I have no problem trading anyone on this roster. Starting with Larkin. Lets see if Yzerman can really do this rebuild without lottery luck.
Tough to see Ottawa not taking him/Byfield when they have the 5th overall to get almost any of the next group.
What can you really get trading back 3-4 spots? A second round pick? I don’t see that making sense when we already have three of them in the draft. You’d have to do get real creative to make it work
I have to go back and look at a bunch of guys again, I haven't really decided who I like 4th best yet. You would have to guess Drysdale, Perfetti, Raymond or Rossi. I love Askarov, but I still don't think you can take a goalie top 5.
depends with what team, mtl and Ottawa have some interesting first round slots and second rounders too.
Just take the sputnik goalie or hope the German falls. How many more years until the bad deals are off the books?
Daley, Ericsson and Howard this offseason. And Franzen so maybe we can eat another LTIR for a team. Shed Filp next year. Frans not until 2022 and fucking Abby is until 2023
I'm hoping Ottawa falls in love with Drysdale and thinks Rossi is similar to Byfield or Stutzle and they take Drysdale 3 and take other forward at 5.
We are going to need to find a solution in net at some point. Can always find a middling goalie via FA but hardly ever an elite one. Not that you need an elite goalie to win the cup. But while looking at Askarov and his highlights I came across a 2021 prospect that might even be better. Simply dominated the Swedish U20 league as a 16 year old and was the youngest player to ever play in the Swedish elite league and held his own. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/394724/jesper-wallstedt Same hometown as Nicklas Lidstrom
I find it really weird following young Swedish draft picks in their league because it seems like no one ever scores. Especially compared to the video game numbers guys put up in minors over here.
It’s very hard for a young player to earn ice time in the SHL. The league itself is probably the third best league in the world (behind the NHL and AHL) though a few years ago it was also probably behind the KHL.
Grewe is headed to Saginaw by all accounts. If there is a CHL season, the Spirits tip line could be Grewe - Perfetti - R. Suzuki I would go to some games if that happens (with a vaccine of course)
Speaking of Perfetti, it seems like more people think he can be a center at the next level. If Detroit believes that, they need to take him.
Not sure. I think he’s unique because Detroit probably knew he would come over and all parties agreed it was the best move. Ozzy probably made the call to go for it. The kid definitely doesn’t play an SHL style game. Curious how that works for him over here.
That makes more sense. Couldn't imagine why we would give a shit about NHL cap cities. How best to use cap flexibility? Take on short-term bad contracts if good young assets come with them, or strategic long-term free agents (aka future bad contracts)?
Think the NHL in response should allow teams a free contract buyout...or at least let us just buy out abby with no cap ramifications to make up for the lottery fuckery
The current date for the draft appears to be October 6. FA would start basically right after. Season would start 12/1.
I've been so pissed about that lottery result I haven't even done an in depth look at which prospect I'd want now. I'll have to look more but I'd guess I would take Drysdale at this point. D looked awful before last draft, but between Seider, Drysdale, Hronek, McIsaac, Lindstrom, Cholowski, and Tuomisto you would have the potential of a real solid young defensive core to go with Mantha, Larkin, Bertuzzi, Fabbri, Veleno, Rasmussen and Zadina. Problem is forwards are pretty thin after that and some of those guys may end up bottom 6 guys. If I convince myself one of the forwards is elite I'd probably go there, if not I'd take Drysdale. I need to look at the forwards some more. Askarov is the wild card, but don't think you can do it at 4
I am fine with Drysdale, but the idea of Perfetti as a C is growing on me. Plus there could be 5-6 D that go in the top 10 next season. It’s super D heavy. It makes sense to get an impact forward now all things being equal.
I am on the Perfetti train now too. They gotta their first/second line center. They went way off the board with Seider last year. Drysdale is a better prospect than Seider but I can't reconcile going D in the top 6 picks two years in a row when they have a major gap at center still. Top centers are sooo hard to find....contributing D not quite as hard. If they had Couzens or Zegras from last year, you could convince me otherwise probably.
The other issue is taking Drysdale likely means you’re playing a RHD on the left side at some point. It’s easier to put a LHD on the right side than vice versa. It’s not the end of the world but it’s another factor that needs to be considered. Of course, I still don’t doubt that we have interest in Sanderson. It really comes down to if Draper and Yzerman think his offensive surge the second half of last year was a mirage or a true indicator of his ability.
Here is a question for you How would you feel about a deal involving Hronek for Brock Boeser? I would probably pass, since Boeser is on a bridge deal already and I think his reputation proceeds him at this point. Of course with that said, Boeser is already a consistent 25 goal scorer and will eventually probably be a consistent 30 goal guy. You also allow yourself to take Drysdale, but if you did take a center, you could theoretically have your top six for the next five years: Bertuzzi - Larkin - Boeser Zadina - Perfetti/Rossi/Stutzle - Mantha Even so, I pass, but Hronek is probably exactly what Vancouver wants in any deal for Boeser.
Can’t see the Sens taking a D at 3. LA loves Stutzle apparently and Sens would take Byfield in a heartbeat. #1 C is their biggest need so not taking one at 3 is not really an option. Also heard the Sens are very high on Sanderson. Would rather take Raymond/Rossi at 5 but I will not surprise me to see Sanderson taken there too.
So with the cap staying flat for several years, it does impact what I would offer our RFA: Mantha: 8 years, 60 mil (7.5 AAV) Bertuzzi: 6 years, 28.5 mil (4.75 AAV) Fabbri: 2 years, 6 mil (3 AAV)
