06 top 6-7 players weren’t bad at all. Better than other drafts they did. Aldridge Roy Lowry Rondo Millsap Redick Gay
yeah apparently the Lakers should've drafted Granger over Bynum even though Andrew's crazy ass was a key part of 2 fucking titles
Things didn't go well when Russillo told them "I didn't even vote for Obama...bet you didn't guess that"
“The rigged draft lottery conspiracy theorists were proven wrong when Portland and Seattle went ahead of Boston in ‘07”. -Bill Simmons, the only draft lottery conspiracy theorist I’m aware of
I just listened to the Back to the Future Rewatchables, and the silence over Bill's 2 minute riff on Doc Brown's library of 70s pornography/ having one night stands is deafening. More than ever, I am positive all the complaints about Mallory are just from dudes uncomfortable with expressions of female sexuality.
maybe it's because I was a Big Mac fan during the 98 chase, but I just don't get the anger from JackO or anybody really when it comes to that 30 for 30. It certainly seemed like a puff piece love letter from a BFiB filmmaker but I just don't feel out for blood with the steroid baseball players. Also kind of a bad look from JackO to get that upset about McGwire and Sosa when everything Trump does usually generates a chuckle or sigh at best from him.
The '07 redraft was less painful than I was expecting. I did like the high praise of Brandon Roy within about 60 seconds of dumping on Oden for only playing 3 years when Roy really only had 4. Obviously Roy was an all-star, etc. Russillo needs to trademark "ok this is different"
Really the worst part isn't that Durant is as great as he is. It's how Oden looked in his second season before getting hurt in 24 mins/game 11 points on 60% shooting, 5 boards (3 offensive), 2 blocks also hits 76% of his free throws
I didn’t think it was bad at all. I figured people would like Russillo calling Bill out a few times. I was surprised JackO got so heated but I thought his takes on the baseball stand-off was really good.
The 09 draft redraftable with Simmons on Lowe's pod today was fun until the end where he goes into the Pistons' history of that era. I'm sure ZeroPointZero will also love the random shot at LeBron's legacy Bill takes out of nowhere towards the back half of the lottery.
Liked Russillo’s pod with Van Pelt. Those guys have good chemistry. I never listened to their radio show but get why it was liked.
I listened to the Simmons pod with JJ the other day, too. It was good because I like JJ, but he brought up the Celtics at least 4 times for no reason at all. He just can't stop himself. He was really complimentary about LeBron on that one, though.
Bill’s superhero movie take was bad, especially coming from a guy who loves every terrible action movie from the 80s/90s and the Fast franchise
Roadhouse I’m cool with. Haven’t seen the Jack Reacher movies. I’m really shocked he hasn’t done one Rocky movie yet.
don't have strong feelings one way or another about the diversity at the ringer, but it was pretty funny in that article that they got some backlash for having a white podcast host that recapped the tv show 'atlanta' and simmons' response was ....she approached us and wanted to do it
Anyone know what the next Rewatcheable is? Was maybe going to rewatch or watch tonight whatever it is.
I just listened to the Simmons/Russillo pod from last night. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems to me that Simmons did that pod in part knowing that story was coming. 75% of the pod is basically them talking about their pod/broadcast experience and Simmons goes talks several times about how not everyone can do it and how much work it takes to be good at it.
I actually enjoyed it. Bill was basically going on about how bad he was in the beginning in 2007. I also liked their stories on who they interviewed.
Doing that pod only a short time after those two were destroyed for their pod on social justice protests was also a very bizarre call. Simmons said one of the things he learned early on is to not run pods if they aren't good. Seems like he forgot that lesson a few weeks ago.
I finally made it through The Wire for the first time and have been enjoying Hill and Van Lathan’s podcast. My one gripe is with their “I love this show BUT...” category as it usually involves them pontificating about something in the legal system or criminal world that they’re entirely wrong about, but it’s a small complaint and I chuckled to hear that they’ve received a lot of correspondence correcting their misunderstandings. “No one would EVER write a statement for the police if they’d already cleared a charge!” Oh word, really? Could you please tell like every client I’ve ever had that, because almost none of them seem to understand the simple instruction, “don’t talk to the police.”
Dwight was 23/14 and DPOTY that season. He was a good MVP candidate. Wade is just some weird Bayless-level take Bill’s been stuck on lately.
It has been extremely noticeable that after Russillo did what he did that the Sunday pods with him (which we've had two since the incident) have had what, 5-10 total minutes on current events? They recorded the entire Redraftables a couple Fridays ago for last week and then spent a half hour on their radio careers before a few minutes on concerns about the NBA coming back. It's... weird. I get that they don't want a fuckup like happened recently, but to not even spend at least a half hour, if not more, on the concerns with the players, if we'll have it, etc. is so off because it's all anyone is discussing right now. Not to mention baseball and what's happening there. I get why, but it's a bad look.
They've both talked about that stuff on their own pods with other people, right? I haven't listened to a Russillo pod in a long time, but I've seen some tweets with a synopsis of talking points and it said he talked about Kyrie, at least. Bill did a 30+ minute pod with JJ almost entirely about the concerns and just the plan in general. I can see why Simmons, especially, would feel like he's already covered that ground and doesn't need to go over it in long form again a few days later. I've also just accepted that no one is going to talk about baseball ever for the last decade+.
They have but it’s strange to me that they’re essentially ignoring it right now when their Sunday night pods were exclusively built on the NBA when they first started doing them. Especially when they were doing so a ton before shit hit the fan.
They should ditch the current events talk altogether imo. I respect that Bill and Ryen have opinions about current events like anyone else but I don't really want to hear them as a consumer of their podcasts. I'm not learning anything in the 1-30 minutes of it that I can't get from what I already know and what I can learn from twitter in about 2 minutes. The stuff I listen for is people talking about the NBA who can watch way more than me and have inside info on top of that. That falls into the range of "shut up and dribble" but I don't really care
Agreed if there is no nfl I’m really going to miss guess the lines and parent corner. Usually went for a walk every Monday after work and listened to the entire pod
They rightly feel they have to talk about it. The problem is they aren’t knowledgeable on the subjects and are trying to not alienate part of their fan base. So it comes out as useless. The British soccer podcasts I listen to benefit from having people from different countries on and they aren’t afraid of calling Boris Johnson a turd. So it can be done.
