Honestly how can navarrate not be one of your top 5 favorite fighters right now. 6th right in 9 months. And he brings it every time. Dude just fucks people up too
Could be. He's got to figure out what he's going to do weight wise. At 122, it doesn't seem like Vargas or Roman are super keen on getting in there with him. Now, can he make 122 long enough for someone like Inoue to come up from bantamweight and make a monster fight, no pun intended? Maybe, but probably can't wait that long. Seems like a move to 126 happens sooner than later though, and there's plenty of options there. Does Shakur want it before he moves to 130? Frampton would be fun, so would Jesse Magdaleno. I think he'll get some fights, but he has to decide where.
June 23: Las Vegas (ESPN and ESPN Deportes) Title fight: Andrew Moloney vs. Joshua Franco, 12 rounds, for Maloney's "regular" WBA junior bantamweight title Christopher Diaz vs. Jason Sanchez, 10 rounds, featherweights Joseph Adorno vs. Alexis del Bosque, 8 rounds, lightweights Rolando Vargas vs. Miguel Contreras, 6 rounds, junior welterweights Adam Stewart vs. Helaman Olguin, 6 rounds, heavyweights
Card starting now. ESPN, 8:00 pm ET, Andrew Moloney vs Joshua Franco, Christopher Diaz vs Jason Sanchez. This is a “world title fight” — Moloney holds the WBA’s “world” title at 115 pounds, a distinction he was elevated to after Roman Gonzalez beat Kal Yafai and the WBA decided Gonzalez was worthy of “super world” status, even though Yafai had never gotten that designation. Ah well! At any rate Moloney’s a good fighter, though he had his struggles last time out with Elton Dharry. Franco is a scrapper best-known for his trilogy with Oscar Negrete. He can fight, but he hasn’t really looked world class. Diaz-Sanchez is a nice co-feature for the show, a couple of guys really trying to make a mark at 126.
Threw a little cash on Franco just to keep my interest. Some industry boxing folks like him a good bit.
Mine didn’t either for the outright, had to do the roundabout and throw some on a decision and some on a KO.
June 25: Las Vegas (ESPN and ESPN Deportes) Jason Moloney vs. Leonardo Baez, 10 rounds, bantamweights Avery Sparrow vs. Abraham Nova, 10 rounds, junior lightweights Luis Porozo vs. Orlando Gonzalez, 8 rounds, featherweight Kingsley Ibeh vs. Waldo Cortes Acosta, 6 rounds, heavyweights Clay Burns vs. Reymond Yanong, 6 rounds, welterweights Benjamin Whitaker vs. Vlad Panin, 6 rounds, welterweights
Starts in 5 minutes. ESPN, 8:00 pm ET, Jason Moloney vs Leonardo Baez, Abraham Nova vs Avery Sparrow. The second Moloney twin up this week is the one who’s lost a fight, but it was a world title bout against Emmanuel Rodriguez in the WBSS bantamweight tournament, and it was a very close fight. Like his brother, he’s a legitimate contender. Baez is short-notice, replacing Oscar Negrete, but he can fight a little, and has three straight decent wins, including an upset about a year ago over former Olympian Alberto Melian. Another solid co-feature on this show, as Nova, a 130-pound prospect, takes a lightweight bout against Avery Sparrow, a crafty young Philly guy who was lined up to fight Ryan Garcia last year before getting arrested.
Not planning on it. I think Baez is a pretty live dog, but Jason is better than his brother and Baez is fighting on like 10 days notice.
