They don’t get it. They’ve had the worst site in the industry forever and they refuse to do anything about it. I don’t understand their position on this. It’s a requirement in modern e-commerce.
Well....fuck Vulcan. Fuck Rep Fitness earlier this week. Fuck Rogue for apparently not having anything or never sending out In Stock emails. Just bought a bunch of bumpers from Fringe Sports. Hopefully I can find some used 45s somewhere to fill the rest out
Need some advice on low bar squats. I’ve got limited mobility with external shoulder rotation on my left shoulder. Not sure why, maybe from a hairline collarbone fracture in HS? Only thing I can figure. Anyway, when I do low bar squats, I have to really cup/extend my wrists in order to get my hands on the bar, I’m assuming due to shoulder mobility. I can make it work, but I’m concerned that it’s gonna strain my wrists as the weight gets heavy. Should I stick with it or switch to high bar squats? Advice?
Yes. Like I’m bending the back of my hand back instead of having a flat wrist. Keeping a flat wrist seems impossible because I can’t get my arms/shoulders far enough behind me so I have to compensate with bending my wrist back to get around the bar. Hopefully that makes sense.
Yea so that’s totally fine. You’re going to have to get your wrists cocked back to drive your elbows under the bar to create a tighter back. Here’s a pic of my wrists you can kinda see mine are back and I’m trying to drive my arms underneath the bar. A lot of people squat like this without pain. Using wrist wraps helps, but it still necessary. Watch how Yury Belkin uses his arms here here’s a video my coach dropped today about this subject
Have you tried adjusting the grip width? It probably is just mobility. Get a broomstick and do some shoulder dislocations and other exercises that help with that. I had some initial pain when I first tried low bar as well. Also, hard to tell from pic, but are you resting the bar on your fingers or the bone of your wrist? Your fingers should not be feeling the weight. Pull the bar into your upper back and try to keep elbows in line with torso throughout the motion. You may be squatting too upright for low bar and feeling like you have to grip the bar to keep it on your back. Your upper back should be holding it in place and hands simply there for balance.
That’s super helpful, thanks! Rippetoe was talking about a flat wrist a lot in a tutorial video I watched and I’m a rookie still, so glad to know what I’m doing is ok. I definitely prefer the feel of low bar squats over high bar, so that’s a relief!
Yeah the pic isn’t great, was relying on a nine year old to take it haha. I was just holding an empty bar here for the picture, so it probably looks more upright than I am with a loaded bar. I don’t feel like I’m gripping it with my fingers, hands are just kinda resting there, but the wrists do feel a bit extended. It doesn’t hurt, but I didn’t want to set myself up for a problem later. Good tip on the shoulder dislocations. Might warm up with those next time to see if it helps.
Another one you can do anywhere is hold your arms straight out against a wall with your palm facing the wall and fingers pointing down and gently push as much as you can. After a few weeks of this your wrists should be very flexible and your whole hand should be able to touch the wall.
Rippetoe is fine for getting started in strength training, but past the beginner stage he’s pretty wrong on a lot of stuff. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have them.
Who's gonna tell him? Ok, Cap got it. I view Rip like I do Crossfit. Neither is going to optimize you for anything, but both give people a starting point and get people under a barbell. So they can serve a purpose.
I need to start lifting again, fuck my shoulder. Been doing 2 hours a day of bike while watching glorious soccer and feeling lean but kinda sucks.
Got my first real lift in on Wednesday since March. Walking up stairs, or walking in general was painful after that session. Gym allows only 10 people at a time in the space, suited for 50-100. 8 people on cardio machines meant I had all the weights to myself.
anyone ever had capillaries burst on the top of their hands? I started pushing my weights up for RDL's and barbell shrugs, so I am using straps, and after my workout my hands looked poka-dot.
The only time I’ve seen burst capillaries go wrong is my buddy taped his ring finger while wearing a ring. All that pressure fucked his finger up.
I’m playing around with changing my rest intervals between sets. I have historically been going with like 2 minutes but it’s making my current workouts take forever. They’re usually 1.5-2 hours. Thinking about dropping it down to 1 minute. I did it yesterday and I dropped my workout to 1 hour 15 minutes. I wasn’t able to lift as heavy/as many reps though.
I like the powerbuilding method when I'm pushing it hard. Rest as much as you need for main lift or lifts, sometimes I take 45+ minutes to just get through squats or deadlifts. Accessories don't need much rest and feel no need to just sit around.
costochondritis was a bitch for me for a long time, foam roller on my back and sleeping on my back really cleared it up for me
Squat, bench, and deadlift all went well today. I’m feeling the momentum and that competition fire coming back. May be the last week of the block next week depending on how I feel. May turn it loose a bit
New garage gym coming! Went under contract today. Garage is an awesome size. Tax assessor reports 529 but mls shows 612. Either way feels huge. I have 450 now. Also gaining around 1,600 SF in the house compared our current house, which we are badly outgrowing. Who wants to come help me move all this equipment??
In a 2020 strange turn of events I’m struggling to gain weight back up to low 230s. New macros are 225/425/70 on training days and 225/150/109 on rest days. I’m gonna hit the 500g carb mark in a month or so
Capstone 88 Think other meets are gonna get cancelled? I'm supposed to do one in Mississippi in September...
I don’t know if all of them will but I think most will. Or at least be held to a small number of people. Ours in August just got cancelled
Get his mostly on Instagram, have a different hip circle and his slingshot so doesn’t entice me at all
hensleya or anyone else have this curl bar? I got a titan one but it is a piece of shit. Rogue’s is $200 and sold out.

Not really, but it does make a difference in garage gyms or otherwise humid spaces. And it definitely feels better.
I ordered this a month ago. Got a shipment notification last week it would be delivered and it still hasn’t shown up
