    Ecobee thermostat
    Ring doorbell
    Rachio sprinkler controller
    Wyze cam on garage door

All integrate well with my phone and Alexa as I need

Might add a wyze cam out back at some point
Only other thing might be a smart door handle, but honestly I don't even have a deadbolt and where I live probably never will, so the spare key in my unlocked garage has been sufficient for any time someone came over when we weren't home

Why do you have Wyze exams Ring? My parents use Wyze for their business and it does seem pretty awesome.
Also, a smart door is awesome. We have the keypad, which I’m not sure makes it smart, but it’s nice to not have to ever take my keys out of my pocket.

As mentioned in a previous post, we're building our hopeful "forever home" currently, and we are meeting with the wiring guys tomorrow who will be putting in our smarthome features. Our house comes standard with separate 1st and 2nd floor hvac, ecobee thermostats, swage smart locks, and the ability to control it through their techconnect elan setup.

Trying to get opinions on must haves (from the building phase) for our house. We start with the thermostats, porch lights, and door locks being controlled through the app. We were thinking about possibly controlling other lights, garage door, and possibly blinds on 2nd story windows in our great room, but at the very least we want to add anything that could be of use in the future. I'm not overly concerned about adding sonos throughout the house since those are easy to add later, but any recommendations for things to add during the building phase would be appreciated.

Wired mesh WiFi systems tend to be the best.
If you are doing ceiling speakers those aren’t sonos. But you can control with Sonos bridges if you wire for it.
Do you have skylights? Wire them for powered shades.
Any heated floors? Wire for it.

With the way our great room is set up, we're definitely going to want speakers in the kitchen that will connect to the TV, so luckily I think that's something as high on my wife's radar as it is mine, since we can do so many other things with those speakers. Our budget went out the window like 70k ago :killme:

They’re just speakers. You have to plug them into a Sonos amp or connect to get them connected to the Sonos system. I think they’re called Sonos architecture

False. They are "True tune" compatible to balance with the rest of the Sonos home theatre. If you have the sonos amp powering non-Sonos built in speakers (like me because my house came with built in ceiling speakers) you can't truly bond the speakers to the rest of the system. All you can do is 'group' the amp/non-sonos to other zones/rooms.

    1. no matter what you need an amp
    2. life hack, plug an active ethernet line into the amp and true play works on any speaker

going through the homebuying process the first time makes me wonder how many people fuck it up. there must constantly be problems with these transactions.

i feel like i have good people, and am on the ball, and have my finances in order and the house is fine, and even with everything going smoothly its still overwhelming.

You can not get the same performance out of your other components (mainly the sub) in a 5.1 set-up by bonding and true-tuning to the sonos amp with non sonos speakers. I've gone through the exercise with Sonos tech support on the phone. (incredibly knowledgeable btw, best customer service experience I've ever had, guy was like an audio engineer). When I bonded and true tuned off of my sonos soundbar, the sub came alive and rattled the windows. When I bonded and true tuned off the amp and non-sonos speakers I thought I'd gotten a lemon, even with an ethernet cable plugged in.

Thanks, I hadn't ever dove deep into that.

That being said, that's got to be an issue that sonos is purposefully doing somehow.

Probably, I can see their side of the argument from a business perspective though. Bad business to enhance a competitor's product and concede market share. Also, just noticed Sonos is giving 20% off to frontline workers. That's impressive. I've been brand loyal to them since becoming a user and appreciate how they walked back the bricking of their shit when the customer based pushed back. Also, SONOS is an ambigram that is impossible to flip upside down, which I think is incredibly clever and makes me want to buy their stuff for that reason alone haha.

here's a good discussion on it.

Yeah, I've been a customer from the beginning. Great product and glad they walked back the bricking issue, however I did get screwed on my original play5 because it's in my office and I use it 6 hours a day. Went ahead and did the 30% off for the move to replace it and then they walked it back. Still a bitter taste in my mouth over that.

That being said, I have an Arc being delivered today

Not sure your budget but the Sonos 1 bundles are the best bang for your buck imo. (And I usually get the gen1 without Alexa compatibility because I never use it and they’re cheaper)

My house is old (not open floor plan) and I put a premium on having seamless audio transition from room to room so I buy those and scatter them throughout the house. The subwoofer is the last thing you purchase when you’re satisfied with the rest of the system, that was my approach.

Quick review ... haven’t watched a good movie yet, just basic TV

The playbar always lacked in dialogue audio. The arc solves that completely.

The arc is a much cleaner audio.

Not sure it’s worth replacing a playbar but if you’re deciding between the two, the arc is way better.

It’s really wide. About 90% of the width of my 65” TV

I have a Beam in the bedroom because it's not a giant room and didn't need to go to crazy in there. I have a Samsung Art TV in the family round over the fireplace. Problem being I don't want to put a soundbar under it because that defeats the purpose of it looking like a painting when it's off. Oh well.
