to Tufts Medical Center, where the nightmare turned into a horror movie. While there, medical workers also assumed he was drunk and made the decision to leave him in the emergency room unattended for seven more hours.

Boston has settled with the Copelands for $1.3 million, but the officers have not been disciplined even though the investigation ended over a year ago.

The Copelands never filed a lawsuit, the city of Boston simply settled with them after an attorney they’d hired contacted the city.

Although Tufts has apologized to the Copelands, the police department has never apologized or reached out to him or his family. And the physical damage is still quite significant.

"My balance, my attitude, my appetite," Al Copeland tells WBUR. "Tasting food, and some cognitive things that are still happening, and some physical things as well."

Copeland spent weeks at Tufts and months at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. He was forced to leave his job with the MBTA, and both eating and walking remain a challenge.

Copeland doesn’t remember the day he had the stroke and only learned about what happened while in the rehab facility.

"I heard ... they treated you like you was a drunk on the street," he recounts to WBUR. "That's what I heard ... and it pissed me off. Immediately, I went to: all these white addicts all over nodding all over the place, they treat me like I'm a drunk on the street."

The Copelands say they spoke to WBUR about the tragic day in April 2019 because they hoped it might change the way the Boston police handled cases like these, and to hopefully keep it from happening to another innocent Black person.

"Hopefully some things can come out of this," Copeland says. "To shed some light on it, to change some things systemically. But who the hell knows."

The family of a Black man who was shot seven times in Stockton, California, last week is pushing for justice in what is now being investigated as a potential hate crime.

Bobby Gayle, 45, a cement mason and father of five was seriously injured in the unprovoked attack last Friday, according to his family. His brother, Marlon Gayle, said Bobby had just finished a construction job at a restaurant when the shooting occurred.

"This big truck came by and almost hit them. So my brother says, 'Hey, slow down,'" Marlon Gayle told ABC News. "According to my brother and the guy who was with him, his friend, the guy gets out of the truck, the white guy, and he has a gun, and he starts saying the n-word over and over again and started shooting my brother."

Bobby Gayle was shot seven times, including in the face. His family said that he is in stable condition and that no major arteries were hit.

Right after the shooting, he left his brother a voicemail saying that he had been shot and asking him to pray.
"It was a miracle. God answers prayer and we're just so thankful," Marlon Gayle said. "He's just so happy to be alive, and blessed to be with his family and his children."

The Stockton Police Department described the shooter as a white male in his 30s, wearing a dark-colored jacket and jeans. Police have described his vehicle as a late-model Chevrolet Silverado extended cab truck with after-model, chrome-colored wheels. There's a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
While detectives are in the early stages of the investigation, they said the shooting is being probed as a potential hate crime. The Stockton Police Department said it has had an average of eight hate crime cases a year over the last five years.

"His heart is not right, the hatred that's inside of him," Marlon Gayle said. "Yes, it was a hate crime and that person needs Jesus, that person needs prayer, that person needs to be brought to justice."

"Our family, we never expected something like this to happen. We love people. We're people that serve in the community, and we love people from all backgrounds," he added. "We believe in forgiveness, but that person, he definitely needs to be taken off the streets. He's dangerous."

Gayle said that the police department has been very helpful.

"I really believe that they're doing everything that they can to try to find this guy," he said.

    God damnit!

Moroccan man gets lost, parks his car, white Texan shoots him dead and walks free

A Google search of Adil Dghoughi’s name will offer you little to no information about his death. Hardly any media outlets have covered it. Dghoughi, an unarmed Moroccan citizen living in the U.S., was shot and killed by a Texas resident in an unprovoked attack on Oct. 11. According to Morocco World News, Dghoughi was shot by 65-year-old Terry Turner for sitting in a parked car near Turner’s residence in Martindale, Texas, a small town about 40 miles from Austin.

Moroccan community members, Dghoughi’s family, and minority advocates are now demanding justice for Dghoughi’s case, in which no one was arrested or investigated in connection to—despite police reports confirming a man verbally confronted 31-year-old Dghouhghi before shooting him. Advocates and family members questioned why the shooter not only initially remained unidentified but also was not taken into police custody.

Officers responded to the scene within 15 minutes and had emergency services transport Dghoughi to the hospital, where he died shortly after, Morocco World News reported. While the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office released an official statement describing the incident, no information was shared outside of the fact that the “shooter remained cooperative,” and that local authorities decided against arrest charges.

Why local authorities decided not to pursue charges is unclear, but many advocates believe it not only has to do with the shooter being friends with local police, but also cites Texas’ “no duty retreat” law.

The law, commonly known as the “stand your ground law,” allows individuals to use deadly force when they “reasonably believe” they need to defend themselves. Essentially, it is considered a self-defense law. According to Chapter 9 of the Texas Penal Code, an individual has the right to self-defense “to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to protect the actor against the other's use or attempted use of unlawful force.”

The “stand your ground” law typically applies when an attacker has made their way onto a place of residence, employment, or business and is trying to commit robbery, kidnapping, or sexual or other violent assault. As of this report, more than 30 states in the U.S. have similar legislation justifying the use of deadly force.

A report released by RAND institute, a nonprofit think tank, found that “these laws are associated with an increase in homicides” and disproportionately impact people of color. Additionally, the report found that these laws “encourage impulsive and illegitimate uses of deadly force” in situations that could have otherwise been prevented.

In this case, family members believe Dghoughi had little to no interaction with his murderer as his windows were still rolled up at the time of the attack. Additionally, his girlfriend claims he was likely stopped on Tina’s Trail in an attempt to find a signal for his GPS system, a difficult task in parts of Texas. Other sources familiar with the case noted that while Dghoughi was parked in Turner’s driveway, his windows remained locked and his car was in reverse at the time of the shooting.

While charges have not been filed against Turner yet, advocates believe that should they be defense lawyers will use the law as an attempt to paint Dghoughi as a threat—a common defense used against innocent minorities gunned down in similar incidents.

At this time how investigations are being conducted is unclear, as investigators continue to remain silent and refuse to provide information. In a statement to Morocco World News, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Kyle McConnell, said: “All of the information that can be released, has been released.”

In efforts to facilitate the repatriation of Dghougi’s body to Morocco, where his family intends to bury him, a GoFundMe page has been set up. Family members noted that “Adil moved to Texas, America, to look for the ‘American dream.’” Instead, he was “fatally shot… Someone took his life in a senseless act of gun violence. Adil was known to be a caring and loving man whose life was tragically cut short by a horrific act of violence.”

A week after Dghougi’s death, calls for justice are increasing on social media as the family requests his story be shared.

“We just want the truth,” Dghoughi’s estranged wife, Amy Fagnant, told KXAN. “That’s all we want. The truth and answers.”

But while these demands for justice are loud and clear, Turner is walking free as a threat to ethnic minorities and other people. It is clear that, had Turner been a person of color, or had Dghoughi been white, the situation would be a lot different.
