I just cleaned and checked all my mags for my BCM AR and FN FNX 45.

I have about 500 rounds for each. I’ve been meaning to pick up a standard Mossberg 12 gauge. Might do it sooner rather than later.

Definelty feel like a prepper but idc now that I have a family to look after.

So I wanna build my first 300 blackout. Wanna run it suppressed, can't decide between pistol and SBR, thinking ~8" barrel. Also I think I want the Law Tactical folder. Budget: idk, $3500? Been doing a little research and there's just so many options its overwhelming. Help me gun snobs!

Budget is flexible. I know there's a point of diminishing returns with this stuff and that's something else I'm still trying to figure out.

Hopefully it’s super flexible along with your timeline. My last stamp took 9 months.

What kind of gun safes do you guys have? I’m not looking for something crazy just a little fire protection and to keep them locked up from the kids.

I got this when it was on sale for like $250 or $300. It was the largest I could transport in my vehicle and move into place with the help of a friend. I’m not expecting the contents to survive a fire, just a secure place to house guns, documents, cash, and other valuables.

I got a gun cabinet for like $99 when I had my townhouse and bolted it to the studs in my closet. Kept them secure and it was easy to move upstairs.

Yea someone could have broken into it with enough time but I wasn't real worried about that.

I have a 2 gun nightstand safe (fingerprint or keypad) next to the bed that I got on Academy for like 120 bucks and a 7 gun closet safe that was slightly more expensive. I have seen a lot of videos on youtube of a ton of the quick access handgun safes being defeated by lock picking etc but unless a kid is super determined to become a master thief, I feel like they mostly serve their purpose just fine

Stack-On 28 gun. Keypad went out in the first year, so can't recommend. Now I just use the key every time. Whatever you buy, buy more than you think you need. It won't hold near as much as you think when you have it organized like you like it. My 28 has like, 10 long guns, 4 pistols, and a decent amount of ammo cans in it. Two shelves have some family heirloom jewelry and important documents.

Agreed about buying bigger than you think you need. The safe I linked earlier on the page is listed as a “12 gun” but was at capacity with a 22LR, AR, shotgun, and three pistols hanging from the shelf. Cramming ammo and other boxes in there was a challenge.

I have a Browning safe that had an electrical locking system. The lock went out and I wasn’t able to open in for about 5 years. The only gun I didn’t have in there was my Sig 9mm carry pistol. Had called two previous locksmiths and neither were able to get it open. Called a guy who came out Tuesday and got it open in less than 30 min. Had my Remington 12g, Benelli 20g, a few 45s, a few 9mms, my .22 pistol, and my AR that I purchased in 2014 and haven’t put a round through yet due to it being locked. I also have a S&W .357 magnum in there that I missed shooting.

I am looking to buy my first concealed carry handgun. I really like the look and capacity of the SA Hellcat. I need to go to a store and hold, feel and take a look at it. Has anyone had experience with this gun good or bad? From what I’m gathering in research is lots of brand loyalty within the handgun market makes it kind of hard to get objectivity in reviews, etc.

I was in the same boat as you when I was looking at a carry pistol. I shot everything in every caliber from .380 ACP to .357 Mag at the range. Borrowed pistols from friends to try things out, too. What it came down to was the gun and caliber I was most accurate with. For me, it was just a lot of range time and trial and error.

Edit: Tried to be vague because I didn’t want to persuade you one way or another. However, this is my carry set up:

Sig P938 with a 7 round magazine for extra stability in my hand.

I’ll second a lot of what Lucky24Seven said and add that it’s almost easier to start with a caliber and then move to a particular handgun. The opposite approach is okay since a lot of manufacturers offer similar setups in different calibers, this is just my :twocents

I needed to practice with my carry pistol a lot, which meant affordable round costs and comfort with the firing of that round. I decided on 9mm. At that point, most ranges will have your more common subcompact 9mms from Glock, Ruger, S&W. I ended up on the shield, but provided you shoot a bunch beforehand and pick one you like, it’s hard to go wrong.

TL;DR - decide on a caliber, buy a lot of it, shoot a lot of options in that caliber, buy a gun, continue to shoot it a lot

Excellent, this is all very helpful. :beerchug:

The other option I’ve gone and shot is the FN 509 Compact in 9MM. It seems to be a tad bigger and not as “new” but I’ve gathered FN is a top product.

Edit: “Tad” bigger is inaccurate, there is a sizable difference... clearly need to do some more research

Springfield makes a fine handgun. Couple things to keep in mind. It only carries 9+1 in 9mm, which is a lot less than other similarly sized handguns. As a 1911 its also “”SA”” so something to get proficient with if not familiar. Really depends on the purpose and what you like.

For instance a Glock 17 is the same size, weighs less both loaded and unloaded, carries 17 rounds standard, and has the same repetitive safe action DA trigger. But Glocks arent everyones cup of tea. So again really depends what youre looking for.

I dislike two-tone. The fact that “operator” is in the name is a little cringey.

That said, I have this SA 1911 and it’s easily my favorite handgun to shoot.

If you want a range weapon or a safe queen, the 1911 platform is fantastic. If this is a home defense weapon, I’d urge you to look at a double stack full size composite pistol like a Glock 17.

Yea, I’m just not really a big fan of glocks. Don’t like the polymer. And I get the downside on the capacity but I’m just going to use this to shoot at a range. Won’t be carrying it and don’t really plan on ever needing it for self defense.

I kind of like the two tone but can see how others wouldn’t. And yea, just planning on using it for the range to shoot rather than home defense.

    Appreciate both of your responses.
