She said this was happening minus the date earlier in the week. Still allowed gatherings of ten it appears really just means salons, gyms and bars arent getting a green light
Which is ridiculous at this point. Even Fauci said today that being closed for this long could cause irresponsible damage to businesses. Salons could easily be open. Temperature check at the door. Restaurants could open up with patio only for now, than increasing to even 50% capacity.
Well the. Let the feds do their job and take care of small business in the restaurant business. I refuse to believe most stylists/salon employees make more than 1k a week so they should be fine for another 2 weeks. You trust people to be honest? I sure don’t because society as a whole is selfish as fuck. Can’t get people to wear a mask at stores but you think they will sign up for temp checks and disclosing symptoms voluntarily? You know you don’t believe that Fauci isn’t an economist so maybe we should have done what he wanted in January and this could have been avoided but you know economy was the priority then
No, I don’t trust people regarding disclosing symptoms. However, a temp check is easy. Takes 5 seconds, if you don’t like it, no service. Servers and stylists are probably making more through unemployment right now if they were able to get it, however the business owner is suffering having to pay rent, utilities, and insurance, with minimal or no revenue being generated.
Understand that for sure which can easily be rectified with more Fed funding in situations that call for it. I’m not going to bitch when we are fairly close to the damn guidelines the Trump squad rolled out. Just because other states aren’t shouldn’t force us to follow. Not all states are the same. I’d expect by end of next week another region of two get more clearance and again the week after. This is by definition a gradual reopening which is what I thought was expected and desired by the vast majority.
She’s made everything insanely confusing. Up north was supposed to open this weekend, which has been well documented. But salons still aren’t open up north from a friend that lives up there. In the greater GR area retail and auto dealerships can open next week, but not salons, restaurants, etc. Does she not think salons up north can follow the same rules their restaurants are? Or follow rules that other salons in other states are doing? If she’s decided other industries up north with close contact are open, why isn’t everything? And with retail opening next week, you have to make a reservation and it’s limited to 10 people per store. I haven’t seen anything on where to make these appointments, how long you can be in the store, or any other logistics. It seems the hardware stores already have a good thing going allowing people based on square footage. That makes sense. The times I’ve been to Home Depot there is one entrance, two employees keeping track of people in/out, all with masks and supposed to be practicing social distancing. If she wants to open things really slowly, she can. But this is really confusing.
Salons and spa settings require touching the person along with tattoo parlors so I expect those to be the last to get some clearance based on her communications. Confusing to a degree but all along those along with large gathering settings were always last on the list. Not to mention the definition of not important so can certainly wait. With the restaurant deal capacity will be drastically reduced with 6 ft spacing for tables and Im not clear if bar seating is open or not in the bar/restaurant setting. Would cut that down drastically too. Outdoor seating and carryout will continue to pave the way for them if you ask me. No perfect way to do it but a slower methodical approach seems smart. Getting industrial, construction and manufacturing rolling was a priority since such a big part of our business here.
Retail seems pretty basic. You get so many people in your store based on your square footage. No need to assign the 10 number to it. I have a family member that works at a large salon and they have plans that people are filling every 3rd chair, have to wear a mask, and get your temp taken to be seen. The stylists are going to rotate days (It’s a huge place) so there are never more than a certain number of people there. They certainly sound like they will make it as safe as possible. Also, section 6 is comprised mainly of Kent, Ottawa, and Muskegon counties. The population of those counties is 1,122,355. There have been 4,449 confirmed cases, or .0039 percent. Health officials locally have come out and said the curve is flattened on MLive. They certainly have shown that more things should be open with specific guidelines. Medical professionals, experts, scientists, etc all keep saying the same thing about the numbers locally and being ready, which is what Gretchen keeps talking about. She says she’s listening to the “health experts,” well, she needs to listen to them harder for section 6.
Certainly does which is great for when that time comes. I don’t think its a question of ability but if the doors all open we know the result is people flooding places. Isn’t that the opposite of the intent? Phased reopening has been universally used across the states and MI being harder hit it is going slower which seems pragmatic
In true government fashion this approach is convoluted and overly complicated. Elderly and immunocompromised should stay quarantined and everyone else should go back to living their lives. Phased reopening makes no sense. The virus is still going to be here whether we open 3 months from now or this week.
You can slowly open businesses without people flooding them. Set certain restrictions. The fact that retail, salons, and restaurants can’t open right now is ridiculous. Shit, you apparently can’t get a haircut up in Traverse City, but you can go out to eat.
No - I was content with quarantine to flatten the curve and not overwhelm the hospitals but now it’s just nonsense.
Vast majority disagree. Do people really miss the barber and bar that much? So confused by all that is being missed out on. Once schools were cancelled I fully anticipated something along these lines until the school year would have ended. Also. Nobody has been quarantined here. Been free to be out and about all along sadly the weather has been complete shit.
At this point, I’m pretty sure you’re in the minority. We all need to get on with our lives. Wear a mask when in public, follow social distancing guidelines. Professional athletes are tweeting about how ridiculous this extension is.
Find me a poll I’d be shocked. I ask again, how are we not getting on with our lives? Chunk of state almost totally open, retail, medical and more coming in a week with more likely at that time as well. Isn’t that the definition of getting on? Did you have some expectation that on x date we would just mask up and it would be like March 10th? Was never going to happen so naturally you are disappointed. Not changing any minds I get that. Agree fo disagree I guess. I chose to enjoy the extra time with my family instead of complaining about the shit I can't do. Got enough real shit to worry about
Competent governments: “we’ll know it’s safe for us to reopen when X, Y, and Z happen.” People: “that makes a lot of sense” *2 weeks and right wing messaging happen but NOT X, Y, and Z* People: “Fuck you, nerds. Just open it”
Chillys bar in Flint will open on the 28th in defiance of the governor's order. They did say they'll follow the Flint 9p-6a curfew though because they "don't want to ruffle any feathers"
Still don’t get the idea of making it public other than the needed attention to raise money when they inevitably get fined.
Actually hasn't been as bad up here as I thought this weekend, weather being mostly shit definitely helped. Couple of restaurant/bars were jammed full, but been a decent amount of people in masks and not crowding around. The over 60+ crowd gives no fucks though and seemingly have to touch everything for whatever reasons. No one brought up groceries so our local stores are just ransacked. Besides that and a local unnamed bar just saying fuck it on 50% capacity and packing full their outdoor deck, local businesses have been pretty good. Won't know for a couple weeks obviously, but it wasn't a total shitshow like I was expecting. Heard Alden and Torch Lake were a little different, but those seasonal people up there are notoriously cunty and I can't imagine them listening to a 15 year old hostess telling them to wait for a table.
You knew that was going to happen and of course it's two people from out-of-state who were previously sick before traveling. At least the hotels aren't open yet so I can actually believe the "contactless" part, but the chances all 8 of these people stayed in all weekend long is probably zero. Rumor is Chicagoans, I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.
Your first sentence is what gets me. Forget the general public even...who the fuck is symptomatic but travels out-of-town to expose their family anyway?
My ex has been sending me pictures from Bay Harbor and it looks like a ghost town so at least all the moderately rich olds are safe.
Chicago numbers been going up and Chicagoans dispersed to Wisconsin and Northern Michigan this weekend. Hopefully the spread is minor.
But imagine being symptomatic and traveling to visit your family in an isolated place like Northern Michigan. Those folks should be jailed.
Damn how are cases in Illinois still extremely high? Just looked and they had 2500 new cases today. The single day high in Michigan is like 1900 back in early April.
If I’m not mistaken, Chicago’s and Illinois’s positive test numbers have tracked almost identically to the increased testing numbers for the past week or so. Hospitalizations are trending down finally as well, and Illinois just today reported its lowest daily death number since early April. Not out-of-the-woods yet but I wouldn’t characterize it as “going up” without that context. ...and to be clear I’m not exonerating any of these POSs from traveling out-of-town when they ought not to be.
This news might officially end the peace between my wife (metro Detroit mother of three and surprisingly strict self-isolationist) and her mother (northern Michigan resident and known fox news viewer). If my summer on the lake wasn’t hanging in the balance I’d be downright giddy.
Wonder how Whitmer responds to this considering she was vacationing this weekend like 10 miles from there.
HopCat in Royal Oak is closing permanently. Their landlord tried forcing a ten year lease on them and they said lolno
Feel like there is one coming to Commerce in the future. A new outdoor mall setting being build at M5 and Pontiac Trail.
