Harvested a few zucchini already, tomatoes and okra are coming along nicely too. My biggest issue is when I’m pulling weeds or hoeing, my 2 year old wants to help pull weeds. So far he’s pulled up my jalapeño and banana pepper plant.
We had that with my 2 year old. She's learned now and the 5 and 7 year old help police her. She'll still step through the rows though.
I have a crape myrtle in my back yard that’s probably at least fifty years old and way bigger than one should be because it never got trimmed by previous owner. The last few days I noticed the outer layer of bark coming off rapidly only to look more closely and see a film of what looks like silk everywhere going about thirty feet up. I hosed it all off and it’s already back in a lot of places today. Am I/ the tree going to die?
changed out a sprinkler head today and noticed my grass was really dry. Didn't think too much of it because of the recent heat wave but after replacing the sprinkler head, the zone wouldn't turn on. I checked other zones and none of them would turn on. Checked the main valve and it was open. Then manually turned a valve in one of the zones and the zone turned on. Now every zone works fine. Now I'm wondering why it stopped working and how manually turning a solenoid on one of the zones fixed it.
Almost looks like powdery mildew but I’d 100% assume it’s fungal regardless and try treating with an anti fungal application.
theyll shed bark normally. I don’t know what the white stuff could be. There’s a guy named Neil Sperry who has a Facebook page and he’s a crepe expert. He’ll be able to tell you
8th straight day of tomato sandwiches for lunch and/or dinner SIR that is no way to talk about a legend
Also I have been invaded by morning glory where they came from I don’t know but I am constantly pulling them out
I have a community garden. Lots of fence lines. I tried to be ultra vigilant pulling them out last summer / fall around my plot, but basically no one else did their part so they're popping up everywhere. What's more, they grow like 4 feet a day after it rains. Oh, and update: warm winter followed by a cool, soggy spring here in the midatlantic = Slug City. Those fuckers put a hurting on a bunch of my pepper plants -- real setbacks. But, even with a cold start to May (frost a couple of nights), I might still get close to a 4th of July tomato.
PIcked 7 pickling cucumbers, 2 slicing cucumbers, and 3 zucchini today. Watermelon is starting to spread and the pumpkins have popped up.
I think it would break momma bird's heart, and I can't do that. that corner of my garden is her's (until a thunderstorm comes and knocks that nest down... it's logged up in a bunch of pea vines)
I was joking. Would do the same thing you’re doing. Any way to fortify the nest? Stakes around the sides?
My wife threw this together to put herbs on for the garden I extracted honey today and ended up with ~13 gallons Spoiler The one on top is this year, the ones on bottom are last year Bees cleaning up And then one of our goats was being to rough with the girls, so we put them up for sell. Guy traded gave us a 5 month old steer and $100 bucks for the 2 goats. Going to grow it out for the freezer.
It was actually staring at the livestock guardian dog. They didn't know what to make of the steer. Neither did they lambs, they ran away from him. He kept following them around the pasture.
My pears are coming along. The garden is doing better, other than zucchini, which have fallen to the vine borers. We've gotten over 20 cucumbers and pickled 7 quarts worth. The watermelon and cantaloupe have started spreading out, so it won't be long. And the cow is now part of the flock
I don't think there is anything that I hate more than spider mites. Didn't know anything about them until last summer. Had a line of 10 emerald green arborvitae in my backyard that I noticed a couple having a weird color to them. Thought fungus, but it was too late once I learned what a spider mite even was. Fought them all summer and lost 3 arborvitae. I have one arborvitae in my front yard, on the corner of my house, my favorite tree that I have. This year, in May (which I thought was early for these fuckers) I was pulling in the driveway and noticed it having a weird color, further investigated and theres tons in there. Been fighting them ever since, think minimally I'm going to have a big hole in it from kill off. Super frustrating too since that tree didn't even get them last year when my entire backyard did, and now this year my backyard is good but I might lose my favorite one in the front yard.
I was having this issue with our lemon tree. I mixed some dish soap with water and sprayed all the leaves. Haven't seen a bug on it in a couple months.
I hit it with some spider mite spray from Home Depot and some soap and neem oil too. Haven't seen any in a couple weeks but I'm worried the damage was already done.
That happened to our tree. It had like 10 leaves on it. It's now in full bloom with lime size lemons on it a couple months later. So don't give up hope. Just give it plenty of water and Miracle Grow.
Loaded up most of the bees and took them to the mountains last night for sourwood honey. Also got our first tomato.
