I assume this will allow him to play next year and then transfer with immediate eligibility. Probably the best move since visits are screwed up and he can assess the depth chart closer to when he can play.
Agree but I worry what a year in the middle of nowhere will do for him. This was a guy who struggled big time to stay focused on football. Don’t know if he has the motivation to do what it takes to get back on track.
Maybe he’s going to the middle of nowhere so he can focus on football for a semester and then transfer out.
I hope so for his sake, but I find it difficult to believe that a kid who was breaking curfew to smoke weed the night before a game is going to stay committed to making the right decisions.
I think VT actually kicked the wheels on him really late in the process but had to snag someone else, I think maybe because of a late transfer. Land, funny enough, was a VT commit for a very long time (he actually debuted as like a top 50 player before everyone discovered he was done growing when he was like 16) but his HS coaches polluted his decision and he backed out. Land would probably be in the two-deep at VT right now.
ah yea, I forgot where he headed after the VT commit. I think Fuente would have kept his commit (he verbaled to VT when he was a sophomore iirc so everyone just assumed he'd keep growing) but Christ almighty he's just tiny, that's what killed him. If he was 6'1 he'd have probably been a 5*.
Seriously don't understand how that happens. Hey want to go to a large state school that plays in a top league or a fundamentalist Christian school where they hate black people and no one knows what league you play in?
I'm not really sure what happened but it all transpired on NSD-eve so it's very possible Maryland pushed him out or the other possibility is his recruiter, former 757 area HS coach Chris Beatty, then a Maryland co-OC, got hired at Pitt in late January and maybe that affected his spot, like Beatty fought to keep him but when Beatty left they decided to dump Land. the timeline on this kid was wild. he committed to VT before his sophomore season even started and back then, his size, which is basically unchanged, wasn't an issue because tons of kids are 5'8'' when they're 15. his coaches get in his head and he de-commits early 2017. at this point, he was getting offers based on early film and him being committed to VT so he picks up UF, UT, UGA, Auburn, etc. as he goes only then schools start figuring out his size never changed from his sophomore to junior seasons and they all back off him. as a rising senior I think everyone finally just said "find someone who will take you and go there before they yank your offer" and he jumped in with Maryland and rode them to NSD when that mess happened and Liberty was probably the best D1 school that would take him so late and not be forever away (VT, Maryland, and Liberty for a 757 kid means he wanted to stay close to home).
Packed on too much weight and got passed by two true freshmen and then Journey Brown came out of nowhere last year. He continued to get touches, much to the chagrin of everyone after September, and just never made much of an impact besides two long runs against Michigan and Memphis. We expected him to follow Rahne to ODU once he took that job.
Shit he might light up whatever division of football that is just by not having Gus coaching him. Never heard of him though I wish him well.
Guy has the highest career completion percentage in the history of your school, pal. Like I said, it’s a VERY big loss. 2019: Saw first game action vs. Samford ... 2-2 passing for 17 yards ... SEC academic honor roll
