Also on the subject of grass fed beef: never was a huge fan of it, got a bunch from my brother years ago who at the time was working for a grass fed beef label. can def taste the difference (it’s more minerally but also less juicy). I’m starting to not prefer the grain or corn fed cheap stuff. It just has a weird taste and texture to me Walmart has a v good private label grass fed & finished ground beef. If you buy “grass fed” or “pasture raised” you’re just buying the up charge for the cattle having grass pellets mixed into the feed corn *at some point* in its raising. Also all ground bison is going to be grass fed & finished. If you can get it at a decent price and add some bacon grease to it it’s a good option I’m really not spending on anything except food right now and still have an income so I’m trying to eat cleaner and feel less shitty on keto, which has caused me to give up many, many times
Go to for dipping is celery as well, but I make “wheat thins” from the mission tortillas sometimes. Just cut them up, season how you want, and bake them. Think this was 2 wraps, so 6 net in that pile.
Do you guys find you have to cycle off every few months? I have been going pretty hard since the new year and the last few weeks my stomach was more upset and occasionally felt nauseous for no real reason. It’s happened the last few times I have done Keto where after 3 months, feels like my body just needs a break from it. I was pretty strict during the week but had a few too many cheat days down the stretch on the weekend, which may have affected it too. But I wouldn’t feel like that until I was several days in if I did have a cheat meal. Probably should have had more veggies and ate more balanced down the stretch as well. Who knows. Just something I have noticed. Going to try April just eating whatever and trying to practice portion control.
I have broken keto many times for stress eating, socializing etc but not for nauseousness. The shitty feeling I get is low energy and issues sleeping
It’s just three of us in the office now (compared to the normal 15+) and the girls keep taking turns making lunch. It’s super sweet so I can’t say no but I’ve completely lost ketosis and gained 10ish pounds over the last 2 weeks.
Made some mozz sticks today. I wanted them right away so I didn’t freeze them. Big mistake. Not too bad, but it was basically a big glob. Cut some mozzarella from a block and dipped in egg and coated with almond flour. Fried in some canola. The almond flour crisped nicely.
I make dipping crackers from almond flour every week. It's super easy and not as painful as the recipes make it out to be. Must have 2 ingredients: Almond flour and egg. The others are added for taste preference and not necessary. Coconut flour, garlic powder, s&p, olive oil, parm , mozz, etc.. After mixing spread on parchment paper and oil. Put parchment paper on top and spread with hand and rolling pin. Bake at 375. This is the time saver, pull out just as edges start to brown. Now cut into shapes you want. If you do it when it's dough it takes forever and is messy. Put back in until they're as brown/crunchy as you like.
Haha at this point, my work would treat me better if I did have it, but that’s a conversation for a different day.
Made this last night (bacon cheeseburger casserole): https://www.bunsinmyoven.com/low-carb-bacon-cheeseburger-casserole/#wprm-recipe-container-25041 Pretty good overall. Added some sliced roma tomatoes to the top before baking.
I just do it by consistency and taste now but the original recipe I used was on the back of a bag of King Arthur Almond Flour.
I started saving bacon grease in the freezer to use in place of butter or oil with eggs and stuff. Am I doing it right?
Daughter's birthday today so I'ma have some birthday cake. Been in keto since New Year's(2 years overall but I came off during the holidays). Pretty excited.
In the spirit of cinco de mayo I was testing some stuff out. I microwaved some pork rinds with asadero and crushed red pepper flake for about 15 seconds to melt the cheese. It made the pork rinds a chewy stale pile that quick. Going to test in the air fryer and see if that turns out better. Cheese sauces are loaded with carbs.
Flock chicken chips arrived today. 180 calories, 14g fat, 13g protein 0g carbs per 1oz bag. They’re like chicken skin pork rinds. Not great. Not awful. After taste is kind of weird. Really calorie dense and will make good hiking food.
Melt some cheese into some heavy cream to make your own cheese sauce. I used to heat up rotisserie chicken and/or whatever else for toppings in a pan and then add in cheese and heavy cream. Pour that goey mess over your platted pork rinds straight from the bag.
Most definitely. I’ve been doing this for a while. I have a tupperware container in the freezer that I take out when I need it. You can scrape the top with a spoon like Italian Ice. I use it to when I sauté pretty much anything. Anytime I cook more bacon I pour some back in the container.
8oz heavy cream Whip the cream in the mixer Add 8oz container of whipped cream cheese spread Add about 3/4 cup powdered swerve and 4-5 Tbsp peanut butter powder Mix some more. No bake peanut butter cheesecake. ~180 cal and 2g net carbs per 2oz serving. I’m sure there’s a real recipe out there. I just experimented.
Rebel triple chocolate ice cream should be illegal to be a part of any diet. Set it out for an hour to thaw, it’s delicious.
Yea I'e had it the last few days and it's not bad at all. I guess I need to read more about Keto but I thought calories didn't matter all that much, just carbs.
Yeah I eat that and it’s passable as bread for sure. Had a grilled cheese last night that was great. Between this and tortilla wraps, that’s been great for me as it satisfies a craving and you can throw in some meat and cheese and have a balanced meal.
Sort of. Thomas Delaurer has good You Tube videos on why this bread isn’t ideal, but mostly OK in small amounts. Just limit consumption to a sandwich daily or a couple pieces of toast. Better to go with just meats, fats, green veggies, and cauliflower as your mainstays.
Yea I've only been doing it for a week so not that hard so far but being able to have a sandwich or a burger by using this will make it a lot easier.
What's TMB's consensus on net carbs per day? I've seen some say 20, 30, and even 50. I assume it varies by person. And apparently there's tests you can take to make sure you're in keto. Anyone here use them? If so, recommendation?
I got some pee strips off amazon to test keto 20 is obviously hard to stay under I seemed to lose weight well by keeping under 40or 50
I think I've been under 10 most days. One of those Jimmy Dean Meat Lovers Scramble breakfast bowls - 2 Chicken Caesar salad lunch or a sandwich - 4? Sandwich/burger/salad dinner - 5? Drink nothing but Crystal Light Lemonade, water, and Reign Energy Drinks Honestly the hardest thing for me has been giving up Red Bull. I drank one in the morning and one after lunch like it was my job. Switching to a different one sucked but not end of the world. Obviously sweets and stuff that I used to randomly eat are gone but that was more a "it was there so I ate it" thing, not that I craved them.
Do you guys have cheat weekends? If so, how often? Every 6 weeks? I would assume you're better off just having 2-3 days of cheating bc once you're out, you're out? Fried shrimp is my favorite food on the planet and the one thing I will 100% miss.
These things take 2 minutes to make. The already beaten eggs are in the container. The "just an egg" ones are good to but you have to bring your own egg. Sometimes I'll eat as you're supposed to, sometimes I'll put it on that zero net carb bread and make a breakfast sandwich. Good as shit. Didn't know spicy sausage or steak and cheddar existed until I pulled up their site. Need to find those. https://www.jimmydean.com/products/simple-scrambles/
Start low and adjust accordingly. I’m running 20-30 miles per week so I’m having tacos, rice, and beans 1-2x weekly. Not ideal, but it works. We’ll have a larger cheat meal or day every 4-8 weeks. I prefer meal, wife prefers day - she usually wins out.
i’m a holiday/ 3 day weekend somewhat cheater meaning i’ll have a desert or maybe a potato salad type side
I will cheat randomly on keto, but keep my calories in check, usually. I try to do it less than once a week, but there’s no built in cheat days. The thing about keto is that it’s not a try again tomorrow if you have a bad day like just low calorie diets. Once you lose it you have to buckle down and get back.
Yea that's what I've gathered. That's why in my head I was thinking if I'm going to have a shrimp po boy, I may as well just eat all I want for a day or two and then get back to it.
