Handful of us at work have been going there for lunch ~once a month at the bee cave 360 one for about 6 years. Good prices and everything just tastes really fresh. Lots of lime and avocado I feel like.
Had a bday dinner for the GF this weekend and one of our friends brought his new girl who was a very attractive New Zealander named Eva. GF tells me when we get home that she’s one of the top dominatrix girls in the world. Goes by Strangelove. Incognito browsing confirms all above facts
It’s some sort of open relationship. Not sure if it just means her job is ok w him or if it’s straight poly. Was quite drunk when I got the rundown
Came from NE for both SXSW and ACL last year and love visiting. Any word on what the Coachella postponement will mean for ACL? I would typically expect some of those people to be performing at both.
Tough to say since things are getting postponed instead of cancelled. Probably a band by band decision on what they prioritize on their tours: normal shows that are more rewarding for actual fans vs being a big name on a festival card with probably a bigger paycheck. Time to see what your favorite bands value more
If you guys still need to stock up, HEB is actually doing a pretty good job at keeping their shelves stocked, had no issues with TP, paper towels, hand soap etc yesterday. They do limit you per trip on how many of certain things you can buy though, I think like 2 bulk packages of toilet paper, 4 bottles of hand soap.
i accepted an offer for an austin-based company today. i don't know when moving there will actually be feasible but i'm excited.
Lin Soup Dumplings are just as good takeout as they are in house. And they individually package them so easy to reheat.
just hit auditorium shores for a run around town lake, for the 3rd straight Sunday less people out there now
where is a good place to live these days/anyone have a building rec? i've read through this thread a bit but the clearest advice i saw was from 8-9 years ago. my office is south of barton hills so i'm looking in newer buildings in south lamar or something over by south congress. are those decent places or should i find something closer to downtown? if anyone has building recs, i'm looking for something 800+ sq ft (have a dog) and with a living room big enough for an exercise bike.
All that area either has already been or progressing towards gentrification so you shouldn’t have a problem finding nicer newer buildings
Depends on your budget. We lived at Coldwater (next to Zilker and basically on the Hike and Bike) for 3 years before we bought a house. It's a great building/location but a larger 1 bed is going to run you $2100-$2500 per month. Further down Lamar there's Lamar Union, Windsor and 704 and those will all get less expensive the further south you go.
'Austin Found' podcast is a pretty cool podcast I just started listening to about different austin history things, if you're interested in little known Austin stories

I'm choosing between two apartments that are pretty much in the same neighborhood. costs are about equivalent, too. one is slightly smaller than the other (and i have a dog, so every inch counts). but the smaller one has google fiber. is google fiber better than the alternatives that I should go with that apartment? i can't do anything more than a virtual tour so i think they're pretty even to me.
Compare the costs, but I didn’t think google fiber was a game changer last I had it in an 850 square foot house. Current LL/roommate has spectrum (I think) and it’s been fine. (But I can’t remember what fiber costs and don’t know what spectrum costs per month). Also, most I do is stream Netflix and ATTTV, so probably not a good source of info if you game hard or torrance a bunch.
The other providers in Austin have jumped to match the bar that Google fiber set years ago. Use the address tool to compare each of the providers, they'll show you what's available at these address if the front desk/leasing office won't. I would see who has more favorable lease and sublease terms as well as other small stuff like pet fees, valet/ concierge, ease of parking etc. If everything is truly equal I would go with whichever property management company is rated higher.
thanks. the non-fiber apartment had better reviews on yelp/the internet so i'll likely go through them. i'm looking to not have cable and would just stream sports so i want good internet. i casually play xbox (since the virus) and torrance a bit but not to the point where my non-fiber internet is even inadequate. sounds like it's nbd.
Where are you looking? I would love google fiber but not available in my building. I had spectrum and the latency was killing me on xbox (NEEEEERRRRDDD) So I switched to AT&T Fiber with no data caps. Its been solid.
since that move was originally posted in the online dating thread, worth noting that I never lived more than a mile away from Shady Grove and during Thursday Acoustic season I probably averaged ~15 app dates there per spring/summer. Pretty much any Thursday that my crew wasn't going just ask and free music outside was elite date bait. RIP Shady. Sucks that part of town is basically dead now. IDK what "Ski Shores Cafe" thinks they're gonna do but I doubt they last more than a year. I'll still be in Austin a lot after moving. Most of our friends here have houses with open door policies on their guest bedrooms and I'll be working 100% remote at my next job. GF is designing a pretty badass house for dallas though.
I think the area is called ZIlker. Around Lamar just south of downtown. Seems like a good area for my dog and an easy commute without having to cross a bridge.
That's a good part of town to be in. Good bars and restaurants to walk to. Easy Uber into DT, Rainey or the East Side. Obviously the park is right there too.
Best area in town IMO. Lived there from 2013 til last month when I moved in with the GF, sans the 1.5 years living downtown. You’ll love the area. Gibson bar is a good spot to be a regular if you’re in the 25-35 demographic.

Rented a jet ski on lake Travis today. Emerald point was nice. I am here now: https://www.fbtxvacation.com/meier-haus
Jet skis are a good idea. We've been thinking about renting a boat, but a jet ski would work great for an hour or two if it's just me and the GF.
Lived right off of Barton Springs for 3 years and miss it. Could just walk the dog to Zilker. Was great.
