When I was in high school (Deep South) the entirety vibe down here was No Limit/Cash Money/triple six. Basically it was me and my homie who listened to shit like Kast, Nas, Wu, Jay Z etc. JR year spring break we packed a suburban for a beach trip and I had to listen to No Limit for an hour before I begged to throw in my SPCM disc. Everyone in my buddy’s moms blue Suburban wasn’t hearing shit but Outkast all spring break after that. I like to believe that I single handily brought Big and Stacks to the musical forefront at Satsuma High School from 98 and into the new millennium.
Thought the new Gunn was kind of boring on first listen with a good bit of filler, but just getting on the Stove God Cooks...his album was produced by Roc Marci. I didn't really know what to expect, but it's a very pleasant surprise. The production is unsurprisingly outstanding as well
Pretty sure Marci has produced most if not all of his own music through his career. I think I honestly prefer him as a producer. I know he gets tons of UG love as a rapper/lyricist but his voice/delivery for me a lot of the time is a snooze
The one positive I can give Eternal Atake is this: I was impressed that Uzi and his producer were able to create a good beat sampled around music from Full Tilt Pinball. That beat on You Better Move is actually pretty hard. That said, that is the only song on that album I would even think about returning to. But I get that it's not made for me. Would assume Lulu didn't get enough reviews, either. Might be a hot take, but if I was choosing between Alchemist projects, I'd take Lulu over Alfredo, though Alfredo deserves to be in the top 5 as well.
Dude I absolutely adore LuLu and I don’t know if there’s a song on Alfredo that’s as good as shoot sideways. That beat is so menacing and Schoolboy Q on the hook is like jaws in the water. Solid tracks top to bottom. I’m not mad at that take at all. Conway is coming into is own as a rapper and I love it. I’d still take Alfredo.... but I’m not mad at it
yeah he has, just haven't seen him do a lot for other artists. Marcberg has turned out to be a super influential album for this recent sound coming out of NY especially Griselda
Yeah I respect the fuck outta Roc and like a fair amount of his projects but he tends to lean twords Coke rap MF DOOM with his complexity and delivers it with a quiet and monotone quality that makes it hard to catch what he’s dishing. now that I’ve heard cooks I REALLY wish he took Marcis verse on $500 ounces. That song grinds to a halt when Roc takes over
Shoot Sideways into Calvin might be my favorite back to back tracks of any project this year. It's either that or the Walking in the Snow and Ju$t tandem from RTJ4.
Won't spoil it, but this is my favorite song from my favorite project last year. "The judge'll give you life and later that day, he gon' be playin' golf"
Enjoying the Pop Smoke album so far. He had a generational rap voice. It’s crazy how many of the popular up-and-comers have died so young recently. Pop Smoke, Juice Wrld, XXXTentacion, and Lil Peep all dead before age 22.
It's really unfortunate he passed. He was doing a fantastic job transitioning UK drill rap into America
I’ll be honest I thought fgwaag2 was buns and it comes across like WSG is tryna sell hoodies with it. That Virgil print didn’t pan out I guess
Drake fan here. Dude fucked up by not responding. And now he is backed in a corner where Pusha can just tee off. Miscalculation on Drakes part.
Oh for sure, Drake is pretty much at lose lose with this. It’s just funny how the vocal fans of his are about Push, mainly because they don’t know anything about him. Damn we need more push music.
He’d be alright if he just handled the Pusha question in interviews with “no comment, not gonna give him any press” instead, he takes shots and Push isn’t gonna stand by while he does.
There’s been rumors floating for months that Push is workin with Madlib. If Palmolive is any indication of how that would go we are gonna get something special
Had a message from OutKast via Spotify in my email this AM. got excited. But it ended up just being a plea to sign a petition to alert the federal government to the need for aid for independent music venues.
I’ll go a while without listening to Isaiah Rashad and then I just dive in. Suns Tirade is easily one of my favorite albums ever. this fuckin song is the kind of shit that I just live for.
You're right. Ab-soul's career seemed to have hit a screeching halt. It's basically Kendrick and Schoolboy and I feel like Schoolboy should be doing better as well
