Aight dog bros, have a question about Nugget. Need to make a pretty big decision about surgery. I'm leaning towards surgery, but would appreciate re-assurance/2nd opinion. A few months ago, Nugget caught a bad Pneumonia and developed a huge mass on his throat -- it looked like he had a baseball under his throat. He underwent some more imaging, and another mass was revealed on his spleen. I thought he was done for. But, the fluid from his throat retreats, he gets over his sickness, and he's as healthy as a 10.5 year old, 80 lb boxer can be. My ex-GF, who works in the vet's clinic, has been recommending surgery to remove both masses. I trust her 100% with his well-being, she probably cares more about him than me at this point. He went in for CT scans again today, and his throat mass has grown a bit over 2-3 months. It has not yet spread into his lungs, but from my talk with the doctor, the more it grows, the more it can encroach, and the more it can spread -- once it makes its way to the lungs, it's gameover. The mass on his spleen is unchanged, but is a cause for concern. So now they want to do surgery to remove both masses. Aside from the Pneumonia, Nugget has had zero health problems in years. I'm incredibly reluctant to put a dog of his age under anesthesia fora very invasive procedure, for something he is not exhibiting any symptoms. Of course, the flip side is that we do nothing, these masses grow, and in 2-3 months we've missed the opportunity to remove them safely. Or, because of his age and other bad luck, the surgery could go poorly. Further, the surgery could be totally unnecessary (but no way to know). I'm leaning towards surgery, but just worried about having him go through with a possibly unnecessary surgery with so much risk. Even if surgery goes well, that is a tough recovery for an older, big dog. Sorry for the length. Just kind of stream-of-consciousness after talking with the vet.
Well, radiologist just looked at his findings and think the cancer has spread, and surgery wouldn't do much good. Not entirely surprising. Just going to try and give him the best summer possible. Taking him into the woods this weekend to supervise a construction project.
I’m sorry, Man. That fucking sucks. I’ve enjoyed looking at the pictures you’ve posted of your dog over the years. Keep us updated with how his summer is going. I know he’s got some great adventures in front of him. Fuck cancer.
jesus that sucks, so sorry to hear. Sometimes they can give you longer than you think, especially if he is happy.
Much appreciated guys. Not going to be doom and gloom yet. Take it day by day, make sure he's comfortable and happy. And probably not going to be so strict on giving him that extra treat.
I'm sorry for the news, but I hope you do take some solace in getting an early reminder that you can make the most out of his time.
My corso/pit mix LOVES to play in mud puddles, the more water and mud the better, but he is terrified of getting in the lake or taking a bath. it's weird af.
Had to take my doggo to the vet for seasonal allergies. This strain of bermuda grass I have has her itching like crazy. Hopefully the apoquel works since nothing else has so far.
Had to send my guy to training. He got a little to rough with the baby trying to play. All completely my fault for not training and the way I have played with him. He wasn't aggressive but still worried us that he might do something on accident. Mad at myself for not being a better owner and I miss the guy while he is off training.
My neighbor has these really poorly trained, large dogs. They always jump against the wood fence that separates our backyards and now it’s leaning fairly significantly. Just had dax in the backyard but had to go in as these two were going so wild they literally were almost jumping high enough to get over the fence How should we proceed with this?
They have beware of dog signs up so doesn’t really make me feel great about their potential aggression
"Fishing" Laken actually spent most of the time spotting fish in the creek and trying to chase them down Was funny I could watch the ripple in front of her clearly out running her
It is ours. I know that we need to fix it. But it is annoying because the other two sides of the fence are perfectly fine and it’s clear his dogs have contributed (probably largely) to it leaning
I was curious if you might be able to ask them to contribute to fixing it because their dog destroyed it. Otherwise it would probably be easy enough to brace with some 2x4 until you can repair it properly
I’m gonna talk to him today. Do you think 50/50 is a reasonable ask? People on our neighborhood Facebook group have this argument all the time and that seems to be the consensus
Yes, I would say 75/25 on his part, but your neighbor sounds like a dick head so I’d be thrilled if it was 50/50 if you got that.
Just kidding, I love dogs too much for this. The owner is a goddam idiot, the dogs should not get the shit. Tough situation you got there devine
Have you tried sucking his dick? But really, he sounds pretty terrible and should contribute. I'd be surprised if he does, but I'm hoping for the best for you and Dax
Poor little baby girl lucy had emergency eye surgery. She had a scratch on her eye that got worse and almost prolapsed her iris. She had to have a corneal graft or either remove her eye. She got the graft but poor little pug love is shaking with pain and just quietly whimpering.
Took Teddy over to my parents today to hang out with my mom's dog and he's a puppy and nips while playing. My mother encourages the behavior even though I tell her to tell the dogs "No" and to separate them. Let's the dogs jump all over her and fight over the couch and will just laugh it off. Well today, mom's rescue pit flipped a switch and attacked Teddy. He's got a small hole above his lip that didn't go through and I was able to stop the bleeding. Glad it was only that bad. Absolutely despise the way my mother treats her problem dog. She never tell him, "No" or corrects his behavior because she treats him like a child. Her dog has bit their next door neighbor's little girl, my grandmother, and handymen that have come to the house. Never again am I taking him over there. On my way out I yelled, "Treat Radar like a fucking dog and not a child or grandchild or one of these days you're going to get a complaint and he's going to be put down." I'm fucking heated.
i don’t understand how people can’t grasp this, the dog is not well in a situation like this. It can only end up one way
He's already bit the neighbor's little girl. Didn't draw blood, but I'm surprised it hasn't gotten a complaint yet
