I played on team Georgia’s football team with him 3 years in a row. Dude was a baller. He was arguably the best return man in the state his senior year
The song is fire with a great message that speaks to everyone. Might be my favorite track so far this year.
I’ve never heard 1999 so that’s what I’ll do tonight. the producer lineup on that tape is absurd well, repurposed beats anyway
I’ve been playing this quite a lot over the past month and saw it was its 20th ave yesterday. Thought it was quite the coincidence. Top 10 hip hop album of all time imo
it really is exceptional, just an unreal groove over the whole album. You can hear the future influence on producers like Kanye, Timbaland etc. there. was thinking about my favorite 90's albums after circling back to some underrated ones and came to the realization it was almost all Native Tongues or what you'd call alternative. Might be just me, but a lot of the harder hitting stuff that we just chalk up as classic or influential isn't nearly as listenable or aged as well. There's obvious highlights on those albums, but they're very hit or miss to me. Lot of dead spots.
Houseshoes is ripping through everything vol ii, samples, remixes, etc rn. history lessons. www.twitch.tv/shoeshouse
That Lil Baby song is horrible. I try to not absolutely shit on these new school guys but lil baby is an absolute trash can of epic proportions
Right. But that song wasn’t released to put on his all time hit list. He released it to support the cause. I’m not saying he/anyone/everyone has to like it. But it seemed that he treated the song like it was some random single dropped on a Tuesday, when the point of it was to bring awareness.
I’m not hating on the message (even tho there’s some all lives matter stuff in there that I’m sure drew Saul in). I’m hating on the song and his existence in general. He’s terrible and rn to me outside of Tekashi he’s the most depressing aspect of modern hip hop
I know nothing about him but the sound of that song is what I hate about a lot of hip hop in 2020. Poorly biting Migos, which is trash to begin with even if I can bop to it.
Hey I do my best to try and understand the landscape and try not to be too judgmental .The message is fine and it’s admirable that he’s using his gigantic clout to get it out. I’ll leave it there
I don’t see what’s wrong with Lil Baby and other similar rappers if you take them at face value. They make a lot of fun music.
Bro no offense but you (and sometimes others itt ) dont do a good job of it. Outside of self admitted plants like tekashi and lil pump, everyone has a fanbase.
This isn't meant to be an asshole comment, but I honestly think it's because Patches is older and enjoys a different style of hip hop than what Baby and a lot of the current music makes.
Just because artists are new or young doesn't make them bad. It's their music that makes them good or bad. And just because they have a fanbase doesn't make them good. I have a perspective from country music where there's a ton of new shit that's terrible. It's not that it's new that makes it terrible. It's that the new style that everyone is copying to get famous sucks a bag of dicks. This exactly.
I definitely have my moments will not deny that but I’ve also went to war for this generation several times on this board. I find a ton of music made now that I absolutely adore. Some of it is some of my favorite music ever. When you grow up loving hip hop like I did and you come from an era where it was at its peak as an art form while simultaneously watching it struggle mightily to gain respect for the beauty it brought to the table... it gets a little discouraging to see it get watered down by some of these guys. Baby is massive rn and I get that a lotta people dig that vibe but from a quality standpoint I just feel like it steers the ship in the wrong direction.
In hip hop the repetitive beat and flow with no enunciation and intermingled shitty autotune in the bars is awful. Some people will like it and I don't blame them for it. That's their taste. I think if the sound is the same and a dude can't ride a beat and they have to autotune his voice to make it palatable he probably sucks at what he does but that's just me. I also like people who are original.
When your biggest hit is Drip Too Hard cmon that’s trash don’t care if you got 20000000000 Zillion teenies bumping your shit, artistically and lyrically there isn’t anything profound about it........but I’m an old man so I grew up with hip hop that had to be on point lyrically so I’m biased
Personally, I agree with all of this. Sometimes I just think TrustyPatches hip hop headness gets too far away from the rest of the thread, and the thread can suffer
