Those were 100000% better than watching Pelini led games. I was in Portland and would set my alarm for 6:30 on a Saturday just so LisaAnn could be there waiting for her Deany. “Deany, I’m clearly a fan of a hard D, lol, and we know our Husks have the hardest D in the country, do you think the D is going to plug a hole today? Maybe 2 holes at the same time?”
BWC do you fux with CRISPR at all? Was wondering how the cell/molecular bio community thinks about articles like this: https://onezero.medium.com/scientis...in-the-lab-and-it-was-a-disaster-9473918d769d
Not directly, but it's impossible to avoid these days in biotech (not that one would want to avoid it necessarily, it's cool as hell, but yeah, scary as well). The whole CRISPR babies mess with Dr. He Jiankui came out a week before I taught the bioethics portion of my intro course in Fall 2019, so that was ideal discussion fodder. It was actually really interesting to be in China when that happened. Their scientific community was PISSED and rightfully so. We include CRISPR in our cell bio/biochem curriculum for sure. It's made its way into the Alberts ECB book as of the 5th edition (2018). My PhD lab was primarily focused on cell and tissue mechanics, but we began discussing CRISPR in our journal club about a year after its invention ~2014. Generally, my read is that the research community has taken a hesitant approach with applications in modifying embryos, given the grave eugenics implications. I think the situation with Dr. He helped to pull the reigns back a good deal more, but that undercurrent was already present. I love the history behind CRISPR. Pretty damn amazing that it was essentially invented by two separate labs at the same time with very minimal cross-seeding of ideas.
I too miss the days of waking up early just to ask Shaun if he’d ever seen two pelinis handle a stiff d like they did the last weekend.
The best thing about that chat is it had nearly zero traffic before we found it. Pretty much just navythomas. And then we found navythomas08 on YouTube one day and it turns out he is an incredibly bizarre, almost troll-like character himself.
My last western blot/bench work was 2007 and haven’t looked back so it’s a pretty wild ride reading about it. Seems like an amazing tool.
Yeah the chats had me in literal tears every Saturday morning. Then finding Navy Thomas's youtube videos of his conspiracy porch rants and helmet cam videos of him driving his dirt bike around council bluffs just made it all the better
I touch on crispr and gene editing in the AP Biology course I teach. Whole section on bioethics and biotech, I like it but it is creepy, hard to imagine screwing with the odds game of human genetics. We actually take a strain of e-coli and insert a fluorescent p-Glo gene which makes glow green under black light.
Between now and the season starting (if it does), how many times will Frost mention the fact we had two spring practices while other teams had 15? He’s 2/2 so far in the “big” interviews he’s done the last week or so.
Somebody on twitter said Lehtovsky, or whatever his hogmollie name is, said the Berhart is currently 6’10” and weighs 340. Trying to figure out if it’s bullshit or not.
In respect to him, you can get a shit ton of development and installs done with 2 weeks of practice and film/meetings, not to mention walkthroughs. I’m sure he’s not the only coach sour about it though
Tremendous upside, but humans, as we know, generally suck, so we'll find a way to fuck it up. Also, Dr. Malcolm's sage advice tends to rule the day in the long run. Doesn't mean we shouldn't keep trying to prove him wrong imo.
Dont disagree, just feels like there’s always SOMETHING for him to “remind” the fans about when we’re on like Week 10, so more just anticipating this coming up continuously.
Real good to have those baked in excuses set up in advance in case (when) the season goes poorly. “ “
We were discussing this last night. We keep out house at 76 when we're up and then 75 when we go to sleep. We're also in south Florida and used to heat. My dad in Nebraska keeps his house at 67 year round.
75 during the day and 73 at night here on the other coast. Pretty much keep it that way for 10.5 months and have the windows open for the rest of the time.
77 during the day and 70 at night in the blazing Arizona heat...leads to some disturbing electric bills.
No AC in the apartment in SoCal, don’t really notice it until July-September when I want it be around 68-69°
I died because in my mind a typical Husk would think there’s an actual place named Koreatown, California, USA.
huskeronline.com is a cesspool. There needs to be a BLM level of shaming for actively paying subscribers.
Every damn time I watch the Brook Berringer thing on BTN I start crying like a baby during the funeral clips and when his mom is reading the letters. Tonight was no different. Dude was fucking 22.
Yep, that's why I'm out once my sub is up in August. Don't wish to be associated with that trash heap anymore. Matya gave a good reminder of why that's the only proper course of action today as well.
Lost his shit in the Twitter thread because the first post in it was a tweet about the odds of a CFB season being played being approximately 50/50. Went full rwnj w/r/t COVID, this about a week after he posted the patented "RSS is once again politics (and COVID) free." Included in the no polotiks poast was the second instance in which he has declared COVID over (first instance was back in April I think).
I haven't been on RSS since like 2010. Could tell that place was going downhill for quite a while back when Sam, LH, and co. were basically bullshitting everybody nonstop.
Very admirable. Good on them. https://www.omaha.com/sports/colleg...cle_d49b6e2f-05c0-5cec-98d6-1fe58275fd75.html
