If that was the case, then barstool wouldn't be any bigger than fuckjerry. But we both know that's not the case...
The stoolie signal must be in the sky. Portnoy is a piece of shit and if you're an adult and still defending him you ought to be embarrassed
I'm not saying you do. I'm just saying it's dumb to have such strong opinions on shit that you know nothing about. That's all.
While Portnoy has become increasingly difficult to defend with his recent takes on Fauci and his both sidesing(?) of the recent protests, it it very difficult for me to reconcile how posters that have participated on this board for years and converse with other posters the way they do, don’t find the humor of *some* Barstool content and this place to be very similar. PMT, pretty much anything Big Cat does, and a few other pieces of content are very, very similar to this board, both now and in the past. It’s odd to me.
this isnt Legends of the Hidden Temple or some shit with a mystic cloud of secrecy Barstool sucks ass. Its a play for the lowest hanging fruit. Its rat poison for aggreived white males, with a positive correlation to lower education levels. You don't need to be in their cult to know that.
Outside of really just portnoy, barstool is extremely liberal. They're nothing like Travis and they all mock Travis pretty regularly. This is just a case of people running with a narrative that they are genuinely clueless about. But do y'all.
Big Cat whining his ass off in 2016 that the mean rhetoric of libs caused him, and his demographic, to vote for Trump....while then continuing to prop up a piece of shit that frequently appears on Tucker Carlson....makes him unamusing to me. Good guy, but the way he's making money is enabling of a toxic culture. He should leave his current employer. The world is burning because of white trash voting for Republicans and he has hardly bothered to publicly acknowledge it. A podcast episode does not count. He did not condemn the Fauci discrediting from his outlet. Video gaming old NCAA games in the midst of George Floyd riots is tone deaf. He probably is screaming, "These mean riots are going to cause suburbanites to vote Republican again". So yea, not funny to me.
barstool is a lifestyle brand for largely reactionary whites. it's Goop but for chuds. this is why stoolies get so defensive, you build it into your identity so criticisms of it become criticisms of you. sure they've liberalized over the last few years by hiring Pft and PMT becoming the original cover for criticisms (and what Pft gets into arguments in his mentions about occasionally). still doesn't cover for the founder being a regular on the white power hour or its decade long cultivation of the above fan base.
Everyone who works there is complicit. We're not talking about people forced to work in the mines in order to not starve or something
So it's just pmt? Not chaps, Kate, kmarko, Nate, rone, Willie colon, Caleb, hell even even KFC? Again, you've made up your mind on the subject, it's whatever. But let's not pretend that you actually know what you're talking about.
i said they've liberalized over the years and just highlighted Pft and PMT as the canary in the coal mine. but again, when the boss is going on the white power hour it's inexcusable
I’ve never seen that about the 2016, so I would be interested in reading it. Your second to last sentence is pretty presumptuous. You are certainly entitled to your opinion that him streaming video games is tone deaf, but I don’t see a difference between that and any other content being released or delivered from any other mediums. We can civilly disagree on what we think is funny, but to label people “chuds” or whatever because they like PMT and other barstool content just because the owner does what he does is a bit much in my opinion.
I'm not going to die on this hill because I've got better shit to do today and don't need you all to enjoy the same entertainment that I enjoy. But the bottom line is, I'm personally pretty far to the left in my political leanings. I campaigned for Bernie in 2016 and have donated to him and AOC. If barstool alienated me, I wouldn't be a fan. I think portnoy has said a lot of dumb shit. But I also realize that barstool isn't just portnoy. If they were anything like Clay Travis, I wouldn't subject myself to them. Again, besides portnoy (and Kirk minihane, who is a hack) it's tough to name a single other conservative who works there. Out of the ~30 content "personalities" that they have working there, I'd say that ~27 of them are openly fairly liberal. That's the truth whether you guys understand that or not
(1) Its not just the owner. Its barstool enterprise-wide. This is like saying the problem is just isolated to Donald Trump, not the entire Republican apparatus. And even if so, you cant separate the two. (2) As to your 2016 skepticism, he had a pretty testy exchange with with Tommy Vietor and Jon Favreau on twitter about it when they were still with The Ringer.
I apologize if it came off as skepticism; wasn’t my intent. I have just never seen it. I think I started following him and Barstool after that. And I see your point on #1; a lot of the Stoolies, especially those in the comment sections and on Twitter, are awful people.
i'm not a ree all barstool fans are chuds person but this last couple year trying to re-write of the history of the company or the basically cult of personality built around Portnoy is a self serving defense imo. the nurtured fan army to brigade anyone who dared criticize them (predominantly the women who did) is the alt-right playbook. like didn't they sell MAGA merch for a while? i'm very literally gotta separate the art from the artist person so i'm open to the argument yall make, but this is a lifestyle brand so it's a tougher pull. i fully understand they're been trying to shave off the rough edges of the foundational era. last big rough edge to shave off is getting rid of portnoy
The vast majority of barstool content is apolitical (save for Portnoy’s going on Tucker Carlson and his dad’s radio show, which is actually a great listen). Now, I understand that in today’s climate that necessarily involves some level of complicity. That point is well made and taken. But, there’s a clear difference between it and Clay Travis leaning into being a self-appointed lib-troll pundit. I get that difference doesn’t matter to many.
Disagree. They are fun. Anyway, back to the purpose of this thread. Fuck Clay Travis. I used to semi-enjoy him when he was on the afternoon show in Nashville. After he started his own show, everything was for clicks and he quickly became unbearable. I transitioned from hate follow to no follow a while back and am glad I did.
Fuck Clay Travis. I don’t seek out Barstool content by any means, but my general opinion is they’ve made real life issues a zero sum game, you either win or you lose. Some of my friends that are the MAGA dicks on social media are big Barstool fans. COVID-19 is a game, Charlottesville is a game, George Floyd is a game, etc. I’m not sure my friends care, but 2016 upped the ante that this is somehow a game and won’t admit that they may have fucked up voting for a terrible person like Trump.
Complicit with what? This may be hard for some on this board to understand, but most people don’t think about politics 24/7.
Spittin chiclets is a very good podcast, that’s all I know about barstool...and that portnoy taste pizzas from different places.
Figured I'd give a specific to the stupid ass broad generalization comment you made, so you're welcome. Thanks for keeping Portnoys boots clean.
It’s cool that we’re gonna just hand-wave online harassment, misogyny, and casual racism just because a couple employees there aren’t scumbags.
I was being serious. We obviously don’t see the Barstool thing the same way; that’s ok. No need for hostility.
Completely agree with the online harassment and misogyny and probably racism of a lot of the fans of barstool on twitter and the comments section. No place for that. I haven’t noticed it by employees other than Portnoy, though. But I get your point about that making others complicit.
It does make me chuckle that Portnoy has somehow gotten harder to defend, as if his behavior and content used to be less loathsome.
Just because you say things doesn't make them true. Go find me an example of "casual racism" from barstool.
TMB had to kick a bunch of racists off as well not too long ago. Does that mean this site is racist? You deal with deep South college football or, in barstool's case, Boston sports fans and you're going to get some racist followers, unfortunately. But they worked to clean it up and I've never seen them promote racist ideology. It's just a lazy narrative that isn't really based on facts.
