Such a mistake. Montreal re-opened this week and half the restaurants/bars are taking it seriously, but the other half isn’t. Walked in/out of a bar with about 50 people inside and not a mask in sight, employees included. It’s gonna get ugly in a month.
time for states to really come down hard on violators from a NYTimes article on CA's luck controlling things running out, especially in SoCal: State Senator Richard Pan, a Sacramento physician who led the state’s push to tighten immunization requirements, said that the state might have flattened its curve at first, but that it never bent it down toward zero. “How this disease spreads is all about the margins,” Dr. Pan said. “All it takes is, like, 5 percent more people doing more high-risk behavior to change its direction.” Dr. Pan blames partisanship and misinformation spread by President Trump. On the weekend after June 20, when bars reopened in Los Angeles County, an estimated 500,000 people visited nightspots. Additionally, half of the restaurants visited by county inspectors are not complying with new public health rules, according to health officials. “I’m frustrated because it’s not that we don’t know what to do,” Dr. Pan said. “We know what to do. We’re just not doing it.” https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/29/us/california-coronavirus-reopening.html
Just took a look at CA's numbers for the day. 7100 cases, 6000 of which are SoCal. Suburban Ventura County (404) had almost as many cases as SF, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, and Contra Costa Counties combined (460) - that's pretty much the entire Bay Area. For purposes of comparison, Ventura County has 850k population, and the five Bay Area counties listed have a total of 6.35 million.
Santa Clara county which has over 2 million people only saw a minimal increase in hospitalizations because people are seeking treatment there from other areas due to their experience treating COVID and capacity and it was still a minimal uptick
Sadly this right here is gonna help it spread as far as it can. One county shuts down, residents from said county don’t like it so they migrate to neighboring county with less restrictions so they can do whatever they want. There is no mechanism in place to prevent it, nor will there be. We are fucked.
I haven't been to the beach lately It's well understood here that the locals have been resisting this ordinance since it was issued
SoCal is in trouble. My wife and two neighbors are all nurses. They mentioned how San Diego is now seeing a number of folks seeking treatment from AZ and other more rural SoCal counties. Additionally, the proportion of young people getting sick has shifted drastically. The ER queue at their hospital today was ~50%+ of people under 35. Hell, I have a different neighbor two doors down letting his college son throw a beer rager in his backyard right now (I can hear them) - of course not a mask in sight. Kids just being stupid but their parents being even dumber by allowing it to happen. Worst of all, the dad is a smoker. If he gets it, it won't be "no worse than a cold" as he claims. Ugh. This is why we can't have nice things.
wonder if it has to do with the amount of viral load. like the young drs in Italy and china that died from treating so many sick patients also one of the worst things we did was tell young people that they wouldnt even feel sick if they got it
Nothing like spreading a virus during a pandemic because you want to be a bitch because you weren't included on planning. Maybe tell them the beach goers are protesters so they will forcefully remove them.
Trying to get the word to Trump I see. Media flash forward to August: Trump reversing course and saying people should wear masks in July is the type of leadership we've been waiting for...
LA County sheriff says he won't enforce beach closures this weekend? Lol jfc SoCal destroying all the good that came from the stay at home orders across most the state
Missouri is such a trash ass state, and I say that as a person from Missouri. Kansas City Mayor Called Racist Slur After Declaring Face Masks Mandatory https://www.huffpost.com/entry/quinton-lucas-kansas-city-racist-slur_n_5efa6f02c5b612083c51b22a
https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/european-union-travel-list-1.5632422 Looks like this may become mandatory in the province.
i keep seeing states like illinois opening gyms and indoor dining and shit it’s almost like they’re not paying attention at all
Gonna close down completely this weekend. Might make that more permanent and move to delivery only. Be nice if our landlord would work with us and turn off rent so we can just take the revenue loss and not die.
took longer than I thought but a community full of olds who watch Fox News all day was bound to get lit the fuck up
Did anyone think that only 20-30 year olds getting this would persist and it wouldn't reach older demographics? Seriously?
i feel like the fox crew thought that for some reason gonna be a disaster here and in fl once all the olds get it too
Never made sense to me that we would cordon off a large portion of the population from this, especially when the white ones are more likely to think this is a hoax and not wear masks
Florida is doing a pathetic amount of tests. 35,000 tests A day in a state of over 21 million people. Cases can’t increase in a big way when testing goes down. If testing is even equal to last week and there is a data dump later this week there is going to be a giant number one of the next 2 or 3 days. If there isn’t, we need to know why Florida is testing less than last week.
The old people taking it seriously and sheltering/staying at home are at lower risk of getting it. Old people not taking it seriously and not wearing masks were going to be fucked no matter what.
