Because Briggs worded it in such a way that many readers got the idea the epidemiologist: 1) was rude to Briggs; 2) didn’t have a real answer so there must actually be nothing wrong with just letting Covid run through the teams; 3) missed a chance to educate readers. I suppose his tweet resulted in a few people like me clicking his link, so there’s that.
Yeah I didn’t read it that way at all. it seemed clear to me that the epidemiologist was responding to the idea that we should just let the virus run rampant and (wanting to understand exactly what he said) I clicked on the link and read the article.
My first thought was that Briggs must be really pushing for sports to open up because he made that epidemiologist look like an asshole.
I think you’re completely misreading the tweet. I took it as that is the message from the epidemiologist to people who are reopen no matter what
Just saying it can be interpreted differently than that, which makes it horrible imo. Based on the tweet’s comments there are a mix of interpretations.
This feels like a blue dress/gold dress situation. Bc I cannot wrap around interpreting the tweet in any other way. That said, not worth arguing about at all. The message in the end is “fuck you if you say just let the virus run rampant through colleges”
I completely agree, and in my original reply I meant no offense to you at all. I’m glad you posted the tweet, because it motivated me to read the entire article. The explanation offered by the epidemiologist is excellent and I will use his points in my arguments with the truthers.
I didn’t get any of those impressions. My impression was that he was saying “fuck you” to anyone who thought that was a viable strategy.
The Florida/Texas/Arizona spiral to the bottom would almost be funny if it wasn’t costing lives. Brian Kemp has to be relieved that he’s been overtaken in utter stupidity. What is hilarious is how terribly this has aged: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nb...ing-2020-season-arizona-texas-and-florida?amp
Hows he been overtaken? Georgia is still worse off than Texas, Cali, Florida, etc. Just barely better than Arizona. Maybe the news cycle has shifted away but they are still doing awful overall and rn.
Texas is basically in hospitalization 9/11, Arizona has a higher rate of infection than NYC at its peak and Brazil and Florida is on the precipice of 10k new infections per day. Kemp is terrible, but he has a tripod of states holding his beer.
I don’t think we will see college football, mlb, nfl, nba nothing WRT to college football, the people I feel sorry for are actual college students who aren’t going to be able to be on campus for at least a semester but probably longer. That really sucks
All we had to do was stay inside and sports could have happened. All the fucking European soccer leagues are back. We are such morons if sports get canceled, Biden should run ads saying Trump’s refusal to embrace masks and testing robbed us of sports
Why would CFB players risk their lives to make others $? They have no reason, besides threats that they won't be recruited/drafted by the professional organizations or kicked out of school.
Well thats probably a fear for a lot of them. If i was a cfb player with what i know at 30 id say fuck you. But at 19 i would probably just have done what the coach told me was best for me.
Yep. They’re afraid if they don’t play they won’t get a shot at the pros or won’t be able to stay on scholarship to get their degree. And most coaches aren’t going to do anything to reassure them. They don’t fully realize their value in many ways because they’re young.
