Who knows. Hard to say yet whether we made it better or worse. But let’s say double for argument sake. That wouldn’t come close to justifying these incredible measures.
200k dead wouldn’t justify what? What incredible measures specifically are you upset about? And made it worse? How could these measure have made the viral infections worse? You know it’s not over, right? We’ll be at “double” soon enough
Justify shutting down our economy. And 200k deaths would be tragic but this is probably the most extreme solution applied to any problem we have ever faced.
I always wondered what a post would look like if someone posted immediately after Tucker Carlson shit in their mouth? No need to wonder anymore.
tbh i'm optimistic generally even if i have a cynical streak but i in my life never thought i'd see a non-zero amount of americans be like 200k dead no big deal we should just ignore it its really one of those moment you don't forget about your fellow citizens
setting aside the likely perfect correlation of acceptance with global war and destabilization for 3k deaths on 9/11
Freak out (rightfully so) when 3,000 people die in a terrorist attack, hand wave six-figure deaths as the price of doing business. This fucking country, man ...
I posted it right after. Like I said before, the odds are this country has always had these insanely idiotic asshole shitsippers but the internet has allowed them to yell incoherently a lot more effectively.
You are talking about shutting down our economy. We’ve run up a tab of 3-4 trillion to date and tens of million unemployed. And this is the beginning. So of course 50k dead is awful and tragic but 60-80k can die from the flu and few even notice.
It’s 100k, and we’re not close to being stopped. And 60k is a bad flu season, a season which lasts seven months. 100k has happened in three.
We kill people in war. Been that way since the beginning of time. But no doubt that was as dramatic a measure as this country has taken so fair point. So our response to Covid and dropping nukes on the Japanese.
Are you going to share the Hong Kong Flu meme next? Also, you should watch and read about World War II, in particular, what the ‘shutting down the economy’ did for war efforts in Europe and the Pacific. Stop being so god damn dense.
Even if it was 100k to date (which seems unlikely) we didn’t shut the country down because we were worried about 100k. 100k would be awful but the concern was it could have been in the millions.
A lot more. And from what I’m hearing come out of even health conscious parts of the country (e.g. southern Cali) - this is about to get worse unless seasonality plays a relatively strong role and keeps things flat until fall.
You’re right, it’s probably more than 100k. Anyway, you’re either a big piece of shit or a troll. Which is pretty much the same thing.
You have to admire the subtle shift in ‘It’s not about the deaths’ company line from the Fox News crowd when Trump trotted out the model that 60K would die by August six weeks ago.
Why does it seem unlikely? You an expert? you are correct though. It could have been in the millions - probably 500k - 1.5M dead as a reasonably estimate. Still could, actually.
I think a covid death is anyone dying from, with or believed to die with Covid. And there are 100k of those apparently. But 50k, 100k, 200k... it is all awful. Stirred up quite the hornets nest which wasn’t the intent so will gladly let it go and agree to disagree.
Yeah, it’s picking up a bit here even though we’ve been compliant for the most part (a few Orange County shitheads aside). Part comes from slow loosening, part comes from people circulating a bit more, part due to more testing. As an aside, hung out with a periphery friend for the first time in three months. He got the Rona in late February (saw the antibody test paperwork) and said it was the most miserable experience of his life. He said it lasted 2.5 weeks and at its peak he couldn’t say more than four words without gasping for breath. And he’s in his late 20s and healthy.
