do you ever catch weakfish over where you are?

I caught one on Fernandina Beach a few summers ago and thought it was a cool looking trout. Guy on the beach corrected me

What species are y’all talking about? True weakfish (Cynoscion regalis) are exceedingly rare everywhere, and almost unheard of in NE Florida these days. White/sand trout (C. arenarius) is what I assume is being discussed?

I’m no mycologist so I don’t know the species, but this is a shelf fungus (polypore.)

I caught a weakfish. Looked like a speckled trout but way more spots

sand trout over here are another species of trout that are smaller and all silver. They school up in deep holes when it gets really cold

Took the girls fishing today. They lost interest pretty fast but played in the water and found a baby snapping turtle. My 5 year old's favorite thing was the fish on a stringer. Finally had good action on dry flies and my wife tried out the fly rod and caught one with it. Had smoked and pan fried trout for supper.

Soaked bait for a few hours. My least favorite kind of fishing, but my 5yo can do it. Was back at the ramp by 10:30. It's hot.

He likes fishing. I slowly eased him into it and never tried to force it on him. Short trips and making sure to bail on plans for "good" fish in favor of him catching some catfish or ladyfish when I could tell he was getting bored.

This is by far is biggest fish and he's been talking about if non stop since. My dad was with us today as well, so that was even cooler.

Ha funny for a few reasons. We call them ladyfish. Skipjacks, or leather jackets, here are those skinny looking Jack cravelle Looking things that have poison spines and will mess your day up worse than a catfish sting.

He actually caught that redfish on a chunk of fresh ladyfish

It's crazy how it is even within a state, or even here, the west coast of Florida

Greenbacks are used for two different types of baitfish. Pilchards/white bait and threadfins

How rough is the water where you fish?

I have a hobie compass and the their new outback 360 is a big want of mine but it's expensive as fuck.

The Kaku zulu and voodoo are ones guides around my area use. But they are almost always in flatter water in creeks and stuff. They absolutely swear by them.

Caught this porker today. About 700 feet down, we thought we were hung up for about a half hour. Electric reel started smoking and we couldn’t gain any ground on it. After working it for an hour, we finally prevailed.

    32 pounds.

Idk even know what those are. I don't really offshore fish, but we have gags and I think they catch blacks and reds way out. I've never been deep like that. Its only like 50 ft deep 20 miles off st Pete beach

Snowy is arguably the best eating grouper.

You can catch them in the gulf, but you’re better off going up to like Louisiana and going off the oil rigs where the water is super deep.

We went out of port canaveral today to the Gulf Stream, probably for the tile in the pic around 50 miles out.

It’s a bit anticlimactic since you’re literally just pushing a button and watching it get reeled up, but you run into instances where you hook into some serious and delicious fish, like the one above. We had to keep circling the line with the boat to try and horse up the fish. I’m almost positive we had two on the line early on because one 32 lb tile shouldn’t smoke an electric reel and there was an empty hook once we brought it to surface.
