think it's pretty telling that Downs is returning to campus in the first wave with "starters and veterans"
Jason's four videos deep in a scouting series on Sam and so far it's basically 15 minutes of him splooging all over the place while comparing Sam to Mayfield Spoiler
I honestly can’t believe how good Sam Howell is/was as a true freshman. The guy throws darts, has a great competitive mindset, and is a solid leader for the team. Hand up, I was happy that he flipped from FSU but absolutely did not think he was going to be anywhere near this kind of difference maker when we got him.
This time last year I fully expected Cade Fortin to get the starting nod and we'd probably end up playing musical chairs a bit with our 3 qbs trying to find the guy
Official. Good stuff all around. Momentum has definitely slowed down some but we have a great core of 15-16.
So McCants is going to be on some podcast with David Noel next week, IC seems pretty split on hearing him out, I'm definitely in the camp that's interested to see what he has to say
I've already spent too much time looking at that and I hate it. Paige Ginyard JJax Wright Davis Les Mac Stepheson My team molly wops yours btw.
Coby Danny Noel Jawad Garrison QT Bradley You've got size capable of spreading the floor or getting to the rim surrounding Garrison to do work, wanted to grab a wing from the $2 option over Tony to give us the option to go small (pretty sure Noel slid to the 5 a little his SR year) but couldn't justify taking any of those guys instead Big Ton would sub in for Jawad here, Garrison slides to the 4
Paige averaged 35.6 MPG as a sophomore; he can handle the load for one game. Plus Ginyard can give him a couple blows early on. Imagining Brooks trying to get up shots or gather rebounds over Davis or Wright would be pretty funny. Also I see you changed from Marshall to Paige, think that's the right pick.
actually scratch that, give me Reyshawn over Jawad, move Noel to the 4, still good size but more versatile and even better on the perimeter, plus Reyshawn won the defensive player award like every game his Sr year again here Bradley subs in for Noel moving Brooks to the 4
Yeah I thought about going Reyshawn/Green on the wings instead of Ginyard/JJ and could be convinced that's the better allocation. No one is getting me off of Davis/Wright in the frontcourt though. Both very solid college defenders and Wright was borderline unstoppable on the offensive end in college.
guarding wright makes me a tad nervous but garrison did fine on zion/bagley so we’ll hope for the best marvin can handle things too before tony spells him
Us three have probably collectively spent more time thinking about this than the guy who actually put it together. Based on the way it's constructed, there are options I feel like you can rule out basically immediately. Examples: 1. Anyone who is not in the $4 PG range. As much as I love Lawson, he's not worth an extra $3 over a Marshall/Berry/Paige/White. I'd argue Felton should be in the $4 range too, because I don't think I'm picking him ahead of some of the options who are a $1 cheaper. 2. Brice Johnson @ $6 when you could have Henson for $5 3. Wes Miller @ $2 when Frasor is the same price.
i was assuming peak pj means i get him for the year he was suspended when he was being called the best wing in the country by bilas and hubert
i like the idea of just taking hans and may and figuring it out frasor b rob graves hans may leslie leaky bobby was a more than capable point and you got decent spacing with him and the two wings. leaky gives you some versatility at the point and small ball
Think Felton's a cut above because all of the pg's in the $4 option were either skewed towards scoring or passing whereas Ray gives you both at a high level, agreed though that it's not worth the extra money
Yeah don't hate that lineup, but I think PG is too important in a Roy offense. Would trade May for Henson and pick one of the $4 PGs.
someone made a good point in the replies. if we’re talking peak guys, getting a first team all pac 12 point for $1 is good value.
Hahah; most hated player of the Roy era for sure ... trying to remember if there's anyone else even close.
I don't even hate Larry tbh, just don't think much of him I'd probably feel differently if his backup wasn't instantly better though
or if we had him in 2012 when kendall went down dude was overrated but having him in the elite 8 instead of stillman woulda made a difference
He just submarined what should have been a pretty damn good team. No way a team with that much frontcourt talent should have gone 5-11 in the ACC. Davis/Zeller/Thompson with Henson at the 3 (oof).
ed missed a ton of time. we had some good wins in the non con and acc play fell apart when he went down (remember zeller missing an extended stretch too)
As someone who doesn't care for UNC, I think you are forgetting how good Felton was. I could see maybe taking White if you are projecting him to play through his junior year but the other 3 aren't in Felton's league.
My second take here, starting off with Coby and Zeller then building around them Coby PJ Reyshawn Ed Zeller Larry Leslie Sub Ed out, PJ busts out his small ball 4 role again with Leslie at the 2 I seem really caught up on having a lineup capable of going big/small, but it's also because I look at that $1 big option and see Stepheson who I don't really want at the 4 and Knox isn't much bigger than PJ
That's a pretty damn good team. If you take the idea that you are getting "Peak UNC performance" from any of the players, I might swap FR Coby for SO/JR Paige, but I like it a lot. Credit, I think that team might even be favored against mine; frontcourt has a nice balance of scoring & rebounding/defending.
My thing with Coby is you get the perimeter shooting of Paige/Berry plus the best penetrating threat and tempo pusher since Lawson, only thing is I'm strictly looking at skillsets and not really factoring intangibles that come with being an upperclassman
The other thing if you're talking intangibles, specifically clutch (which does or does not exist depending on who you ask), SR Berry & SO Paige had a ridiculous run of coming up clutch when it counted. Lawson never really needed to be because we were blowing people out and/or other people on that team took the big shots, but I always felt confident with Paige & Berry coming down the stretch in a tight game.
The one memory that gave me pause when picking Coby over Paige was Marcus single handedly bringing us back in the Nova championship game, not to mention the other big shots he hit late in games. Really I don't think you can go wrong with any of the $4 pg options, I'm 100% picking from that bucket though.
I remember his sophomore year being insane with clutch shots; one against NCSU stands out (assuming that was Soph, but not sure). From that stretch on, I just thought he was going to make everything when it counted, and he missed a couple big ones both Jr and Sr year. You are right though, the Nova championship was vintage clutch Paige. edit: found the Youtube clip; was indeed 2014 and was as electric as I remember
My best attempt. Not sure about scoring but like the defense and intangibles. Hans Coby Theo Ginyard Drew II Knox Q
