The financial pressures are likely going to make -something- happen but the legal implications of putting students in harms way just seem staggering to me. Professional leagues... I agree, probably something. I’m actually kinda shocked 3v3 basketball hasn’t figured out some sort of tv tournament already.
People just have to remember college football has no competent leadership. So not sure how to be in any way optimistic. I don't know if 3v3 matters as far as being more likely than anything else. Hell UFC just has to worry about 1v1 and still just had a guy pull out for testing positive.
path to the championship just got easier. hopefully they don't look for our coaches: https://sports.yahoo.com/kentucky-f...ng-public-nudity-alcohol-abuse-190046070.html also, kinda wish i was invited to this retreat.
yes that sounds like a great retreat. This could double as a recruiting article for Kentucky cheerleading
Yeah, I was just over there. The garages and some of the surface lots are closed but there are still plenty of places to park around
Anything in there about how they’ll probably keep our “donations” and just refund the “ticket value”?
Hearing the plan is to try to bring half the team back first and see how it goes then the rest if everyone is healthy.
I'm sorry for being a buzzkill but it's extremely irresponsible for us to have college football this year and Danny White should be working on other ways for UCF athletics to survive this year. Anyway you do the math it doesn't make sense. According to the NCAA there are 17800 student athletes playing football. Totally ignoring the fact that this seems more deadly to black people and men, the age fatality rate of this in your 20s is 0.2% If 10% of players get it, it would mean multiple players would die. Now maybe less than 10% become infected or maybe more than 10% do but these people aren't even getting paid. That doesn't even factor in the impact to their families, for example Karl Anthony Towns mother died of Covid-19 earlier this year. We really going to put family members at risk for football? Danny White trying to put fans in the stands? My state did an antibody test and 2% of the population had antibodies. Most didn't know they had it because they were asymptomatic. Let's say that 90% of those with antibodies were over it or had symptoms so they weren't contagious. That means 0.2 would be currently contagious and not know it. In a 45,000 seat stadium that is almost 100 people. There just is no safe way to do this. Again I hate to be the one to be the buzz kill but this is incredibly irresponsible and we can find a way to take the risk for players earning millions each year but I'm not going to support putting amateur athletes and their families at risk. Its insane that we would cancel in person classes but keep extracurricular sports. Sorry for the rant though but god damn i dont understand the plan here and seeing Danny White as a cheerleader for this is pissing me off.
this is the biggest thing to me just as a bottom line. If it isn't safe for students to be on campus then that should be the end. Period.
He would have been better off with "Been struggling to find the right words... maybe they don’t exist, but here’s our PR team's best attempt..."
For sure. Authenticity wins the day right now. I also think we need to get over the people-shouldn’t-ever-share-political-opinions nonsense. Remaining apolitical is very much a privilege in and of itself. A lot of the corporate statements just kinda read like they’re trying to play it as safe as possible. Get the reward without taking any of the risk. bleh.
https://twitter.com/charlesnegy?lang=en Mostly everybody had this professor their freshman year. Hes getting roasted right now
He's Associate Professor, meaning tenure track but not there yet, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out
I never took him, took Sociology with George Long because easy A. But everyone who took him told me this is just how he talked in class.
I actually logged into my course history. Doesn't list professors. But I did take Criminology which I totally forgot but I think I remember it being a cool class. I took sociology but my professor was a woman who I remember was really good. No idea what her name was.
I had him as a professor, but for some reason I thought I remembered him being a left-winger... Either way, the only thing I actually really remember from his class was that he devoted an entire class period to talking about why circumcision is evil. And yes, I do recall that he was a smug prick the entire time.
When I was in grad school, I really wanted to be a professor. Just seemed like the absolute best job. Then got a job offer after my masters and decided to take it and quit pursuing a PhD. Fast forward 9 years after working in industry and I just started engaging some of the ME faculty at university of Arizona to start an internship program, and these people are the woooorst. No offense to anyone here in academia, I’m sure there are amazing aspects to your job. But the sport coat wearing, own fart sniffing professor trope is really spot on for a lot of these guys.
I think he is one of those who probably votes Dem but just believes he is so much better than everyone
His class was my first ever college class. It was the summer right after graduating high school. I remember him asking how many of us were freshman and like 90% raised our hands. He then said "fuck fuck shit cock. You're in university now. I can do and say what i want. I dont care about any of you. I get paid regardless if you pass or fail"
i remember he told a story shortly into the class about how different societies and cultures do different things and think different things are correct (which seems like he'd be on board with black folks instead of white supremacy). He then went on to illustrate his point by telling us about how there are tribes where when a child gets hurt the mom rubs his penis to make him feel better. he seemed to really enjoy telling that story...
I feel like I remember him doing the same thing but the story was like “this tribe thinks that the kids need to drink semen to become strong warriors and so the older men make the young boys give them blowjobs!” I just remember wondering wtf is this guy on about?
yep that was another one. He was clearly into shocking students and being a provocateur just to be a douche. wasn't about actually teaching i feel like.
That’s absolutely his schtick. He just wants to piss people off because it makes him feel powerful to be like “I’m an open minded academic who can say what I want!”
No school is going to come back clean. Hopefully they were isolated before/after the tests from the rest of the team.
