This has me dying because in 2.5 years of marriage, my wife has prepared two meals for me. Stuffed shells and boxed mac and cheese. Once each. I have to cook everything lol

So you're a chef and a som? Now I have to come up with an evil master plan to slide into her place.

I was inspired by this thread to open my last Evening Land that I bought cheaply because they changed the label.

Planning out our return trip to Napa. Spending two nights in Healdsburg to start off the trip followed by 6 in Napa. Current wineries on deck:

    Pride
    Hall St. Helena
    Jarvis
    Kenzo
    B Cellars

    Last trip we did:

    Spring Mountain Vineyards
    Caymus
    Cakebread
    Domaine Carneros
    V. Sattui
    Frog's Leap
    Schweiger
    Viader

Any recommendations? We're doing the touristy wine train one day and they're stopping at Mondavi/Krug/V. Sattui. Just care about good wines really unless the tour is exceptional. Was it B Cellars that someone mentioned could hook up a 3 pack of To Kalon wines? Would love to know if they're still doing that.

Pride is an awesome tour AND great wines. Great choice.
I'd recommend Boich Family Cellars. Great view/tasting room. Amazing wines. And yes, they have a To Kalon they just released.

Is there a vice that you don't know tons about? Not asking in a negative manner, more so a "I want to go to there" Liz Lemon manner.

My favorite that we own is the Reidel brand one sold at Target. Reasonable price and easier to clean than my others.

Pride is awesome. We rolled in with no reservation on my buddy’s wedding day (wouldn’t suggest that) and lucked into the first employee we saw being from Alabama. We didn’t get a tour, but she poured us everything that she could open.

Reverie is free and has great wines and a really cool vibe. Mending Wall is excellent.

With 6 days, it’s worth doing a blending or making class. Lady Tegg and I did a blending class at St. Supery that was a surprisingly good time. We did a normal tasting while they bottled our blends.

Couple bottles of 2014 Bob Foley Cab tonight. Very good. Seems like his bottles always have a decent amount of sediment.

Any recommendations for "getting into wine." Looking for ways to read about it and understand it more.

I've been into craft beer since I turned 21 a decade ago and have a pretty good appreciation for it. I understand the styles, variation in ingredients, and done the brewing process on a very small scale.

I like wine but it just seems so much more vast in being able to understand it in a meaningful way. Trying to move from "oh, this is good" to "oh, why is this good?" My wife and I are planning to settle down soon and our travel is likely going to be long weekends for the foreseeable future and we basically have the entire west coast within reach from PHX. So going to Napa, the Willamette Valley, etc. will be easy trips.

My Target Reidel decanter fell and broke while I was drying it last night. Apparently they aren’t making that line for Target any longer which is a shame because it was a great decanter for $25. I have 3 other decanters but that was by far my favorite because it’s easiest to clean.

For what it’s worth whole cluster is made to drink immediately while the Tristateum is made to cellar for a while. What this tells me is you like big fruit in your Pinots, let me think if I can send some reasonable recommends your way.

That was my plan with the Tri but I drank the two cheapest Pinots I had tonight. me buying a 20 bottle fridge has done not much for cellaring minus the Chateau de Pressac I bought 3 bottles of and 50-100 dollar cabs I bought but not have a steak to cook them with

2 really fun wines. Wife and I opened both last night. Drinking the white Occhipinti now after a 5 mile run - so satisfying. Rest will be finished with the Vietnamese we just ordered.

I think clubs like that can serve as decent enough introductions to the world of wine. I don't appreciate the shady marketing that most of these companies do--namely most of them not acknowledging that their wines are all made by one or two people in the same facility then rebranded--but if they're transparent about that and it's ok with the consumer, more power to them.

Yup, we're gonna do it on Wednesdays or Thursdays this month with Teutonic, from Portland. They're completely off the reservation and the wines are really delicious.

Yeah, this winery has less states that they're licensed to sell DTC to. Next month is Sashi Moorman and Raj Parr so, you won't want to miss that and they ship fucking everywhere.

Dale Doback my company hosts tastings/webinars with our wineries each month. One night a week, for three weeks, we taste a wine from the pack and deep dive into the wine, vineyards, cellar, etc. with the winemakers.
