Posted on virus thread but FYI— Hearing a rumor from someone that would know: nyc will be “officially shutdown” come Monday
Really cool that my company (2,000 people worldwide) is refusing to take a stance on COVID-19. Main messaging is stay home “if you feel afraid” which is basically a fear tactic. Insanely irresponsible considering every employee can work remotely. Very good things.
My company is still optional WFH, but our main client right now is Google and they have a mandatory, month-long WFH policy for all 100k of their employees, so this week has been way more calm than usual. Flying to New Zealand tomorrow. So curious to what I will be coming back to at the end of the month
Rumors be going around that NYC will institute some kind of quarantine but I call bullshit. I could see public transportation getting axed bc of how absolutely disgusting and crowded it is.
I did not get that info from a rumor but I hear ya. I wasn’t told the word quarantine, no idea about that.
bro did you bounce? :congrats you played yourself.gif: Red Hook Tav and Lucali dishing out the goods easier than ever before
In-laws are in Westchester I've been cooking up a storm here. I'm very fortunate that I love my in-laws :-)
I was the only car in the holland tunnel last weekend at like 2pm on a sunday. Got to try out sport mode
What would happen if the subway system was closed? Is that possible or even being discussed? How else would people be able to commute to work, say from Brooklyn into Manhattan? Doesn’t seem realistic that people could walk or bike those distances.
A guy in my building just preordered an electric VanMoof bicycle. Things like that are going to become increasingly popular. but in general, yeah there’s been talk of closing the subway but never from any elected official nor anyone who actually lives here (that I’m aware of). Even in a lockdown, it’s the lifeblood of a very dense city. You can’t do it. Manhattan is only 1.6 million residents but more than doubles during a normal workday. 5.5 million people rode the subway at peak ridership before this.
Any of yous desperate to GTFO out of the city Warwick Drive In Movie theatre got permits to open. I'm going Friday.
went back to BK yesterday to get some stuff from the crib and was excited to get some F&F for lunch closed M-W
Yeah. Looking around every Drive in has online tix sales. Dutchess has a few so for a little bit longer drive you can try them. Cuomo is allowing them to open but with less spots cars have to keep a space in between. I think they will do well.
What are the profit margins. Its kinda crazy but atm it's going to be great for them. I doubt they don't sell out every weekend this summer.
Anyone else not paying rent? Good friend hasn't paid April or May rents for his nice 1 bedroom $4K place in the W Village. He works at a big bank that is basically saying they won't go back until September at earliest. His lease isn't up until Oct but he's working from his family vacation home in the Midwest so why pay / go back? We negotiated a $1300 reduction in our rent the past 2 months from $5300 to $4K. Thinking about exiting permanently when our lease is up in July.
Lots of people doing this stuff I am continuing to pay rent because I’m still in our apartment and it’s great city is going to be hurt badly by everyone leaving, especially manhattan
We’re paying half our rent because 2/4 still have jobs and we let our landlord know. They have made zero effort to work with us and send an email every week asking when our rent will be paid in full. Bunch of assholes.
yeah, the corporate landlords and large commercial real estate companies are replying with form letters and denying most peoples hardship or reduction requests. Even heartfelt personal requests. If we weren’t renting a condo from a nice couple that reduced our rent, we would have stopped paying too. And our lease ends in July so we are definitely skipping town for 3-6 months and working remotely from somewhere else
Good question. He’s done a lot of digging to find out how to handle the situation in preparation for his move this weekend. Which, since I am now back in the city as of yesterday, I am being asked to help. Last thing I want to do is to be moving shit in the west village this weekend. But according to real estate attorneys, low probability the real estate company will be able to get this through the courts in the foreseeable future and even lower probability that they will spend the money to try and track him down out of state to serve papers. His social media is scrubbed and his credit background won’t reveal where he is holed up for the next 6 months. On top of that his bank just said work from home most likely through the year, so he would unlikely renew in October. Why pay rent from April through October if you are not going to be here? Legally, perhaps. Morally? Ambiguous, given the money his locally owned building has made over the years and unwillingness to work with him on temporary rent reduction in a time of crisis and unuse.
you have no recourse . your fucked buys . look who is leader ? any to bad go protest without masks and get sick we need you to get sick ok so you can sit in Arkansas or minnisota , ky .and protest so everyone else can get some space and thin out the stupid fucks .

the fucked up world of Joe Biden ------- thanks nancey. is nancey going to be there for you ? Obama ? biden on TV ? GO STAND WITH THE PROTESTERS PLEASE .
I’m way too risk averse to try to pull something like that off. I would pay it because I signed a contract saying I would. Interested to see how it plays out though.
I’m doing something similar. We’ve paid a little over half our rent beginning in April because 2/4 occupants lost our jobs. Our lease ends before the eviction moratorium is lifted and we’ll owe $7k after they keep our security deposit. It’s hard for me to feel bad when they own 30 buildings across NYC and the same lease has been going for 7 years with minimal repairs. They’ve made plenty of money off of us.
Come on you wuss. Do it. He’s also a fellow spartan Dawg. Going back to chill in northern Michigan for the summer. I’m kind of jealous, truth be told, with his nice nyc salary. We’ve gotten into the legal and practical legal weeds on this for the past few months. He was more conservative at first than I was, but when the building company blew him off with form letter responses and a bunch of bureaucratic bullshit, that put him over the edge. He’s got a clean paper trail and also he sent a certified termination letter that arrives this weekend at their office. They will certainly keep his deposit so it’s 20 grand during a pandemic, laden with a national race crisis layered on top. Will they really take the effort to chase him down in northern Michigan for 20k?
Bump Been using Farm to People lately, which is a great CSA Farm Share that delivers to every borough and Westchester/NJ https://farmtopeople.com/referral.php?id=17606 if you need a referral code for $20 off
love it. Got Nelson to join too basically they get produce from a bunch of local spots and then you choose what you want in your weekly box but can also go a la carte. Really relies on seasonal selections so you get something different every month
