If we landed at 4, how much would it take for us to move up a spot or two into the top 3 to take one of those forwards? Aren't we in a situation where it makes sense for us to start considering moving some of the guys we've drafted in recent years and/or extra picks in rounds 2 or 3 in order to take a better player at the top? Or is the price to move up too much? I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to the value of NHL picks so I'm curious.
I don’t think it’s as clear cut as you all think. I’ve seen Stutzle as low as 5-6 some places although McKenzie is as linked in as anyone and has him 2. Byfield was damn close to 1B before the Worlds. Now some scouts don’t have him in top 3. I also don’t think for one minute that depending on who lands in the lottery that some team won’t prioritize D and take Drysdale
I think you are putting too much stock into McKenzie There are 8 prospect listings linked to players elite prospects page Stutzle is #2 in 4 of them, #3 in 2 of them and #1 European Skater in another. Elite Prospects .com somehow has him #8 Byfield is #2 in 4 of them, #3 in 3 of them and 4th in the last So there is a pretty clear top 3 to me when 7/8 publications have same people in top 3
I put a lot more stock in the way McKenzie does his rankings than most publications. It’s less of who are the best 100 players 1-100 and more about various scouting opinions mixed with what’s hearing around the league plus his own eye. I personally think it’s a fairly cut and dry top 3 but I don’t think teams will be quite in line with that.
I think Stutzle could end up better than anyone in this draft if everything goes right just because he can skate so well. Probably the highest ceiling but the lowest floor. Lafreniere is going to be awesome, and Byfield will be a top 6 C even if he doesn’t become elite. After those three, it’s about team preference. Do you want highly skilled offensive players? Look at Raymond or Perfetti. Elite goal scoring? Holtz. An all around center? Rossi. Smooth skating PMD? Drysdale. All around LHD? Sanderson.
Agreed on all points. I think when 2/3 is a debate like this it’s conceivable that a team at 3 passes on one of them bc they for example think Byfield is a 2nd line C or they don’t think Stutzle can play C in the NHL. I am a Byfield guy so maybe this is all just BS in mind because I feel Stutzle is risky at #2
Byfield being so young makes it very interesting. In the game today though, I lean towards speed over size. I’m good with either guy though. Ditto for Rossi. I think he’s skilled enough to make it work despite his height (I don’t worry about his size mainly because he’s so damn stocky)
I feel Byfield is more risky. Dominating kids when youre 6-5 220 is easy, weve seen before. Elite skating is elite skating. And the production he put up against men (and seasoned NHL vets) is impressive to say the least.
I don’t see it that way but understand your point. His size can lead you to that question but he’s so damn young and by all accounts isn’t someone that relied on bullying people. I don’t have the list in front of me but his point production in the OHL compares favorably to the top elite scorers to come out of the league in the last ten or so years. His floor is a 2C. The skating and size will take him that far. If he puts it together he’s a dominant 1C. I won’t be upset with either if we are 2 or 3
Random story… I ran into a buddy of mine not long ago who is now a scout with the Islanders and made me think of this. Back in ’04 I played in a men’s league tournament outside of Chicago with him. This now scout played at Lake Superior State with Doug Weight. This was the year of the NHL lockout I believe. Weight, not having anything to do met us in Chicago for the weekend. He brought his gear thinking he might play with us but thought better of it in the end. Anyway, we are at this bar outside of Chicago one night after a game and another team from the tourney rolls in. We end up getting a little scuffle with them. Weight jumps in and grabs one of their guys around the neck to sorta break it up forcefully. At the same time my buddy takes a swing at that dude, completely whiffs and drills Weight right in the side of the face. He does not even flinch. Shit gets calmed down, Weight pays the bar tab for the whole place and makes a joke about what he’s going to tell his wife about the black eye/bruise he’s going to have the next day. Super nice guy. He didn’t know any of the rest of the team. We didn’t pay for anything the whole weekend. I was 21 and had about $200 to my name. I always pulled for him after that.
https://dobberprospects.com/robinson-final-2020-nhl-draft-rankings-june-2020/ This is an interesting list...
https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/nhl-nhlpa-talks-cba-include-escrow-cap-salary-deferral-players/ 81.5 mil cap for the next three years. Red Wings should profit.
Trade our space for assets. We have a ton of cap room this offseason, even after we get our RFA re-signed. And then going forward over those next few years we lose guys like Helm, Nielsen, Glendening, Fil, etc.
Expect nothing, accept whatever Fuck that shit but What a time to be alive! Give me LeFlame or give me apathy
I think they take Stutzle at #2 if they got it. But i can live with both Stutzle and Byfield. I can live with choices at 4 too, but its a step down there
Luckily TV guide only lists it as a 30 minute show, so it'll be less painful than last year which I swear was an hour
